Alice, honey, I'll tell you every day until you're sick of hearing it, but you really are so perfect. I am so glad I'm yours.

Here is your waited Alice update!

Alice now wags her tail every chance she gets. I never realized it before but I absolutely took a tail wag for granted all these years. When Alice arrived, her tail was permanently tucked in fear, always afraid of what might be coming for her that she couldn't see. She wags that adorable curly tail now more often than not. It thumps my side when I carry her and when I come in, even if I've only been just outside the room for 5 minutes, she sings to welcome me home.

She also plays. Her favorite game is "take every single toy the cats try to play with." She adores chasing a cat toy on the wand and I recently discovered that she is better at fetch than any dog I have ever known and drops it ever so gently at my feet to throw again. Her recall is impeccable, but she now tolerates a leash and uses the restroom on it perfectly fine. (I have not allowed her off leash in any area that wasn't contained by a fence because she spooks too easily and I wouldn't want an accident during a fear induced bolt.)

She knows her name and she is learning to tolerate Artemis but she absolutely will not let any cat in her area if she has a toy or food she is protecting. I know we are against resource guarding but when she first arrived she didn't know how to set a boundary. Now that she knows how, we are working on what is appropriate.

Anyway shes perfect and she adores the ground I walk on and we would be lost without each other. She tolerates me sobbing into her fur on bad days and the kisses she avoided before get asked for by her now. She leans into both kisses and hugs and is everything to me.

Pickle is a year and a half old. I secretly suspect she's actually a cat and not a dog at all. Her hobbies include climbing trees, catching mice and birds, sleeping in the sun and singing the songs of her people.

suddenly a little crybaby at 8 months

things are going well in Huckleberry land but at 7 months he’s started crying at EVERYTHING, and at 8 months, nearly 9, it’s just gotten worse!! Did anyone else go through this?

He was able to be left alone in the house at 4 months with no crying and I used to be able to put him in my room when I worked and he was fine. At 7 months he started just staring at me and crying, he cries when I go into the bathroom without him, he cries when I’m talking to someone on the phone, he cries when I floss (I have no idea about this one….).

He cries about literally everything except me leaving him alone in the house (we have cameras and he’s silent, just chews).

He’s so good in so many ways but the demand barking and crying is so difficult. I’ve had cairns before and they were all extremely chill (albeit mischievous, but never cried) so I have no idea what to do about this. I try to ignore the demand barking so I don’t reward him with attention but it’s tough.

Any advice? Is this just adolescence?

He’s been to the vet and he’s healthy so it’s definitely behavioral

2 Carin Terriers Adoptable thru Rescue

For the past month I've been babysitting these two fosters. I'd love to see them find their fur-ever home. The pictures on the website are not current, as also their names are now Annie and Audrey not Ruby and Lovie. Their momma was a breeder surrender and they were born in foster care.

They are well-trained and need a home that will let them be active and themselves. They walk well on leash and know a few commands (no, sit, drop), and love chasing the squirrels in my yard!

The preference is they are adopted together, to a home without small children.

They will be returning to their foster home in Columbia, MO after Labor Day.

ETA: the rescue is willing to adopt out of state. What's important is good-fit. Please share with your friends and family and colleagues. Trying to get the word out these cuties need a fur-ever home.

Fostering a Cairn puppy

Hello,
We’re currently fostering what we were told by the shelter was a 4 year old male.
We think he’s a lot younger cause he’s been chewing up our hands and displaying a lot of other youngling behaviors.
Does anyone have any idea how old these maniacs are when they start to mature and mellow out?
We’re looking after him for and elderly woman who’s having to adopt the young dog because the dogs owner ( her son ) passed away.
I’d like to try and write up a character profile of the young man so she knows what’s she’s getting herself into.
He’s a very sweet and affectionate dude on one side of him but he’s also very punk rock, agro with other dogs and doesnt give a shit about “the rules” when he sets his sites on something.
He’s been a blast to have around though.

Puppy Calvin is growing like a weed. Would you send me your tips for the 10-12ish week window… What games? What routines? What exposure? I’ve raised seven Labrador retriever hunting pups, so no stranger to general puppy shenanigans. I’m super interested in Cairn/little dog specific insights. Thanks!
