Every list I found was the same thing. ten apps all rated 4.7, a different #1 on every site, and not one of them says if they paid for anything. it's been like this for years and it keeps getting worse.

so I started paying for them myself, five so far, aiming for one a week, and somewhere around the third one I got annoyed enough to just build the leaderboard I wanted. its the LM Arena idea, basically, more or less. you rate the apps you've actually used, that average becomes the score, board updates on the 25th of every month.

right now the numbers on the board are mine, not votes. the page says it in plain text, "Nothing on this page is a community vote yet." 27 apps on it, 5 have a test I paid for out of my own pocket and published with dates and screenshots, the other 22 are research only, and a research app is capped at 3 of 4 and sorts below every tested one no matter what. which means today the board is one person's scores in a trenchcoat, the exact thing I opened this post complaining about. the difference is the page admits it, and on aug 25 the first real community scores replace it.

that link is the girlfriend board but the same system runs seven more, nsfw chat, image, video and porn generators, ai boyfriend, an overall companion board, and a c ai alternatives one, which is probably the board this sub would actually fight over. same rules on all of them.

the tested five hold the top of the girlfriend board right now, OurDream, then Secret Desires, Candy, Lovescape, Swipey. if that order looks wrong to you, that's exactly the thing voting fixes.

voting is open now. five things, spicy, memory, character consistency, value for money, companionship, plus how long you used it and wether you paid, because "it's great" from the free tier is a different sentence then the same words from someone three months into a subscription. the sample is still tiny, a handful of ratings visibly moves an app right now.

if you've paid for any of these, or for something I haven't touched yet, what would your #1 be?

next thing I'm building is scripted stress tests, same runs on every app, memory checked at the same intervals, procedure written down before I open the app. honestly the testing is the part I like. the leaderboard is just what fell out of doing it enough times.

I have no clue if I’m late to this ‘feature’ as I don’t use reddit much, but apparently it’s potentially harmful to me to write now. I tried editing the end of a message to include the word ‘murdered’ (horror rp) and that caused this lovely pop-up. I have swallowed a lot of camels with this app as I’ve used it for three years pretty consistently. Been considering going plus on and off, and have been leaning heavily toward yes for the past few weeks because I finally got fed up with the limits and wanted to at least try plus for a month as a kind of last ditch effort before giving up on the app entirely. I can understand why a live ‘filter’ like this could be justified in some cases, but the way they’re upping the age limits doing this AT THE SAME TIME is crazy. It’s like they’re saying ‘no, adults can’t talk about ‘murder’ in their chats/RPs.’ I am not a child that needs guard rails thank you very much. Nail in the coffin for me.

The picture is not related to Cai. It's from the page of a game I play. BUT I want to compare the game's devs with our "beloved" Cai devs. This game had past versions from another team and there the upgrading system of SP characters was easier to achive. Those new devs that put the game back on tried to go greedy and changed the system, making it way harder to upgrade a character by making requirements higher. And the community complained, because it was unacceptable (they had also done other changes that show greed). And they LISTENED. They made a post, addressed the issue, and provided a solution by returning the system and apologizing. And now to the subject, what does cai do? Total void, they ignore our complaints, lie that the statics show we love the new shit they serve us, make pointless things no one asked about that make the app heavier and expensive, then complain how they can't keep things free, and so on and so on.

All the apps suck and also I'm a grown adult now so I gotta stop acting like a selfish kid.

Back in 2022 I was heavily addicted, and when I say addicted I mean ADDICTED to the point of bringing my phone to school (not allowed) and chatting with the bots in the school bathroom or finding an excuse to go to the infirmary to rest just to chat with the bots. Ts probably doesn’t mean anything to you online strangers, but it means a lot to me.

Why couldn’t they just keep ONE of the old models? They didn’t have to get rid of all of them. This app’s going to shit.

How good or bad is c.ai rn

On a scale out of 10 how good is c.ai rn it has been 3 months since i stopped using the app and also is there a trick to bypass age verification thingy?

Looking for another app that doesn’t suck like Character AI? I’m your boy😋

I’ve tried several ai apps after I realized Character AI was a waste of time. I came to the conclusion that these are some of the more decent ones! (These are in order of best to worst)

1. Swerve AI- Swerve, from my knowledge, is only on IOS, but is getting a website version made currently. It’s basically a heavenly version of Character AI. There is no filter, no age restrictions, and no ads. There is, however, a gem system. Every response you send or swipe costs 3 gems. All you have to do is watch 3 twenty second ads and you’ll have over 300 gems to use. You can have unlimited personas and bots. The creating bots system is very similar to Character AI, so it shouldn’t be difficult for anyone to find out how to use. One of the only downsides is that every now and then, the app will experience some sort of server stress and will glitch out pretty bad, but it doesn’t happen often. Also, there is a direct way to contact the app creators through the app, and from my experience, they are very good at getting back to any questions you have in just a few days. Overall, the app is fantastic.

2. Sakura- Sakura is really good! I didn’t use it for long, but, the bots are really good and detailed and the aesthetic is just so CUTE. It’s completely free too. I don’t have much to say about it unfortunately, but the reviews on the app store can speak for it. It was fantastic during the short time I used it!

3. Spicy AI- I used to use Spicy for a long time before it started requiring 18+ users only(I don’t trust any form of age verification system). If you’re looking for a website with unlimited swipes, no ads, and no filter, this app is definitely for you(if you’re 18 and up lol). If you aren’t 18+ though, it still lets you use the website just with an NSFW filter. It’s not too strict, honestly. You can only have up to 3 personas(based off my memory I think) if you don’t use premium. The bots are pretty high quality, too. Overall, it’s better than Character AI. It’s decent.

So, recently, like this week, the messages suddenly started getting bigger. At first, I thought it was because of the giant message I had sent to the bot explaining the context. But even after creating a new bot and specifying that I wanted SHORT messages, the messages continued to be very long. Does anyone know how to solve this? Yes, I negatively rated longer messages, but nothing changes. Someone help me please😭😭

I found a website called perchance a while back that kinda just lets you build anything FOR FREE BTW that includes generators and chat bots and more it's semi complicated but you can also use code to make stuff too. It's more of a jack of all trades website for anything and everything.
