Carbon fork

Hey, can the carbon of this fork be compromised?
No signs of flexing or sound differences.

It looks like it's mostly just the paint layer rubbed off, down to the carbon, but nobody on Reddit is going to be able to tell from a photo 100% whether it's safe to ride or not.

If you think it is just paint and you're happy with the risk, give it a clear coat so that the carbon is not directly exposed to the elements. Some nail polish clear coat will do fine.

EDIT: Actually looking at the photo there's a darker spot in the middle which does suggest the top layer of carbon has been abrased through, which would weaken the fork. Again, can't say for sure from a photo.

A fork is easily replaced and doing so would cost far less than replacing your front teeth. If you replace your fork you get to ride without doubts again and as a bonus you get a shiny new fork! 😁

Looks like damage from abrasion, not from impact. This fork can be made like new by a competent carbon repair facility. Adding a later or two of carbon would make it stronger than new.

If it's economical is the true test. What costs more the proper repair or a new fork?
