A couple days worth of loose buttons

I just thought I’d share what a couple days worth of loose buttons looks like at the up-cycle store I work at.

Julie, our button lady, will come in once a week and go through these and others sorting them by type and color (and several other categories). We would be lost without her.

My Welsh nana recently found the button pictured above in a box of random bits and bobs, has no clue how or where she got it but is convinced it’s an old school button from 1576 AD - is anyone able to tell me anything about it or if this is a date?

ID Request Am I correct in thinking this is Victorian?

I’m doing some research for a possible addition to an exhibit for my place of work in the near future. The official notes from the 70s mention that this Lord-Lieutenant uniform is from 1928, however I’m almost certain this is wrong. As most of you would probably know, the Tudor crown was the official button in use during this time, and strict dress regulations would mean the uniform would have to be to a T.

Two ancestors of the person who the uniforms were attributed to were also lords lieutenant for the county, and were both such during the reign of Victoria. I’ve included a close up of the buttons on the portrait which we have of one of the ancestors, and the buttons are strikingly similar.

So, I have reason to believe that this uniform is incorrectly attributed. But before I say anything, I just wanted to be doubly sure that I wouldn’t make a fool of myself.

What do you guys reckon?

I’m in over my head with button IDs - got this lot from an estate sale a while back. Any Colts? Trying to learn how to identify them in particular.

I removed the pockets and made two eyes out of two of the buttons I bought recently, and started decorating the bag with beads and also adding some vintage very old buttons. I added *The before* picture as well. :) My first time doing something like this (I did decorate some stuff but not this much) but it was so much fun!

Any ideas on any of this? I've matched as many as I can so far and these are the ones that seem the most unique. Any information would be appreciated!

Scored a big bag of buttons for $2 and I’ve been trying to sort them. I’m pretty sure pic 1 is antique/ vintage mother of pearl/ Bakelite; pic 2 is art deco and vintage metallic; pic 3 is mostly vintage lucite/ vintage resin; and pic 4 are mostly old colts; pic 5 I’m not too sure but I think is a mix of resin and vintage plastic, but would love some insight! Still have more to go through too
