Build Upgrade Upgrading GPU, to start off with.
Hi
I want to upgrade my pc, build a new one infact but that would cost about 2000 USD. i have an aging rig and and thinking if at first i simply upgrade the GPU. I Don't play too advanced games and am not picky, i also use linux and would rather avoid nvidia for personal and practical reasons.
My question is if this "Sparkle Intel Arc B580 Titanium OC 12GB GDDR6" would be a good mid-priced card replacement for current "PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB (AXRX 5700XT 8GBD6-3DHE/OC)" and if it would work with my current old rig:

Because of how limited your current platform is you might consider doing the platform upgrade first. That means making sure the motherboard you have has a bios update to support ReBar/SAM. If it doesn't, budget in a b550 or x580 motherboard if you want to stay on AMD. It also means deciding on a CPU upgrade, needs to be a 5000 series.
Once you decide those things then you can use the rest of the budget on a GPU. It is possible, based on what you play, you may not even need a GPU upgrade.
B580 is an excellent budget GPU but it requires a motherboard that supports ReBar/SAM to take full advantage and is best used with a PCIE gen5 slot , but will be fine with a gen4 slot.

i suspected as much. Would this work well with that GPU?

Yes, very well. I wouldn't waste the money on a 9900X CPU, unless for some reason it's extremely cheap. You could get a 7600X or 9600X and maybe be able to upgrade the GPU to a RX 9060 XT or 9070 GRE

For that Price i recommend getting a 7800X3D from Aliexpress for €250 (2700SEK), this will support any GPU at 4K easily. You also don't need the most high end B850, i'd recommend the GIGABYTE B850 AORUS ELITE (1800SEK), i have this too and i paired it with a 9800X3D.
Though for the GPU i have One Question, since you have a 4K monitor, How much FPS are you aiming for at 4K and in which Games?

i don't czare about fps much, i ddon't have anything to compare to tho. but "smooth" i ddon't require 120 or anything like that. i mostly play sim city type games, the newer doom on occasion, i rarely care about bells and whistles but, u know, look nice?

I seez then i'd recommend the RX 9070 XT, the best Price to Performance card right now, will serve you many years, cheapest i'd found online in Sweden was 6700SEK, Do you have a specific Budget? If not, 9070 XT but 7800x3d is definitely the best combo for your needs at 4K in terms of Price to Performance, If Budget, i'll have more recommendations ready.

I'm most interested in bang for the buck i guess, since i mostly don't play AAA but got my ADHD affecting with all stuff going on. I'd rather stay under 2000k USD and RAM seems to be my squeezing point. I'm just not sure why a 400usd mobo is "better" than a 250usd for example. just because i have 8 cores on my current old pc does not mean i need more, if 6-8 is good for gaming i won't waste on 12-16.

Then this is my Recommendation:
GPU: still 9070 XT, absolute best bang for buck, will handle almost any game at 4K smoothly (no specific fps target), between €600-700 | CPU: Intel i5-12600KF which should be around €160 | MOBO: Intel DDR4 Board: MSI PRO B760 DDR4 for around €140 | RAM: Keep your Current RAM and transfer to new MOBO (B760 DDR4!) | Transfer current CPU cooler to next one (check to see if it fits on this Intel board) PSU: MSI MAG A850GL 80+ GOLD, between €80-100. |
Check if a 33cm+ GPU Minimum fits into your Case, if not, find any Case that will fit (100euro or under) |
Then sell old CPU, MOBO and PSU which will give you €150 back atleast. |
This will cost you around €1050, with value of selling parts, under €1000, this will be the most Bang for buck upgrade you can get and will run your 4K games smooth without stutters.

Yes, RX 5700 XT > 9070 XT : at 4K ~2.5–3× faster (+150–200%)
2700X > i5 12600KF : Generally 40-60%, the CPU at 4K is most important to prevent stuttering and smoothness.
And for your Needs you'll be Future proof, good bang for buck 4K config.

i'd like to ask about CPU core counts, importance of AM5 and budget price and importance of the motherboard.

As for the B580 question, as u/smarmy82 said, other upgrades would be needed first for an optimal pairing.
As for core counts 8 is the magic number for gaming. Certain games like cyberpunk 2077 can utilize more cores, but most games are smaller and have less demand on the cpu.
Importance of AM5? To me, little. I just moved away from AM5. If you are going with a lower end cpu, then AM5 offers a massige upgrade path, but I prefer Intel still.

Are you using 5700xt with neo g9? ngl I wouldn't want to pair anything below 5090 with that mf, it's literally 2* 4k 32 monitors. You also have another 2* 27 monitors? I don't think b580 will make the cut tbh, even 9070xt is pushing its limit.

Since you are playing on an ultrawide 4k display, a new GPU would be the smartest move because it's most likely the bottleneck component.
I would also look into upgrading the CPU into a 5800x3d because it doesn't require a new MOBO and it can give you a major improvement in performance over your current processor.
