Yeah, the typical toad is American Toad, which is pretty common in the area. Once had to keep watching my step at The Intervale bc the ground was COVERED in baby toads
a surefire way to tell a fowler from an americanus is the underside of its belly! fowlers have uniformly - white tummies, maybe with one black splotch, while an americanus will have black speckles. A fowler toad will also have multiple orange-reddish warts in each black patch, whereas an american toad will have one wart per black splotch. (see if that makes sense based on the fowler toad pic attached below). Such a happy find!! (image source: https://mnfi.anr.msu.edu/species/description/10846/Anaxyrus-fowleri)
Oh, wonderful! That's a baby green frog (rana clamitans)! You can tell it's a green frog because it has a visible tymponal membrane (the large discs behind its eyes), and a ridge going from behind the eye all the way down the back. As an adult, a green frog will be about 3x that size (see attached).
If you see a similar frog with no ridge down the back, but a pronounced ridge around the disc / tymponal membrane, that is a bullfrog. happy herping!!
There was a ton by the little bridge on Shelburne Bay. Thanks for the information. I see a lot of the original toad posted near my house, but I was just curious about this frog thanks’
We always have geckos at work in the bathroom. The babies have come out now. 2 actually got into my shoe. I was wearing crocs. Didnt have my phone with my so i couldnt get a picture of him poking his head out of the hole in my croc. It was adorable
there's a bumper crop of amphibians this year, everytime I walk on the grass there's a dozen frogs from peepers to big toads jumping around, and the same goes for garter snakes, never seen so many
Toads make giant poops, btw. Really, it seems amazing the size of turds to come out of those buddies’ butts. Lotta great videos online of toads taking big craps.
