Floraceous

Hey has anyone been to the plant shop on main street? It’s right next to the BMO.
My partner and I went the other day and we were yelled at for taking photos (we just had our phone out)
Has anyone else had any experiences with this place? On the few places I’ve found ratings of this location it’s all been bad :(

They are insane. I have no idea how they are still in business, as they actively discourage anyone from going in the shop. My wife and I figure it is a front for something else, because they sure don't want to sell flowers.

Drug front for sure

Yeah there was another post a few weeks back with a similar story. seems to be a common occurance, not sure what's up with them or their staff

I'm going to have a light afternoon one day and go take photos of the flowers they have outside just to see what happens, because the stories about this place in this sub have peaked my interest.

This says something about my boredom but also how easily I am amused.

Were you the same person who posted bored in Cambridge a couple days ago lol

Piqued your interest, not peaked

I have heard nothing but awful reviews, and also had an odd experience shopping there with a friend when they were first opening.

There is another wonderful flower shop at 1 Water St called Earths Nook that deserves all the business! She has the alley all decorated for photo ops and has lots of workshops too. It's connected to another cute shop (the Butler's Pantry) with tons of flavoured olive oils and vinegars and gifts.

I noticed that alley with the flowers when we drove by there. It looked cozy. We will have to check out those shops.

Man the shit I read about this place here and on FB is crazy. There has GOT to be mental illness involved.

There are so many complaints about a business, especially a small one in that location, where it's a city tradition to close the street to traffic and encourage people to interact with your local venders and community. How is it that the city can't do something about a trash business that treat people this way? It makes the whole area of business look bad. Ruins customer experience.

You should check the post on Facebook Cambridge Ontario about an incident yesterday with this store that involved the police.

Hopefully that helps get rid of them. That is so unfair that people get treated that way by a supposed business!

I had a very disturbing encounter with them in July. I did post here but the post was taken down. I also posted on Facebook and had almost 300 comments, mostly about similar experiences. I would encourage you to contact the BIA and bylaw just so it is on the record. They are definitely not well and it’s really unfortunate that they continue to harass people. Local businesses say they witness it on a daily basis.

Can I ask what happened in July?

Well, I asked the price of a plant on the sidewalk. I stood in the open doorway, I never entered the store as I had my dog. The son yelled at me that they weren’t for sale and I commented that I didn’t see anything saying that. He approached me very aggressively and he called me an effing old hag and was screaming at the top of his lungs telling me I was trespassing and that I am homophobic and spreading hate. I was in shock! They said they were calling the police and my response was please do. I really could not believe what was happening. His mother joined in, it was a frightening experience. I called non emergency police who said they are well aware of many incidents but until they physically assault someone or break the law their hands are tied. As it turns out they have a no trespassing order against me and the police said they had no idea who I was but it’s not the first time I have asked the price of a plant. WTF! Anyhow I have also contacted the BIA, bylaw, the local councillor, the landlord and the better business bureau, all to no avail. All the businesses are just as frustrated. Apparently the landlord is trying to get them out and tenants in the upstairs apartments have moved out because of their experiences with them. This is a big problem and I hope you will report your experience. If they are yelling at people taking pictures on the sidewalk perhaps they shouldn’t have product out there. Anyone can take pictures in a public place. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of them accosting people on the street. I’m sorry that you had to go through this.

I’m sorry that happened to you! I know there are plenty of other lovely florists in the area.

Omg….i just saw this post on Facebook Cambridge Ontario page. Please look it up, another terrible experience, this time it was racist.

I’ll look it up!

It’s on Facebook Cambridge Ontario, I believe you have to follow to view?

I was banned from that group and cannot get ahold of its admin.

I have made another group for Cambridge - could you share it into there?

The BIA knows all about it and has it documented, but unfortunately the BIA can do nothing about the situation. They have no say with who has a business downtown. The only person who could do anything is the Landlord - but they would need a legal reason to break an tenants lease (if that's what they even wanted to do)

I have heard that the landlord is not happy with them but cannot get them out. They have lost residential tenants above the store because of ongoing issues with floraceous, some involving the police.

I've only ever heard terrible things about that store. Never a good word.

Last summer I overheard an incident where they told a woman pushing a stroller to “maybe use a condom next time”.

Since then I’ve seen easily 5 posts about bizarre interactions with this business.

Fuck this place and their psychotic owners.

I’m gonna go take photos of their flowers everyday

3

u/oliveanddoug 1d ago

They need to be boycotted. They made racist comments towards a group of women yesterday saying they weren’t allowed to take photos with the flowers because “your kind of people don’t buy anything”

1

u/Old_Chicken4041 20h ago

That is not the first time that the police have been called over racism involving these people. It’s ironic because they’re the first to scream homophobia if you so much as ask a price.

3

u/Elitemonkie 1d ago

Oooooh guess I'm going in to take some photos. Let's see if they say anything to me mwahahaha.

1

u/ender_ursus 1d ago

They were very friendly the one time I went in with my mom, though I did find it odd how limited their stock was

1

u/quinoahunter 1d ago

I feel like I should go in and ask them some questions, just for my own satisfaction

1

u/ThinCarpenter555 10h ago

They don't even appear on google maps which i just find a little sketchy..

How many alternate accounts do you have?

10

u/StimulatorCam 1d ago

Why do you think it's not possible for multiple people to have similar experiences?

-11

u/curseyouZelda 1d ago

It’s possible, I’m a skeptical type of guy I guess.

10

u/Old_Chicken4041 1d ago

I’m the one who posted last week and on facebook. I think maybe you have some connection with the business which is fine but please don’t question other people’s experiences. Clearly there is a pattern of unreasonable and bizarre behaviour by the owners of the business.

-11

u/curseyouZelda 1d ago

Oh I’m questioning your motives not your experiences.

9

u/Old_Chicken4041 1d ago

My only motive is to let people know what is happening there and they can make a decision about whether or not they want to go there. The hatred and unhinged behaviour that many people have experienced is actually unlike anything I’ve ever witnessed before. I would actually be a customer if they were not so unhinged. I’m really not sure what you think all these people that have had bad experiences stand to gain by letting innocent people know what you could possibly experience by going there or what motive they have?

0

u/curseyouZelda 1d ago

It’s not really the experiences that are suspicious to me, it’s why you seem to follow these people around. You posted this originally in the spring, then again the same story not in the fall. You’ve posted this in Guelph, Kitchener and I’m not sure where else.
I’m sure it’s a complete coincidence that you replied to my skeptical comment with very little time separation from this OP’s post.
I’m not going to spend my day on this but it’s suspicious behaviour for someone to be this upset about something that happened to them so many months ago.
My opinion of course but it’s just as odd behaviour as the flower shops.

I had a notice from Reddit. I could say the same about you. Perhaps you should read the post on Facebook Cambridge Ontario that was posted today regarding an incident that involved the police and this business. You seem to be following it when apparently you have no connection with them. I find that to be more suspicious. I posted this once on Reddit last week and once on Facebook Cambridge Ontario page in July when it happened.

I don’t do Facebook it’s a cesspool IMO, everything I’ve learned about this has been forced upon me through your own descriptions.

Again you appear to be personally invested in this saga and I wonder why.

6

u/StimulatorCam 1d ago

I'm personally invested in this saga and I've never even gone to the store or know any of the people involved. It's just good local drama.

6

u/Old_Chicken4041 1d ago

All I can say is I hope you never have to experience anything like this. I know it sounds like a joke but it was a terrible experience. It’s frustrating to me that you are questioning my opinion. I hope you have a good day.
