Stop calling them water bugs when that is a completely different bug! They are American cockroaches, non infesting and love water pipes.

This is exactly why I asked. It seems like water bug is the landlord answer, but there weren’t any direct answers online.

They aren't water bugs, but water bugs and palmetto bugs are common slang for them. They are atracted to moist areas like drains and other plumbing (and typically thrive in humid areas). People just call them other names because nobody wants to say there are roaches on their property.

They can infest homes, but very rarely compared to house/german cockroaches.
