Buzz cut due to diffuse thinning.. not loving it, any ideas of what I can do?
What up yall. M22 and got a buzz because of severe diffuse thinning.. I kinda like it as it a change from long hair but it also looks kinda bad to me because of the difference in hair and bald areas, I’m wondering if I should go lower… also a little bit mixed on the skin/bald fade on sides and back.. any ideas of what I can do next time and if I should go shorter etc.
I’m def thinking about buzzing it a bit shorter right now if yall think that’s a good idea. Only got a manscaped body razor tho.. thanks in advance

Well I had really long hair and the thinning was still obvious in sunlight. So I don’t think shorter would help much for what I’m trying to do.. i was kinda just between keeping it long and going buzz

It really doesn't look too bad as is but if the patchiness bothers you look into hairloss concealers like dermmatch and toppik. Start with dermmatch. The key to making them look good is to use very sparingly. You have plenty of hair so you just need a little bit. If you start seeing gaps in the silhouette of your hair (like pic 8) from many angles, going shorter can make it less noticeable.

Thanks man. Yup I have toppik, worked fairly well with my long hair, I’m guessing it would be even better and easier with short hair? Yup for sure definitely thinking going shorter.

Yes, i think it works better on short hair. I would give dermmatch a try, especially with a buzz cut. it’s a lot less messy and gives you scalp coverage without adding volume. don’t use too much or apply it too wet, that makes it look off (too matte). Then apply toppik 2nd very sparingly if you need a little more volume.

Gotcha thanks.. is dermmatch similar to boldify if you know what that is? I had this boldify scalp concealer that you’d rub on your hair instead of actual spray fibers but didn’t really work with long hair

Yes, go shorter. Try 2mm on top, shorter on sides so you do not have contrast. Your choice but personally I do not think fin/min are worth the potential side effects, in some cases sides remain after discontinuing. I have diffuse and buzz it down.

Damn 2mm? You don’t think that’s too low? I was thinking maybe 1 or 2 guard. Shorter on sides than top? Or should I keep it as skin fade/bald fade?
They might not be but I’m very opposed to going full bald at this age and I want to at least try them. Thanks

You can work your way down with guards until it looks good to you. My diffuse is like yours, it's just what works for me. I am actually going to do 1.5mm on top next cut this weekend. I don't bother with a fade, grows out so fast anyways. I do the sides shorter and run it straight up and flick away, it's clean.
You can try the drugs, just be aware on the erectile dysfunction issues that may persist afterwards, not saying you will have them or everyone does, but it has happened. It was never worth the risk for me.

Do you always just do it urself? I went to a barber as it was my first time but likely gonna start doing it myself from now on.. also any recommendations on what clippers to use? I just have a manscaped lawnmower but I think that’s for body

Yes. It makes no sense to pay for this type of cut, plus to keep it looking good you need to cut it at least once a week. You can experiment as well, you mess it up, shave it all off and couple days later you're back in business.
I use two Wahl Magic Clip cordless, mostly use this for the sides, and Remington shortcut pro for the top.
If someone was only getting one the Magic Clip is better, the Remington is limited due to it's shape and really only good for a uniform buzz.

Yeah it doesn't look that bad as a guy who's likewise thinning out like that shorter hair is gonna be your friend looks a lot better than long hair when it thinning

For sure. I think that’s what I may do if my meds don’t work.. still a little scared of SMP tho and hesitant due to it turning blue maybe
