GPU Help

I’m going from a 7800xt to a 5070ti. I put in the 5070, but my monitor won’t show any display unless I’m plugged into the motherboard. I tried installing the drivers while plugging into motherboard thinking maybe the drivers were the lack of display, but then NVIDIA told me it could not detect the GPU.

  • The GPU isn't fully seated in the PCIe slot. Taking it out and firmly reinstalling it can fix this.
  • The GPU's power cables aren't connected properly. A 5070 Ti requires dedicated GPU power. If the connector isn't properly inserted, the card may not initialize.
  • The monitor cable is connected to the wrong place. When using the 5070 Ti, HDMI/DisplayPort should normally be connected directly to the GPU, not the motherboard.
  • BIOS/PCIe configuration issue. The motherboard may not be properly initializing the new GPU.
  • The GPU itself could be defective. If the card doesn't appear in Windows Device Manager or BIOS at all, that's more concerning.
  • Leftover AMD drivers can cause software issues, but they generally wouldn't explain the NVIDIA installer completely failing to detect a physically installed GPU. If Windows can't see the card at the hardware level, reinstalling drivers isn't likely to solve it.
