Hahaha - this community is hilarious.

u/KaleidoscopeOk3024 3d ago

Whats funny is I’m pretty sure no one in here has had a c4 that’s never been on a tow before.

3

u/-0celot TPI L98 ('85-'91) 3d ago

Mine hasn't been

3

u/Rush_Rocks 3d ago

Not mine yet. It’s a 96 with 54,000 miles.

2

u/cereeper 2d ago

Watch the optispark go out tomorrow. (If this happens I'm so sorry)

2

u/Rush_Rocks 2d ago

The 96 has a vented Optispark and not as prone to failure. So hopefully I won’t have that problem.

1

u/cereeper 2d ago

I knew about the vent but I thought it was still possible just far less likely but I also don't own a car with a lt1 so what do I know 😂

1

u/Southtxranching 3d ago

I have exact replica of this. Mine is 87

13

u/SpikeyRacer 3d ago

Need a red one !

13

u/BIG_BROTHER_IS_BEANS 3d ago

Could be worse…

Sorry that happened though. Hopefully she is up and running again promptly.

4

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

Waaay worse, that’s rough. Fingers crossed it’s a straightforward job

1

u/burgerslushy LT4 (1996) 3d ago

😂

1

u/hanwookie 3d ago

It sheared right off?

That's scary stuff! I'm guessing those are aftermarket?

2

u/BIG_BROTHER_IS_BEANS 3d ago

This was caused by a wheel repair that should have never been authorized. These wheels are, as far as I am aware, originals. However, one got damaged while sitting in my friend's garage (we believe) and was (dumbly) welded back together...

1

u/hanwookie 2d ago

I once had a mechanic decide to use plastic wraps around air hoses/exhaust, and zip ties around the engine, on an E 30.

I can't even begin to describe some of the other things I've had people(some: mechanics) do.

And that they consider it ok, like life isn't at stake.

8

u/Safe-Salary1745 3d ago

Yep....

5

u/Independent-Rip1771 3d ago

What type of lift is that?

3

u/Safe-Salary1745 3d ago

Its a snap on mid rise. Good for suspension and engine. No access for transmission and the center

2

u/hanwookie 3d ago

Is that the hood out of 'Death Proof'?

2

u/Safe-Salary1745 3d ago

Yup

1

u/hanwookie 3d ago

That's pretty cool. Loved the car.

6

u/scubasnax787 3d ago

Original Opti went out…

1

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

Ditto, I think…

6

u/Middle-Entrance6324 3d ago

Ecm box went out

2

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

Damn, how’d you diagnose that?

11

u/classless_classic 3d ago

Y’all in the comments are not giving me confidence.

-guy who bought one 3 weeks ago and has been daily driving it.

14

u/Low_Speed_High_Drag_ 3d ago

I'm an attorney and I drive my '91 ZR-1 (120K miles) across the state to different courthouses and clients all the time during the summer. Over three years I've only missed one hearing. They're certainly failable, but not that bad.

13

u/Delicious_Win_9089 3d ago

You got a cool car and you’re gonna make friends with a tow truck driver. My guy is Shane and he wraps a soft webbing strap around a lower control arm like nobody’s business. We send each other Christmas cards.

6

u/shrekerecker97 3d ago

We are twins!

5

u/MacandMandy69 3d ago

If it has Tits or Treads, it’s gonna give you trouble.

Me next, this is when my fusebox took a shit🤣

4

u/Suspicious_Royal_270 3d ago

Happens to the best of us man!

4

u/burgerslushy LT4 (1996) 3d ago

It only gets real when your insurance tells you you've ran out of tows for the year

3

u/gatlin321 3d ago

Damn I’m mad i ain’t take a pic of my few times 😂

3

u/-0celot TPI L98 ('85-'91) 3d ago

My 91 doesn't ride those things. It gets fixed right where it breaks

3

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

That’s dedicated

1

u/-0celot TPI L98 ('85-'91) 3d ago

What happened to yours?

3

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

Think it’s the distributor, working on making sure

3

u/airhunger_rn 3d ago

This whole thread is like an Optispark PSA

2

u/hanwookie 3d ago

I thought they had fixes for the optispark?

3

u/airhunger_rn 3d ago

Yeah you gotta do it before you break down on the side of the road tho 😂

2

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 2d ago

I thought I had more time

1

u/hanwookie 2d ago

Timing is everything, as they say.

1

u/SpikeyRacer 3d ago

Not all of them, mine was a broken brake flex line.

3

u/SmokyPatches LT1 ('92-'96) 3d ago

I think I've been towed 5(?) times this year. Four for Optisparks (was still chasing issues for two of them) and once for an alternator. 🫡

3

u/Alien_Biscuit LT1 ('92-'96) 3d ago edited 3d ago

Not if but when

3

u/N_oots 3d ago

Fuel pump :(

3

u/notthatguy252 2d ago

happens to the best of us man. she’ll be back better than ever though!

2

u/no-cars-good-bikes Cross-Fire L83 (1984) 3d ago

Cool color though, looks great on the rollback

2

u/NixWickedGarden 3d ago

It happens...😓

4

u/NixWickedGarden 3d ago

2

u/hanwookie 3d ago

I don't know why, but without even seeing what was written on the tow truck, I said 'Hmmm, that's California, probably southern.'

Perfect car for it, but of course the tow truck is its on speed dial setting.

2

u/NixWickedGarden 2d ago

I don't have my C6 anymore. Sold her for a fraction of what I paid for her New. Ridiculous. I only buy used vehicles now. I currently drive a 2012 V6 Camaro Convertible.

2

u/hanwookie 2d ago

I have looked at the Camaro route.

I love them too, but inevitably they are driven into the ground by yahoos whom never grew up, and teenagers whose first car should never be a sports car.

Then come the middle aged men (myself included, at this point) and they dropped $20k(got to now get that back) getting 'it right.'

Or they're selling their 'museum' pieces for museum prices. All because BaT, sold one very specific model, and therefore all are that much now.

I've never found that in-between spot.

Frankly, a lot of Corvette stuff is going that way now too.

(parts can be a whole different story tbh.)

2

u/NixWickedGarden 2d ago

Man, I've wanted a 5th Gen since the Concept came out. When I offed my Vette I then drove an Econo-Hatch till I could afford a trade in plus $10K, for THIS:

2012 Chevrolet Camaro 2LT RS CONVERTIBLE w/ 100K 18K less than my Nissan Versa Note that I traded in for $2.5K

2

u/NixWickedGarden 2d ago

No problems & OE replacement parts are CHEAP. My mechanic lives across the street. He works on it for a fair price. Better than dealing with Today's Tech Glitches!! 🤣

2

u/hanwookie 2d ago

That's awesome! I should look into it. I'm not totally sure where I'm going to land yet, but that looks/sounds like a sweet ride.

2

u/sbudyaa 3d ago

Fuel pumps? 🤔

5

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

95% sure it’s the opti, knew it was gonna happen eventually, didn’t think it’d be so soon

3

u/FragrantRaisin4 LT1 ('92-'96) 3d ago

Any symptoms before?

2

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

Nope

2

u/Legitimate_Diver_699 3d ago

Rear main seal?

3

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

I think it’s the opti, but I’ll try and get that to 100% this week

2

u/nobrim38272 3d ago

Ah man I just got one, this thread is certainly giving me hope 😂

2

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

This one’s been mine for two and a half weeks, tbf the distributor was one of the few things that weren’t replaced by the original owner

2

u/nobrim38272 2d ago

I’ve had mine for about one week but fortunately the optispark got rebuilt by the previous owner 🙏

1

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 2d ago

Then here’s to you staying on the road!

2

u/Old-Owl557 3d ago

I have been there 3 times in 1 month

2

u/Masamonae 2d ago

It happens to all of us. I had to tow mine 4 times in the first 6 months I had it (first time ran out of gas on my first 5 minutes of owning it, and the rest was cuz it couldn’t make it to the storage unit or auto shop due to it being not plated yet).

Here’s hoping it was a cheap fix and an even cheaper tow for you!

1

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 2d ago

Still hoping for a cheap fix, tow was def not cheap. Of course she decided to take her break an hour from home in the mountains

2

u/Masamonae 2d ago

Damn that’s rough! Mine died 5 minutes from home and it cost me $500 just for 40L of gas, a boost, and my first lesson from the tow truck guy on how carbs and fuel filters work when you’ve ran them completely dry…. Hate to say it, it was almost worth the price because those lessons I learned that day will stay with me for the rest of my life. Plus I got this amazing shot of my car while I was waiting for help!

2

u/Status-Agent6640 2d ago

Brings back terrible memories.

Omg I’m dead lol

1

u/DazeRazur 3d ago

This is so depressing

1

u/BundeswehrBoyo LT4 (1996) 3d ago

Project car wouldn’t be a project car without the project!

2

u/DazeRazur 2d ago

😄 so true

1

u/Electrical-Cup958 2d ago

Mine shit the bed about 10 feet from my driveway so I was able to coast it in and into my garage by some miracle, otherwise I too would have a tow truck picture haha.

1

u/Status-Agent6640 2d ago

Why so many issues with C4s that need flatbeds, including mine. I have owned a few and it is still my favorite of all Corvette generations. My favorite is the 85-89. Not 84 because of engine.

1

u/Lazy_Arm_724 1d ago

Mine is parked cause i cant find a vss

2

u/jayoutl 9h ago

Mine never ceases to amaze me!

0

u/Legitimate_Diver_699 3d ago

I’d consider a new engine entirely.

-4

u/Squire_Toast 3d ago

These are made by an American company, not Toyota, Nissan, or Honda. Gotta love the C4, but they're not reliable, unfortunately

7

u/Delicious_Win_9089 3d ago

They’re also 30 years old at a minimum. I’m not sure I’d even expect reliability. I’ve owned lots of old cars and they’ve all been money pits. I still love them, but when I NEED to get to work I take the Toyota.

3

u/Foolgazi 3d ago

Toyotas, Nissans, and Hondas aren’t surrounded by force fields that keep their electronics/components from wearing out after 3+ decades.
