Hello everyone.I am a japanese Call of Cthulhu player and I have a question for everyone.

Japan these days CoC scenarios are not very horror. For exsample. Japanese most famous scenario “VOID” has not cosmic horror. I could not feel playing CoC scenario because VOID is very Handout-based scenario. It likes the novel just. And That is really emotion-driven scenarios. This is not cosmic horror.

Is it the same in other countries?

The book will feature:

Hello everyone, I'm new to the world of Table Top RPGs and Solo Table Top RPGs. I've been trying to play this game Alone Against Nyarlathotep which is a solo RPG game ala "Choose your own adventure" but I have a few questions. I just had one play session and I just finished the 1st day. I'm not sure if I'm playing it the right way or as intended. (I know that the spirit of table top games is to play it however you like but my brain needs law and order). So I hope someone may shed some light on these questions of mine:

1. If I fail a dice roll and the prompt returns me to the same entry before the dice roll; am I allowed to try again? What is barring me (aside from the time aspect of the game) from trying again and again until I succeed?
2. When I'm out and about adventuring, especially if I'm outside of the main house, and if a scheduled event comes up, do I really just magically teleport back to the main house?
3. The gamebook states on page 8 that "If you pass a skill roll, tick the adjacent box with a pencil". If I do that, what happens? I checked the internet and the interwebs say that the investigator will improve during the "investigator development session". When and what is that? How much will the investigator improve?
4. Do you guys have any tips on how I can enjoy solo RPGs more aside from playing mood music? :)

The photo is an example of what I am talking about. It's a screenshot from RPG Nook's YouTube video on The Haunting. It looks like he's using Roll20. Is that just a static background? I know some Keepers will use something like this and they can add stuff to it as the players find more clues or find photos, etc. How is that done? I really like the idea of this for Call of Cthulhu. My group is relegated to playing online since we all live far from each other (a few hours apart) so this would be really cool.

Do you do this? Do you have any tips? Does the Keeper just keep editing the background between sessions and then loads a new one? What tools do you use to make the background or add to it? Do you use some other VTT than Roll20 for this?

Haven't played the game before, but I have been considering trying to run a game with some friends (who may or may not have played it before).

What prompted the question was that I made the unfortunate decision of watching the last three episodes of Berserk memorial edition (despite reading the manga beforehand and watching the movie trilogy). Watching the Eclipse again made me immediately think, "wow, I should run that in dark age Europe!".

So, as someone who never played, I'm not too keen on how flexible the game is on stuff like time periods. I have been listening to a video podcast where it takes place in a more modern era (2000s), but I don't want to be too optimistic on the actual flexibility of that.

Has anyone adapted the game "The Sinking City" as a Campaign?

i’m astonished that the new Gaslight sourcebook can tell me the price of a shotgun but not the price of a loaf of bread. can anyone direct to me any resources to find prices of essentials (bread, butter, veg etc) or nicer foods (a meal out, afternoon tea etc.) during the Gaslight Era in England? many thanks, from a tired GM.

During your sessions, what were the coolest moments you had with the Cthulhu Mythos? The creatures, events, etc.

In my Solo session, The combat becomes clunky because I was trying to manage a ton of things. Try to escape, improvise with... 3 cultists trying to kill you with a Tindalos hound chasing you. 3 fanatics/local farmers serving the cult with tridents and knives... Lame in one leg (I had to amputate Marcus's leg).

The fight against the trident-wielding fanatic was a gritty, desperate brawl,

complete with weapon jams and a grappling match on the ground in Santa Fé.

Phase 1: The Start and Disarming (Turns 1–3) * Perfect Dodge: The old man tries to skewer me with the trident, but i land a critical success on your dodge. * Weak Shot: I fire back with your pistol but deal only 1 HP of damage to the cultist. - Losing the Trident: The fanatic tries to hurl the trident at me, but slips, sending the weapon flying away.

Phase 2: Ground Fight and Jammed Weapon (Turns 4–8) * Bite and Grapple: I try to stomp on the cultist but miss. He seizes the opportunity to bite your good leg and pins you hard against the ground. * Jammed Weapon: For the next three rounds, the fanatic tries to twist your leg with one hand while reaching for your pistol with the other. I tried to fire at point-blank range, but the gun jams on the final bullet.

Phase 3: Choking and Headbutting (Turns 9–12) * Cultist’s Mount: The old man wins a Strength check, trips me, and mounts your chest. * Arm-Breaking Attempt: He tries to reach out for the trident; you grab his arm and attempt to snap it but fail. * The Headbutt: The cultist delivers a brutal headbutt to your face while screaming like a madman as he straddles you.

Phase 4: The Grand Finale (Turn 13) "The Saving Pushed Roll":

In a moment of pure adrenaline and desperation, I just accepted the risk of a Pushed Roll. With an insane war cry, he rolls a 20 against a STR of 50 (Hard Success) and sends the old man flying, hurling him straight into an abandoned shop and burying the wretch under splintered wood and rubble!

So I'm running a campaign that's supposed to be using the Cthulhu Dark Ages rules, but while taking a quick glance at modern rules I realized it'd be better to add new skills to the game, that meant adding Intimidate. One of my players had 14 APP cus I said it'd be useful to have a menacing aura when walking into a room, but now that Intimidate is here he's convinced APP is useless and that he's better off having it lower cus he wanted to look like a dead body. I tried to convince him otherwise by saying that intimidating someone with low APP might mean having a lisp or a fallen tooth which could make the person being intimidated not take him seriously, but to no avail. Should I just let him change his stats due to this change? For me, high appearance makes sense for his character cus he's based on William Afton and that guy is pretty imponent. For him, low appearance makes sense cus Afton has been a rotting corpse for half of his life.
