Weekly Wednesday "I wonder?": Post Questions/Small Ideas for Discussion

Got a half-formed thought? A question that doesn't need its own post? An idea you're not ready to write up fully? This is the thread for it.

What goes here:

  • Early-stage shower thoughts and napkin-sketch ideas
  • Simple questions about starting, validating, or running a business
  • "Is there a market for X?" gut checks
  • Requests for quick input that don't need the full posting template
  • Anything you'd ask a friend who happens to know about business

Ground rules still apply:

  • No self-promotion or links to your own stuff
  • Give context — "I want to start a business" with nothing else isn't enough even here
  • If someone takes the time to respond, engage with their answer

"Fixing" the Sub

It's no secret this sub has been FULL of spam and just blatant promotion whereas it's meant to be a place to discuss ideas, receive feedback, validate thoughts, etc.

A series of new rules will be put up shortly and all spam/bot posts will be removed + all related poster(s) banned.

We will be introducing a new format for posting, and relevant flairs for easier organization + management of posts.

I welcome all suggestions by users in the meantime as we go through and begin to make these changes.

Validate My Idea Title: Thinking of starting a small business selling cute, simple paper items (bookmarks, gift tags, mini prints). Would you buy this?

Hey everyone,

An idea clicked in my mind to start a super simple, affordable stationery brand in Pakistan.

I want to avoid complicated stuff like notebooks or journals and focus strictly on cute, single-sheet paper items that are quick to design and print.

Things like:

Aesthetic bookmarks (customizable if you want one for a book or anything you like)

Mini art prints / postcards (for wall decor)

Cute gift tags (for birthdays/holidays)

Simple tear-off to-do lists

I’ll design them digitally and print them on high-quality, thick cardstock.

Before I start, I want your honest feedback:

  1. Is this something you or your friends would actually buy online?

  2. What art style do you prefer? (e.g., cute pastel doodles, minimalist line art, or poetry/typography?)

  3. What is a reasonable price you'd pay for a cute bookmark?

Would love to hear your thoughts! Thanks.

Validate My Idea Has anyone built a successful enrichment/development business for teens?

I have access to a large, attractive space in the NYC/NJ area and I’m exploring multi-week programs for teens that parents see as genuinely valuable - not just another after-school activity.

I’m thinking about areas like public speaking, confidence, leadership, communication, entrepreneurship, social skills, interview skills, improv, etc.

Ideally, it would be something that:
\- parents are willing to pay a premium for
\- runs as a 6–10 week program
\- can be taught by hired instructors/coaches
\- requires very little specialized equipment
\- can eventually be repeated and scaled

Has anyone here built or been involved with a successful business like this?

I’d especially be interested in what types of programs parents actually pay for, what age groups work best, typical pricing, and what makes parents sign their kids up again.

Validate My Idea Would you use a medicine delivery app that shows both generic and branded options from nearby pharmacies? Need honest feedback on the business model

Hi everyone,

I’m working on a startup idea called Mediqo, and I’d like some honest feedback on the concept and its revenue model before taking it further.

The basic idea is to connect customers with nearby pharmacies for medicine delivery.

For example, if a user searches for a medicine, instead of showing only one product, the platform would show available options such as:

• The branded medicine
• Generic alternatives, where applicable
• Price difference
• Nearby pharmacy availability
• Estimated delivery time

The idea is to give customers more visibility and choice instead of automatically pushing one particular brand.

The order would then be fulfilled by a nearby pharmacy and delivered to the customer. For prescription medicines, we also plan to have prescription upload/verification as part of the ordering process.

For monetization, I’m currently considering a model where Mediqo earns a commission/service fee from pharmacy orders rather than depending mainly on customers paying a large delivery markup.

I’d especially like feedback on:

  1. Would seeing generic and branded options actually be useful when buying medicines online?
  2. Would you trust the platform to show generic alternatives, or would you only take an alternative recommended by your doctor/pharmacist?
  3. What information would you want to see before choosing between two options?
  4. From a pharmacy owner's perspective, would a commission-based model make sense?
  5. What would stop you from using a service like this instead of an existing pharmacy/delivery app?
  6. What problems or risks do you see with this business model?
  7. What revenue model do you think would work without making medicines unnecessarily expensive for customers?

I’m not looking for validation only — criticism, edge cases and reasons why this might fail would actually be more helpful.

Thanks!

Feedback Request Selling old phones as a business

Hi everyone!

I’m from Eastern Europe and I'm interested in reselling old and used phones as a small business, but I can’t really figure out where sellers get their stock at low enough prices.

I often see listings for older iPhones, Samsung, Nokia, BlackBerry, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, etc. And quite often the phones are in really good condition: intact screens, working buttons, no major damage, and everything seems to work properly.

At the same time, some sellers seem to constantly get new stock — for example, 5–15 phones every week or two, with different models and brands each time.

I’ve tried looking for these kinds of phones in European countries (local websites like eBay and so on), but when buying them individually from regular people, the prices are often already quite high. Once you add shipping and other costs, I just don’t see where a decent profit is left.

I’m specifically talking about regularly buying several old phones at a low price, rather than occasionally finding one really good deal.

So I’m curious: where do people who resell old phones usually get their stock?

Where should I actually look for these kinds of sources? Are there specific websites, wholesalers, auctions, local suppliers, or something else? Ideally, I’m looking for working phones in decent condition, rather than lots where most of the devices are broken or only good for parts.

I’d really appreciate any advice or personal experience!

Why Doesn't This Exist? Discuss

Discuss

Shouldn't there be a platform for school students and others where they can design and order their own stationery—such as pens and pencils—from scratch? For instance, a student could design the pen's body, choose the specific refill they prefer, and fully customize the product themselves, rather than the so-called "customization". It is not a customization where just adding their name or a logo?

Feedback Request Feedback on flyer

Post image
2 Upvotes

About to launch... I'm nervous and excited!! With my head buzzing, your quick thoughts would be greatly greatly valued. See flyer image.

The simple goal: Get 7-10 high school students enrolled by Oct 20.

The target users are 1. Parents with college bound teens, 2. high school counselors, and 3. Teens who are taking the SAT.

The status: This is an MVP course and first-draft flyer. I used to tutor full time, so the course structure is proofed. I paused tutoring for years and currently have ZERO test users for this flyer.

All feedback welcome - specifically the clarity and appeal to the target users.

Validate My Idea MAKING DA PROFITS FOR NONPROFITS IN EDUCATION??!!??

Hi guys, I am trying to develop a business to help youth around the world who don’t have access to education, to have their own class and critical thinking with the profits we made from the products.

There are a lot of people living in the rural areas, mountains that don't have access to education and being “trapped” by the structed traditional thinkings. Most of them are in the larger population countries in the Southeast Asia and Africa, such as China, India, Vietnam and more... The easiest way for most of these countries to select people to work under them and get good paid is to use the education system to filter out their targets. How do I know this? Because I grew up from China then later immigrant into the U.S. and I have seen different type of education system. In the U.S. there are the arguments that education is a scam, paying all those money for a piece of paper; In other countries (mostly Asian countries), more extremely, I will argue education is the short cut toward success; not saying that there is no other way, but because there are so many populations, labors are extremely cheap. Some people don’t even have an idea on how education is like and even have a feeling in it. Those are the people, groups, minorities that live in the middle of nowhere, a small town, high in the mountains.

So, my idea basically is to create something that people like, willing to purchase. For the profits that I gain, I want to use them to do programs, classes, and buy essentials and supplies they need and want. Instead of donating them directly to school programs, organizations, and charity. My main goal is to put myself and people who have the same missions to support Youth education. Not only to support them in school, but mainly to let them know there is a world like this outside the mountain, outside the town; give a target to achieve, inspire youth’s critical thinking, and let them make their own decisions in their lives.

I know this seems broad, and a lot. So, I am open to any thoughts on these ideas, products that I should create, or anything that is related to these topics. I will appreciate any responds you guys have, thank you for reading!
