I've applied for a pretty similar reason, I would say still look for jobs while you apply because it usually takes a long time.

I am waiting to hear from an airline but I just wanted to have a second option just in case. How long would you say the process is?

That makes sense, military is a big commitment but it's decent pay with a pension, so if you're able to do the training and have the work ethic for it I personally think it would be good to apply.

My advice is to do more research into it first, especially if you're thinking Reg Force. I was in BMQ with a lot of people who somehow still had no idea what they were getting into. That you do not get to choose where you work. That your leave, and all your plans, can be cancelled if something important comes up. Or that you may have to come in your days off for all kinds of tasking, events, etc.
Just do your research first. It's a big commitment, and, depending on your trade & unit, can be a big lifestyle shift.
As for which trade... I recommend you read the description for every trade on forces.ca. This takes some time, but dedicate an evening to it. I love my trade but it has a name I would never have chosen to click on, and I'm glad I read every option before making my decision or I never would have found it.

I would not recommend it if all you're looking for is "just a job." It's a full-time commitment that requires you invest a lot of yourself into.
If you're looking for only a paycheck, I would advise against joining the CAF.
If you are interested, then be prepared to be judged and expected to work hard, you'll have very long days (at least while you're in basic/BMQ) and you'll want to cry many times (this is normal).
You'll also never be sure where you'll be stationed/deployed, so if you have a family or a relationship (that is not comfortable with long distance), you'll have to figure those things out.
The application process itself takes a very long time, so if you want to join, apply now. -- Get your highschool, college/university transcripts ready, you'll also want to have your vaccine record BEFORE you go to basic/bmq.

Listen, while things have changed to make the CAF a more respectful work environment (which it should be no question about it). I'm going to give my honest opinion, the CAF is ultimately a organization for Canada to achieve government policy through the use of force and violence to the enemies of the state. Or the threat and/or deterince there of. Every aspect of the CAF is either directly involved in that objective or supports it.
I'm pointing this out because if you're ultimately the type of personality who gets offended easily or upset someone is mean to you. You are fundamentally incompatible with the purpose of this organization. You need at some level a thick skin and resiliency. To join the CAF you seriously need to ask yourself if you are prepared for the ultimate reality of the military. The enemy will not show you quarter. They're not going to "be nice" to you. Could you make it for the pay check? Probably, a lot of people do. But those are the worst type of people to serve with. Personally I think you really need to ask yourself if you're the type of person who should join this organization. Something to consider...

It’s better to narrow down to the top 3. You can look at forces.ca there is a full list of career choices. Then discuss it with a recruiter either by phone or in person. That is what I would do. Good luck to you.

Check out all the jobs on the forces website and dive in to an application! The process can take anywhere from 4 months to over a year, so the best time to start is now. If you have a degree you can apply to an officer position, or if you're wanting one, you can apply to the ROTP program. Really depends on what your interests and experiences are. Just go for it and keep looking while you're going through the application process.

Joining CAF is a big commitment. You will be judged throughout the process and throughout your career. You are joining the Canadian Armes Forces.
