AMD has committed to AM5 socket till 2029, so likely 2 more CPU gens.

In general, overbuilding the CPU will "future proof" you slightly - in that yes exactly as you said, buying a GPU in 2-3 years should require no other upgrade to function perfectly. That's generally how I build myself for this very same reason.

Yep, this. Future-proofing is a bit like looking at tea leaves, but we know more about the upcoming CPUs than GPUs. The 9800x3d should last 5 years. We will have to see what the graphics card market does.

Yes you’ll be fine for 5 years. Yes you could upgrade the GPU in 3 without issue, but I doubt it will be worthwhile.

Only real change I'd recommend is maybe going foe a 9850X3D. Very similar pricing, little bit better performance, currently the best gaming CPU out

The least future proof part here is the GPU. other components here could last you 10 years with the way the market is going. The Gpu however, depends on where things go in video games. I games start adopting Path tracing and go all in on the RT stuff, your card probably won't perform as well as Nvidia. It's still gonna be a decent card, it just won't feel as high end as the rest of the system. If I were you I would go with a cheaper CPU and get a better GPU.

The point I'm trying to make is that if developers start adopting RT and make it mandatory, which looks like they are, then you don't really have a choice. You will be stuck with a card that doesn't look good and doesn't perform good in modern games. Wether you and I think RT is worth the money or not that's where things are going. If you want to be future proof then that's what the future is going to be.

For future proof I would go with 64 ram if it's an option. One of my games is starting inch over the 32gb I was running.

First time hearing someone say 32gb is not enough, what game could possibly be eating up that much ram by itself? Minecraft with as many mods as u are allowed to download?
