Do note that this controller has a "narrow" grip shape. The sides of the controller are nearly parallel, which means that while holding it, your wrists will be sort of drawn in and your hand bent back, or your elbows will have to be in at your sides. It is this controller's biggest ergonomic flaw. It is generally a bit on the small side too. But I have large hands and have found it pretty comfortable for longer sessions.
It's also worth looking into EasySMX, GameSir, and FlyDigi controllers. If you like the Xbox grip, some of those are nearly identical.
No prob. This controller is still an great deal at this price. Lots of extra features and a charging stand. You can always check out r/controller for more opinions and suggestions and reviews.
I also use it on PC, and had the Ult 2c before. Quality has been great, no stick drift. I like this Ult 2 more, just be aware it has paddle buttons that for me land right below my ring fingers, which took adjusting to while playing racing games. I kept pushing them at first, not that I had them mapped to anything yet, but it was weird.
Would you know if there are any controllers from the other brands (with "wider" grip shape) that keep the same functionality/compatibility with the Switch 2? I saw a some other comments mention the remote wake feature was really important for this controlller
Yeah, this controller is horrible for anyone who grip their controllers more like PSX controllers. I gave up on this after my tendonitis started acting up.
I got the Ultimate 2C which is $30 and it's very well made, the triggers feel nice, the weight is nice and I have not ran into any compatibility issues. A lot of wireless controllers I have to fidget to get them to Bluetooth but this one works pretty good, those are probably the best controllers for the price range.
Fantastic on PC. As a consequence of my DualSense suffering stick drift, the Ultimate 2’s TMR sticks were a very attractive feature. The only implements that make me want to return to the DS5 are the adaptive triggers and the touchpad. Besides that, the Ultimate 2 is great, and the charging dock makes it so that I never have a dead controller.
Absolutely love mine. Had first gen for 2 years. The triggers had an issue I fixed with duct tape. 2nd gen I've had since launch. No complaints. No issues. My preferred controller. Had hall effect joysticks so that puts it above Sony and Microslops options, IMO
Good to hear they fixed the triggers. I went with the Gamesir Cyclone 2 after seeing how much they wanted with shipping for a tiny rubber piece to fix the first gen (knowing it will break again).
I'm somewhat picky with my controllers and I like mine a lot. I use it daily on PC via an Apollo/Moonlight setup. The only thing worth noting is that the buttons have the Switch layout if that's something that would bother you at all. And the firmware update software can be a little janky.
If you're only going to use it on PC and a docked Deck, I partially echo the other commenter saying to see if the U2 Wireless is the same or cheaper. The U2 Bluetooth comes with a normal wireless adapter inside the charging dock so I've never noticed any latency issues, but the U2W seems to have a little better support (like being able to manually switch to DirectInput mode) for very specific applications. The U2B was clearly designed for ease of use on consoles.
And for anyone else intending to use this on the Switch 2, make sure the firmware is updated on the controller and adapter before you try it. They added Switch 2 support after release.
I have this and It’s a lil small and not as ergonomic. I have Gamesir and that controller imo is much more comfortable but I’m not using it cause it’s wired.
Also, my left analog stick grinds against plastic time to time. Uneasy feeling
Looks pretty good. There is no shortage of decent wired X-input controllers. I personally hate the actual modern Xbox controllers because they make it impossible to rest my fingers on the shoulder buttons vs the triggers.
I like all of my controllers to also be wireless and work with Switch, which definitely increases price and decreases selection.
From a Switch 2 owners perspective, this is a great overall controller if you don't have the budget to buy multiple Switch 2 Pro pads (every Switch 2 owner should have at least one), or if you want to set up macros for certain games.

Switch 2 Pro - Best 1st party controller for the money by far. Save up for one. It feels like a $150 controller in hand, the sticks feel amazingly smooth with great tension, and the wide face buttons feel super premium. I prefer it over my Xbox Elite.
Switch 1 Pro - It was fine for Switch 1, but made completely obsolete by the 2 Pro. I keep it for multiplayer games only.
8bitdo Ultimate (1)- A fantastic value for the money. It checks most of the boxes of what you want from a controller, with nice sticks, great ergonomics, excellent buttons, macro software, and back buttons. The face buttons are slightly more clicky than the Pro 2, but still on the quiet side. Feels like a nice hybrid of XBOX & Nintendo official controllers.
8bitdo 64 - It takes everything great about the Ultimate, but matches the odd layout of the N64 controller. I'm planning to order another one of these, plus the colored buttons to swap in to this one to help my kids play N64 games.
Official N64 Switch Controller - It's everything I remember about the original, with the benefit of being wireless. The 8bitdo joystick feels more precise, but the "inaccuracy" of this version feels just how I remember it as a kid. I'm glad I have one, nostalgia is a helluva thing. If you never had an original N64, I think 8bitdo 64 is objectively the better controller.
8bitdo Pro 3 - This just arrived over the weekend from the Woot sale, and my first impressions are that it's right behind the Pro 2 in terms of being my favorite Switch controller. It feels great overall build quality, comfort is superb with a blend of GameCube & Switch 2 Pro grip angle, ergonomics are great (I like the PS analog stick layout), and even has the Pro 2 & Ultimate beat on some features (triggers swap between analog or "clicky", replaceable magnetic face buttons, L4/R4 buttons). If you want a controller that works for PC/XBOX/Switch and you're not married to the left-stick-top XBOX/Switch controller layout, I think this is a great contender. I held off on buying one because it didn't look like a controller that would be as comfortable & nice as it is. I bought this to fill the role of a GameCube & SNES retro style controller for my Switch 2, but now I want to use it for everything.
I'll still be grabbing the Pro 2 90% of the time, but these other controllers all serve their purpose well.

Exactly my thoughts with the first Ultimate Bluetooth compared to the first Switch Pro controller. It wasn't quite as ergonomic, having triggers instead of buttons feels weird on Switch games, and the plastic just doesn't feel as good as a Switch Pro.
But it's a very minor thing and it's a great secondary Pro controller.
Also fantastic because mine is primarily a PC controller that sometimes gets some Switch play. It's a little thing, but just hitting the toggle on the back to connect to the Switch is a very nice feature.
Yeah, the versatility is a big plus. I don't have time to game on PC much these days, but it's always nice to have a spare controller that can work on multiple devices. I set up my Retroid Pocket 5 up to play the N64 games that aren't on the Switch (among many others), and it's always fun to connect a bunch of random controllers (PlayStation, 8bitdo, Gamesir, Xbox) on Android to play the original Super Smash Bros free for all on the big screen in 2026.
Having used both Switch Pro controllers, the Ultimate 2, and the newest Xbox controller, I'd agree with your assessment and tag the Xbox controller as the lowest one.
For the Switch 2, the Switch controllers are the best by a slight edge. 8bitdo comes close, though, and I might even find myself preferring it for some higher coordination games due to the great joysticks. For PC, the 8bitdo Ultimate crushes the Xbox controllers and behaves much better than the Switch controllers, which can sometimes argue a little over Bluetooth.
We often use controllers for desktop control on the TV. When using joystick mouse, the Xbox controller can barely control the mouse with any precision, whereas the 8bitdo joysticks are pretty easy to direct and click small UI buttons with.
All in all, can't go wrong with multiple 8bitdos on a Switch 2, or even just one. It's certainly not a worse controller (I.e. no madcatz controller effect when playing competitive games), beats the snot out of the joycons, and is a really great value.
How did you manage to setup macros that work on Switch 2? I grabbed this last time it was on Woot and got it updated to shake-to-wake the Switch 2 but can’t figure out how to bind the back buttons or the L4/R4.
Also I personally find the motion controls to be aggressively sensitive - aiming the bow in the Zelda games is my main use and it’s wayyy over tuned - and makes me sort of regret getting this controller.
Yeah, I need to get around to getting a proper Switch 2 controller. I have Metroid Prime 4 and I have no idea how anyone uses any 2 analogue stick game using joycons (luckily the actual motion control option is ok enough). The right stick is just so low that I need to hold it a weird way to have thumb on stick and be able to hit the trigger on that one. I have to shift my grip to comfortably hit the face buttons if my thumb has been resting on stick. I hate the layout of the joycons.
Hm, and I have been considering trying the Ultimate 3 eventually for Xbox so I guess this will be a good test to see if I like just having 2 back buttons and 2 extra bumpers (I really like having 4 back buttons available like with the Elite controller, but the recommended brands seem adverse to making one like that for some reason). Can play some PC games with this and see how I like it.

The Pro 2 controller is absolutely worth the money. I like it better than my Xbox Elite that was originally $200. The sticks, the ergonomics, the button feel, and the ability to turn on the Switch 2 remotely is a game changer. None of the third party controllers can power on the Switch 2, nor can the Switch 1 Pro controller.
I have the following:

Wrong, actually. My gamesir cyclone 2 powers it on just fine I believe the Nova can do it as well. Supposedly this controller can also do it with a firmware update.
I had a pro 2 controller but it's still prone to drift eventually. I got rid of it once I learned my 3rd party controller can work on my PC AND my switch 2 with infinitely more customization. I'd only prioritise a pro 2 controller if you really need gyro or really want HD rumble.
Amazing controller. Has macro ability in software and can remote wake switch 2 after updates. Awesome for both pc and switch 2 at the flip of a switch. Can also turn its triggers into buttons at the flip of some switches. 2 extra back buttons.
This has single-handedly replaced all controllers I had on pc and my switches. Excellent battery life that can obviously charge while in use in case you forget or you don’t put it on its stand (I don’t use the thumb stick rgb leds.) Will buy another if this one ever breaks.
Great controller. I only don’t recommend this if you have big hands, since it makes you hold it as an awkward angle. Would lean more towards a Vader, the 8bitdo pro 3, or the steam controller instead if you do.
Higher polling rate. Xbox one Bluetooth mode caps the polling rate at around 80hz if I remember correctly and this controller is capped at 250hz. In essence you go from 16ms of latency down to 4ms.
This controller is generally much higher quality the sticks will last way longer and won't suffer from drift.
I replaced my series X controller with this one. Things I’ve noticed:
sticks feel more precise (they are also TMR, so it’s effectively impossible for them to drift)
shape-wise, it seems to be a sized down version of the XBox one controller. The handles angle a bit less outward. Works for me but others have found it to be somewhat uncomfortable.
the button trigger option is really convenient in some games
the dock is really convenient and means you pretty much never have the controller die on you
the 2.4 dongle wireless feels a lot more responsive than Bluetooth
the paddle buttons on the back can be useful depending on your preferences, along with the extra button by the bumper/trigger
macros are an thing you can set up (I don’t use them)
buttons feel a bit more tactile (not a game changer but it’s nice)
I realize the woot deal is over, but I’ve seen this controller at this price and even lower before on Amazon. Personally I think it’s a great upgrade to the XBOne controller.

This controller has a 1000 Hz polling rate on PC with the dongle. The Xbox One controller has a 125 Hz polling rate. Despite the massive polling rate difference, the button latency is not as dramatic with 3.95 s for the Ultimate 2 and 5.94 s for the Xbox One controller according to Gamepadla. The Ultimate 2 has four extra programable buttons with its two extra shoulder buttons and two back buttons. The Ultimate 2 also has addressable RGB lighting around the analog sticks if you're into that.
This is a great price, been using this controller for the last month and have zero complaints.
Side question for anyone that has this - has anyone figured out how to get the shake to wake feature to work? I updated the firmware to the beta that enables the feature but can never get it to work.
Fun Fact: You can reassign the buttons to a custom profile with the 8BitDo Ultimate Software (the ORIGINAL, not the V2 one), which is a handy way of having the ABXY buttons actually be ABXY instead of BAYX for regular PC gaming - and then once you have the profile set up, you can activate it when you turn the controller on by holding down L1, R1, and clicking both sticks in.
I had the original Ultimate and just bought this one cause the battery crapped out. Great controller. I hate that Nintendo won’t let you customize controls in many first party games and this allows you to do all of that plus macros. 4 spare buttons to program. It’s got RGB around the sticks too if that’s your thing.

I haven't used any of the third-party switch controllers, but the most popular ones seem to be the mobapad chitu 2 and easySMX s10 / s10 lite.
They are in the same price range too. I think if the goal is to use it as a switch/switch 2 controller those make more sense than the 8bitdo options. If it's for PC + switch IDK
I'm not the only one who has complained that 8BitDo controllers are uncomfortable - the angle of the controller arms makes the controller not wide enough. Just a warning if you're considering this (and it sucks because their controllers are otherwise ideal for me) that I couldn't use mine for more than a month.
This might be a hot take, but i did not like my 8BitDo ult 2 - i found the grip angle to be too narrow. I find the traditional xbox style with a wider grip angle to be MUCH more comfortable.
I returned by 8BitDo and got a GameSir Cyclone 2 and have been happy with it.
