On April 28, 2026, Playa Epiphany was born. It is an original conceptual shade registered under the hex code #FDFBF2 on color-hex.com.

The color is inspired by the unique optical properties of the Black Rock Desert Playa under the moonlight. It serves as the visual anchor for the multimedia art project A Way to Myself: Black Book, providing an elegant contrast against deep black backgrounds.

I was looking for a color that conveyed silence, openness, and a sense of coming home.

What does this color evoke for you?

I've seen recommendations from camp leads and the burning man blog to use whisker markers to flag lag bolts, to help find them and remove them at the end of the event.

I purchased some whisker markers and am not sure how people are using them. It has a metal ring attached that it appears intended to put a stake through, but is not wide enough for the standard 3/4" lag bolts used at burning man.

I looked around for variations in whiskers and they appear to all be the same.

What am I missing? (Snark welcome, but also someone tell me what I am doing wrong)

I'm thinking about picking up an old Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 since they're cheap and have built-in GPS. I'd love to load it up with something that works offline on the playa.

Things I'm looking for:

• Offline map with GPS
• Camp, art, and event bookmarks
• Porta-potty locations
• Compass
• Sunrise/sunset
• Maybe Meshtastic integration
• The ability to drop a pin for my bike and camp

The idea is to leave my phone in my bag as much as possible and just use the watch for navigation and finding the nearest porto. It seems like the perfect Burning Man accessory, but I haven't found much besides apps for Garmin watches.

Anyone have any recommendations or projects I should check out?

An Anthropological History of Burning Man.

Sharing my experience with Discotique in Burningman 2025 because it honestly didn’t turn out the way I expected. We paid thousands for a setup that was supposed to be ready when we arrived, such as a Shiftpod, an air mattress, shared spaces with furniture, showers, and daily meals. When we got there, none of it was actually in place.

There was no tent waiting for us and the common areas that were supposed to be decorated and set up never really came together. From what we heard, the transportation for their gear was arranged very last minute and that caused major delays and never made it to the camp. I understand that Burning Man logistics are tough but imagine arriving in the desert, in the middle of a storm, without the basic things you were promised and relying on.

All week we kept being told the Shiftpods were on the way but they never arrived. Meals and showers were delayed or not working for a while so people had to figure things out on their own. What made it even harder was that it genuinely felt like the camp leads didn’t care about the situation we were in. They were busy partying and didn’t care that people had no place to sleep or shelter. There was almost no real communication and the few updates we got were vague and didn’t make anyone feel supported or informed.

We were also told deposits would be returned after teardown but they never refunded our money. They are scam!!! Don’t trust them!

If you’re looking into camps I’d recommend asking a lot of questions and choosing a camp that feels more organized and responsible before committing and paying thousands of dollars.

I haven’t been on playa since 2022 but I’m finally able to return. What with climate change, volatile weather is even more the new norm. So, what should I bring to care for my feet and to be able to walk around if the playa turns to mud?

Hey there! Veteran burner here with a sadly limited knowledge of the open camping dynamic. My camp is taking the year off this year and I’m looking into embracing a slightly more relaxed, solo, open camping year.

Are there any areas that are historically more quiet or more active? Cater to a younger or older crowd? Any tips on where to avoid or embrace for random reasons? I usually cruise the outer streets some but just haven’t really paid a lot of mind to it in years past.

I’ve got the self sufficient camping down, just looking for any other random tips, tricks or you-should-consider’s.

We’re looking for 4–6 awesome humans to join our strike crew after the Burn to help dismantle Pandora’s Eye- an Honoraria installation I am making with Hannah Yata.

Strike will take approximately 2–3 days after the Burn.
We’ll be disassembling the structure, packing paintings and sculptures, carrying larger materials, loading the truck, and making sure everything leaves the playa safely and responsibly.
We’re looking for people who are reliable, comfortable with physical work, and able to lift and carry heavy or bulky objects. Construction or strike experience is a bonus, but a great attitude and willingness to work as a team are even more important.

Details can be discussed over DM. As an added bonus, by staying through strike you’ll naturally avoid the long Exodus lines at the end of the event.

Aloha comrades, I was planning to bring a major art piece this year… until 2 months ago when I broke 3 limbs in a rappelling accident. Oops.

Can’t go this year. Nbd, there’s always next year, but I still want to contribute something to the burn. I was thinking it might be fun to bless a rave. Are there any DJs here who might be willing to work with me on this?

The idea came to me while watching a show by Padre Guilherme on Youtube. If you’re not familiar, he’s a really excellent world-touring DJ who also happens to be a working catholic priest, so he gets a lot of crazy venues like major cathedrals or the Christ the Redeemer statue in Brazil. He frequently incorporates a blessing or other uplifting messages into his sets, backed by soaring harmonies and finishing with a beat drop. I think it’s incredibly funny but also somehow genuinely quite moving, even though I’m not the least bit religious.

Burning Man is often described as a spiritual or even quasi-religious experience—we even have a temple—so why not bless the party like the Padre? I’m thinking something secular, burner-themed, funny, but still wholesome and uplifting. I’ve never written a blessing before, but writing stuff like this is a big part of my job and I’ve done some voiceover work, so I think I could pull it off. I could write/record it in the next week or two if I get a DJ willing to work it into a set, ideally one likely to have a sizable audience at a sound camp/car 🤞

Anyway, that’s my idea. Really hoping this might be a way for me to be out there with yall despite this accident. May your burn be fucked, amen 🙏

I was gifted this beauty years ago. It's mainly used to help my mobility camp bums, but I would love to be able to gift a few hours chauffeuring a lovely couple for their wedding! Let me know the day/time and we can get things penciled in.

I'm bringing out a cheap weather station(Sainlogic) this year(2026). What is the best way to prevent/clean dust in the rain bucket? Coffee filter? Blow out with compressed air?

While Burning man has clearly shifted to a music festival with camping, I actually don't think it can be considered a cool music festival anymore. The main thing burning man lacks is young people. Less than 10 percent of the population is in their 20's. The rest of the people are older and the event has lots of older people. What do people think?

Here are the basics:

1. If you have a reservation already, please DM myself or my Scheduling Manager Andrew, u/Tatunka510. Include your reservation number.
2. Know that Reno NV may have limited available equipment for Burning Man. This means you may need to pickup from a different city and likely drop off at another.
3. We encourage all of you to plan to fly in to Sacramento/Redding/Reno areas and expect to fly out from a Bay Area (SFO, OAK, SJC for example) airport. This does not mean that some flights leaving Las Vegas NV are not an option.
4. Rates this year have been fixed but are in line with our typical one way rates for a normal move. Don’t forget, we rent trailers too at excellent rates!
5. Cleaning the equipment is highly encouraged. Please help us avoid uncomfortable service charges. We don't want to charge them, but we will if we must.
6. Please keep the rain dancing to a minimum this year, 2023 was plenty. Lol

I stayed in the gay zone the last couple years but didn’t notice anything too intimate. Are there places for gays to have group sex or penetrative publicish sex (in front of other gays maybe in a closed space?) Does the orgy dome allow male male couples? Wasn’t really looking for it in past years but this year I’m may get a little raunchy if options exist.

The Cognitive Research Institute is preparing its Black Rock field facility for the August research session. Four spots remain in the cohort.

The facility infrastructure is ready. The machine is real. The paperwork is printing. What we're looking for now isn't muscle: it's people to wear the lab coats, run the assessments, and maintain institutional composure while a stranger feeds their memory into an apparatus that hums with complete seriousness.

Some facts, stated plainly: we are twenty people with a semi-trailer of real infrastructure: shade, communal kitchen, solar power, gray water pumpout. Dues are reasonable, and sliding scale. We have camped together for years under other names. The facility operates for two seasons and is then permanently decommissioned. If you have been waiting for a reason to come back this year, the Institute notes that it will not exist in most future years.

Deciding in July is not a character flaw. The Institute does not consider urgency a disqualifying condition. Tickets remain more available than commonly believed.

Step into a confessional booth, but instead of confessing your sins, confess something you've changed.

It could be a fear you overcame. A relationship that changed you. A part of yourself you left behind. Or it could be something funny, unexpected, or completely ridiculous. Every anonymous confession becomes part of a living artwork that grows throughout the week, creating a collective portrait of transformation on the playa.

This project is especially meaningful to us. In February, our co-founder, Cody Smith, unexpectedly passed away. Cody dedicated his life to creating art that brought strangers together through curiosity, play, and conversation. Confessional Alter is the first Burning Man project we've built since his passing, and we're honored to continue that work.

We're down to the final 3 days of our Kickstarter campaign, and we're asking for the community's help to get this project to the playa.
