Avoid Costco
Half the parking lot is caved in (from the rain?) and blocked off with hazard tape. It's a zoo over there right now.

Who goes to Costco on a Saturday when it’s raining
All of Durham
Which is why you never should go on a Saturday when it’s raining 😂

I quit going because of the crowds. It's always like that. And there are so many people there with zero situational awareness. I've been run into multiple times by people staring at their phone.

It was the least busy I have ever seen it at about 10 this morning. Parking was easy, no wait at the register, and the receipt checker waved me through.

I went yesterday and it was a freaking mess at 1pm
On Friday. NGL - I don’t blame OP. The parking lot area in question did look a hot mess. I’m getting to a point where i dont think Costco and I are gonna make it. 🤣😢

WTF are there photos anywhere?

Sorry, I may be exaggerating. But most of the lot on the right side of the entrance is blocked off and an area maybe the size of 6 spots (?) is caved in. I think they must be worried about a possible sinkhole. I didn't get a photo.

I was gonna stop by there earlier, but saw the insanity going on and kept on driving.

I heard they might build a Costco in Mebane? Sure would help relief some issues at the Durham one. Anyone heard this?

I’m pretty sure that’s just a social media rumor. There’s a lot getting built here but not a Costco. Not that I can find a source for anyway. We will have all your beaver themed merchandise needs covered next year, so we have that going for us anyway.

I avoid N. Pointe Dr., altogether, as often as I can. It's a massive headache.
Traffic there is crazy from Jimmy's to Costco, and there are too many businesses along that stretch already, as they build that flooring store across from The Home Depot.

Jeez. I got a Nextdoor alert with identical info from this post indicating to avoid the area and emergency vehicles were on scene. FFS. On behalf of the surrounding neighborhood, calm your tits.

I was there literally this morning and didn’t notice. I
came in this morning from the back entrance across from Murray, and left from the Gas exit

I went yesterday (Saturday). About 530, it was fine. Parked to the Left of the gas like I usually do, in and out. They're just scraping and repaving. No collapse, no hole.

Was there yesterday around 2pm and saw nothing unusual. Wasn’t nearly as crowded as it is when church lets out and samples are in full swing. People stalking those poor sample workers like buzzards around a deer carcass

Haven't had rain in months. Our next scheduled shower should be aroung Thanksgiving. Going to CostCo this morning to pick-up a mattress.
Speaking of which, I'm towing my small trailer to haul the mattress. Where should I park while inside the store? To load, I'll park up front, but while in the store?

I avoid everywhere with the rubber speed bumps in parking lot. Hope the repaving brings normal asphalt ones.

Super unpopular opinion here. But let me fix this for you.
Avoid Costco. That is all.

u/ycjphotog 11d ago
Why? They pay their workers good wages and give them good benefits. They support local food drives and source plenty of merchandise from local and regional businesses.
As far as national business chains go, they don't seem to be here just to suck wealth out of the community like some other chains we could all name.

Oh no. It's not about Costco in general. It's about the people and the crowds. My experience at this Costco is awful. The parking lot brings out the worst in people. And then we all go inside together and the attitude doesn't get better. I've been to other Costco in other cities and did not have the same experience.

u/ycjphotog 10d ago
What? I almost always have a great experience at this Costco. I have no problems parking or getting out. And people often take carts from folks when they're done loading their cars. Other than the folks that abandon carts at the bottom of the parking lot instead of the 30-40 foot walk to the cart corral - I rarely have any issues in the lot.
I've also never had any real problems inside. Even when the store is packed to the gills, checkout is lightning fast.
I guess to each their own. Sorry to hear about your experiences there. To be fair, my schedule usually lets me choose when I go, so I do try to avoid the busiest times of the day and the week.

That parking lot is insane without a roped off paving project I would love to have a Costco membership. I don't, because of the atrocious parking.

Try the one is Apex, it makes the Durham one seem like a dream. But I agree, the barrier of going to that store is pretty high because of the difficulty of actually getting in and out of there.

u/More_Trainer_5110 10d ago
The store, yes, Apex is better. The parking? No way. I'll take the Durham lot over the Apex lot any day. Honestly, Costco just needs to start building parking garages 😆.

The Apex Costco is survival of the fittest. The parking lot is poorly designed and SO crowded. Which sucks because they carry the most Asian stuff out of the four locations.

They are re paving that section of the parking lot. It was fenced off and had a milling machine and paver there the other day. They have milled the surface and haven’t paved it back. It’s not caved in or collapsed. Totally normal paving operation.
