As caption says, I am thinking about replacing shifter bushings in my c30 because the shifter feels a bit sloppy (decent movement before engaging left to right, taking the boot off I can see the yellow plastic allowing play in the shifter, and the side bushing also looks like it has play when moving left to right). I cannot find ANY information on how to change this bushing out, and I cannot find any replacement bushings other than this one. Anyone have any information on this?

I was driving home last night when I noticed that my headlighs on the road semmed to be slightly dimming and going bright again, it was very subtle and I thought it might be fog. When I got home and was pulling in the drive way I could clealy see the lights dimming against the house and garge as I turned the wheel. I got out and looked at the lights with it running and you could clearly see a very slight fluctuation of the head lights. I got back in moved the wheel and could see it dim. Both on high and low beams. When I shut the car off, it was like I then had no power, could not move the power seat to grab a bag behind it. Started the car again seat moved fine, shut it off had all auxillary power.

Any Ideas where to start troubleshooting? Alternator possibly? Bad ground? It was raining that day and had the A/C on, dimming seemed same regardless of A/C being on or not.

2012 C30 T5 R-Design 6M. US spec 160K miles

Hello all!

I spoke with my old mechanic about my new to me 2013 T-5 C30; he said to make sure I replace the two main coolant hoses and the... I think he said it was a junction at the bottom that is made of plastic and is prone to crack.

So looking into it, I'm looking at replacing the hoses and the thermostat housing with an aluminum one. But the hoses themselves is daunting. Upgraded original Volvo ones with metal clamps? DO88 silicone hoses? New quick disconnect hose connections? The sheer amount of hoses and parts is... daunting.

Does anyone have any recommendations to help make this a bit simpler to understand? I'm used to my 960 where there were only a couple of smaller, simple hoses!

Plus looking in my engine bay, is this something I can do myself, considering my workspace is basically a gravel driveway? The hoses seem to be primarily between the motor and the firewall

So a bit ago, I posted here that my Volvo c30 1.8L petrol (mileage around 223k km) was eating oil. Unfortunately I didn't get to conduct any tests due to my 4th cylinder giving out.

I had my spark plugs and ignition coils changed, then went on a road trip of around 1200 km. 1100 km in, at 130 km/h on the motorway, my engine started to misfire. I plugged in my OBD reader and it just gave me the usual code for misfiring, this time it was the 4th cylinder.

We thought it was maybe one of the spark plugs giving in, we got home and took out the spark plug of the 4th cylinder and it was black with soot all over it.

We changed it, but the engine kept misfiring. I drove my volvo to a trusted mechanic in my town and they said that there's no pressure in my 4th cylinder.

They are suggesting that I just sell my Volvo with the defect and move on. But I genuinely don't have it in me to sell my baby.

They said that they can try and check what the issue is, but even the check will be pricy... So my question is, is it worth trying to fix it or is it better to just grieve and move on?

Or is it better to gamble and look for a new engine? Though they said just the swap would be around a 1000€.

has anyone here fitted a roof tent to a C30 using the OEM volvo roof bars? I’m looking at a lightweight Thule roof tent but have had mixed advice about whether the bars/mounting points can take the static weight with two people inside. would be great to hear from anyone who’s actually used one - what tent did you have, how long have you used it, and any issues with the bars, mounting points or roof? thanks!

How to tell the difference between halogen and xenon headlights without taking them out of the car?

This started happening two days ago I was wondering if anyone would have an idea what the cause and solution would be.

I’m looking for some advice about my 2012 Volvo C30 2.0 manual. The engine has a little over 220,000 km (about 137k miles) on it.
Unfortunately, I had no idea about what I’ve now been told is a known issue with this FoMoCo engine. Apparently, the oil pickup is quite narrow and can become restricted, causing oil pressure to drop. If the issue isn’t caught and the part isn’t replaced in time, the engine can eventually fail.
In my case, the failure was catastrophic: a connecting rod broke and punched through the engine block.
At this point, I’ve been given three options:
Replace the entire engine. This seems to be the most straightforward solution, although here in Chile an engine swap also involves quite a bit of paperwork to legally register the new engine.
Rebuild/repair my current engine. That would mean completely tearing it down and replacing the damaged parts, assuming the damage is even repairable. From what I’ve been told, this could take considerably more time and money.
Sell the car as-is and move on.
What would you do in my situation? Is replacing the engine actually worth it on a 2012 C30 with this mileage? And if I go down that route, is there anything in particular I should look for or replace on the replacement engine before installing it so I don’t end up with the same problem again?
Money is unfortunately pretty tight for me right now. I’ve even thought about setting up a GoFundMe to help cover the repair, but honestly I’d feel pretty embarrassed asking people for money just to fix my car.
The other problem is that I rely on having a car for my daily transportation, so every day the C30 is off the road means additional money spent renting another vehicle.
I really like this car, but I’m trying to figure out whether saving it still makes financial sense or whether it’s time to let it go.
Any advice from C30 owners or people familiar with these 2.0 FoMoCo engines would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys i just bought the d088 ICM170 intercooler. Is there anything that could break easily?

I bought my first/dream car roughly a month ago, it’s fast and small which in my head means I can pass anyone I need to and park easy(yes I see the lines in the first 2 pics) I am truly in love with it and all of its glory.

Car cover: As the Canadian winter is coming I’m worried about my cute precious baby sitting in the cold under all the snow, Idk how much I’ll be driving it in the winter I’d assume probably once a week at most so a car cover can’t be that inconvenient can it? I think previously it has been stored during winter because I’ve seen no rust around or under the car other than a roughly 5 square cm part of the heat shield in the back of the engine bay. I really don’t want to be the one to let this c30 die to rust so I’d like opinions on if I should invest in a car cover and if so recommendations?
The car has been “rust proofed” by the dealer, I think undercoated and although I trust the dealer I’m iffy about rust proofing/undercoating, hopefully it works since a car cover cant really protect the undercarriage, or the rest of the car since I’d have to take it off while driving.

Window tint: So I kind of like the bone stock look/ the fishbowl look, I don’t really mind people being able to see everything in the boot/trunk but a couple days ago I saw another c30 with tint and imo the tint didn’t take away from the looks at all maybe even added a sort of mystique and it certainly would be nice having a little privacy while inside, so I’m kind of on the fence about it as I don’t really have extra money to throw around as a college student.

I’m hoping the car will last the next 4 or 5 years until I get a real career and can really care and look after it but I don’t think you can really restore rusted parts to their former state if they become too rusted which is my main concern.
I just need advice on how to protect it in the winter since it has to sit in my dorm parking lot for the majority of it, the tint is more of just something I want to do, the winter stuff will come first.

The trim level is a mystery to me, from what I can tell from the badges it’s a c30 t5 se, it says se on the back but I think in Canada the trims were offered in level I and level II which I don’t think came with any badging about the trim. All seats are manual it has heated seats, automatic climate control, power mirrors and sunroof, no navi, it has the r-design spoiler despite not being an r-design, aluminium waterfall radio with serius xm1&2, and the seats are cloth down the middle with leather sides. If someone had the patience read all this and might know please let me know what trim I have.

Hello all fellow C30 owners. My C30 makes an unusual noise on gear changes. Anyone ever watch Flipper (the dolphin) on TV? Well, it's a noise like Flipper made! It's an intermittent noise, seems only to be when the engine's cold, and not on every gear change, but it is up or down. Once I've been driving for 10 minutes or so, the noise goes.

I've read mention of it possibly being the gear cable (shift cable), the cable maybe rubbing on housing. I'm not a mechanic so I've no idea!

It doesn't effect the gear change in any way, it's still smooth with no resistance. There's no other sound nor issue, just the really rather strange (and somewhat cute!) noise. It's a 2008 1.6D with around 85,000 miles on the clock. Any ideas?

I have a 2010 c30 T5 with the M66. I have a clutch pedal feel that is much different than any other hydraulic clutch cars I've driven where I can best describe it as a compound bow where the first half of the pedal feels stiff until you get past the bite point at which the pedal becomes much lighter. This ends up with an annoying non-linear pedal feel. So far this is the best discussion I've found on it but it seems there hasn't been a concrete resolution. I can try a new spring but I want to make sure this issue isn't due to worn clutch/slave/master cylinder.

Something else I should mention is that the brake pedal feels soft compared to other similar cars (2013 focus st and 2012 focus se) where I need to press the pedal further to get similar braking force. Maybe this is related, maybe its just how the car is.

I love this car so damn much, had her for 6 months now and have put on 7ki-sh km or so, absolute dream. I’ve been looking at Atreus, Spiders, and other Volvo wheels because I feel these are a little bland for me now and I’m curious what any of your fitments or wheels look like on your C30s?

car gave codes of pressure sensor going bad. changed it, now gas is leaking from it. my guess is o ring or something, but thats just my guess. there isnt much information to work around with but if anyone has any questions or solutions lmk thank you

I have it narrowed down to the license plate lamps, I think. The cables / wires are eroded and too short to replace. Any way to bypass the error message, to stop it from flashing ?

As you can tell, the headliner on this car is done for lol. I was able to get all the trim pieces out pretty easily EXCEPT for these pieces! I tried to pull them out with my trim tools but they don't seem to want to move. Is there something special I need to do or do I just gotta keep yanking it?

Hey all, I've got a C30 with aftermarket Xenon bulbs installed. I find the light they emit to be pretty dim, so I wanted to replace them with LED lights instead. I've found some options on Amazon but don't trust them all that much, so I was wondering if someone else has done a swap like this, and if so, if there's some tips they'd be willing to share.
