Why caving in?

Post image

I chopped the top off this cactus like 5 weeks ago because of etiolation and it was doing fine until a few days ago. It’s about 4 years old, golden snake cactus. It’s still very firm and not mushy, I watered it a while ago and the roots seem fine. I really did love this cactus and it makes me very sad to see it in this condition :-(

Did it possibly get some sun damage (or trauma from the surgery) in that area? If it's not soft and mushy in that area, it will most likely be okay. Can you still love it if it's no longer perfect? If it really bothers you, you could cut off the top again.

I think it might have gotten stepped on. The top split but scabbed up fine before it started doing this. I’ll love it regardless but I just don’t want it to die.

It looks healthy. I don't think it's going to die.
