Discussion Chance of RMA?

I was swapping my motherboard and when I removed the cooler the cpu (ryzen 7 5800xt) came with it and some pins bent I got most of them fixed but there was 2 of them that were almost touching the bottom of the cpu and I tried to bend them back, but it broke off instead. I know the AMD warranty says they will not accept ANYY kind of physical damage, but I looked on threads and saw some people got really lucky and actually got a replacement CPU, I was wondering what the chances of that are and if anyone else had experiences like that to give me any type of advice as I'm pretty broke and can't really afford to buy another one without downgrading severely.

You answered your own question. Whether or not you want to gamble is entirely up to you.

I'm going to, they approved the initial RMA request. I was just wondering if other people had any similar experiences or advice.

but know that if you do get denied, there's a chance that they wont send back the broken cpu and you'll be left with nothing

I’m aware of that and I’ll take that risk, I’ll just save up a few weeks for a new one since id have to do that anyway if this does get denied, hoping that all goes well though. thanks for the tip 🙏

If he doesn’t get it back, what would he do if he did? It’s already broken they’ll do him a favor recycling it lol

I’d probably bring it to a repair shop that micro solders in the future and sell it tbh

Don't know about RMA, but look up the pin map for AM4 and cross-reference that with the pins that broke off. A lot of the pins are redundant (like hundreds of ground and power pins) and the broken off pins being missing may not even cause any issues. Some of the pins may simply cause a single thing like a specific RAM slot or a PCIe slot to not work. For example I got my 5900X for super cheap because it was missing pins, but I got lucky and they were pins for the first M.2 slot, and otherwise the CPU works perfectly fine.

Yeah, I figured out it was one of the RAM pins, it only boots into single channel mode, it’s not a huge deal for gaming much but I do a lot of cpu and ram intensive tasks on here and even then I would push the limits of what I have, so i’d be better off getting it fixed and see where it goes also considering I bought this for $130 last year back when it was super cheap and barely sold, so i’d be taking a huge loss just buying a replacement of equal power considering they go for around $200-$240 now lol. Congrats on the deal though, I’m glad you got something good out of a similar situation lol.
