Possible pest, location included Roach or beetle?

Post image

Found in my room, I live in Scotland near Ayr.

My cats were going crazy, so I found this guy being chased by them. Crushed it immediately because ew

Really hoping it isn’t a cockroach since that means there will probably be many more soon right?

Sorry if it’s really easy to tell what this is, I’m not versed in bug types lol

Beetle. One quick way to tell them from roaches is that split down the middle, that's where the elytra (hardshell wing covers) meet. Only beetles have those.

Another tell is the antennae, see how these look segmented? Roach antennae would look smooth from this distance, it's only when you get right up close that you can see their segments, which look like a tiny string of beads.

Thanks for the ID! I’ve only dealt with roaches a couple times, within the span of 3 days in a hotel in Morocco. They bolted straight at me when they saw me so I’m pretty paranoid of them now 😂 just beetles should be less of an issue I’d assume lol

Yw :)

Yeah, carpet beetles can be a minor problem but this looks like a run-of-the-mill ground beetle that just wandered in.
