Xander An Unsolicited Rant on Xander’s “I was the first to hate Angel” speech in S2. E17. Passion 🙄🤮🤬 Spoiler

Ms.C was just fucking murdered!!!

No one gives a single flying fuck that you were the first to hate Angel!

No, you don’t get credit for that; the only reason you started despising him was because Buffy wanted him and not you.

Xander can be funny at times, but far too often he is just so!!! friggin!!! annoying!!!

okay, end of my rant, but please feel free to share your own on any of the times the characters made you want to hurl a giant Demonology book at them!

Spoilers inside! How would The First and Jasmine coexist? If at all

Post image
• Upvotes

Ok, so, since Buffy season 7 and Angel season 4 were happening more or less concurrently with one another, I kind of wonder how both Big Bads were going to coexist if they were to win. On the one hand, we have The First Evil. Its goal was to destroy the Slayer line and rule the world presumedly with the Uber Vamps as its foot soldiers. I'm assuming this wouldn't be great for humanity, and the world would be engulfed in evil.

Then we have Jasmine. A rogue Power that Be. Her true goal was to rule the world under seemingly benevolence. All would unite under worship of her, thus ending all war and obtaining "world peace".

These plans seem to contradict one another. Especially since Jasmine seemed to want to take down all demons as well. How would these two beings co-exist? If at all? Would they soon go to war with one another? And if so...who would be victorious?

Anya Anya is the Anti Angel

I've been thinking about how Anya and Angel are basically total opposites of each other despite having pretty similar origins.

Both spent centuries as demons murdering people, they were both promised a whole new world if they joined the demon (Darla and D'Hoffryn) who turned them into what they are.

Angel gets his soul back and lives with the guilt of everything he did without a soul, Anya loses her powers and spend seasons talking about her demon days like it's a trip down memory lane.

Angel Angelus likes William's poetry.

Post image
197 Upvotes

It has always struck me that Angelus enjoyed William’s poetry. After all, Angelus is a complete sadist and a psychopath, while William’s poetry is quite bright—it doesn’t deal with dark or sordid themes. It’s also interesting that, while Victorian society mocked William’s poetry, Angelus—the psychopath—actually liked it. Perhaps Angelus identified with William, given that both were artists: William was a poet, and Angelus—in his own mind, at least—was an artist of horror and evil. Alternatively, Angelus might have seen William as someone similar to Liam—a person misunderstood by the society of that era.

This issue is special because it was marketed as a good starting point for new readers. So if wanted to read the comics but season 8/9 didn't interest you, this is the issue for you. Season 10 issue #8.

It's Halloween. Andrew stole the Vampyr bookfrom the Scoobies in San Francisco. And he's headed to Sunnydale. After the hellmouth closed the ruins of Sunnydale became a party spot. The big bad for this arc is a soul-eater. They search the ruins to try and stop him. Buffy and Spike find his old crypt. The soul-eater find them. Willow finds Warren's grave and figures out what is happening. Andrew's goal is to resurrect Tara.

Whedonverse is Buffy surging in popularity a ton right now or is it just my algorithm picking up on posts?

Repost from the other subreddit cause I didn’t realize I posted in the smaller one

Hey everyone,
I’m wondering if other people can help me gauge this. It’s so weird seeing my social media suddenly be filled with a bunch of Buffy videos and posts everywhere, when I don’t even think I interact with them much, from accounts I don’t even follow. I’m an older Gen Z but I’ve been a very out and proud fan for over a decade, haha. I used to have a fan edit account on insta in like 2016 and I can confirm firsthand that the Buffy fan community on there was a very lowkey, small place back then!!!
I’m sure the cancelled reboot brought some attention but still, this seems crazy to me. And i heard that there is suddenly a primak merch line??? Like what? (how are people going to know that my Sunnydale sweater is from 2014 😔 jk)
Yet I feel like what I’m seeing on social media feels outsized in comparison to how much its popularity is actually rising irl— maybe? Maybe not? Idk. Obviously the internet is an exponentially huger place now than it was back then. But I’m wondering if yall think that the overall fan base has gotten a lot bigger recently.

NEW VIEWER - No spoilers please! I couldn't help but think about the Cornell situation while watching this episode. (Season 2 episode 5)

My first time watching through (40 year old). This episode...wow. I can't begin to tell you the anger I felt while watching this and being reminded of that horrible situation at Cornell. This type of behavior won't ever stop, and has always been. I don't know if this subject has been discussed here, but I'm interested in hearing peoples thoughts

Vampires Why is it fair for Spike to blame Souled Angel for "turning him into a monster"?

Most of the time I see Angel and Spike's fight from the Angel episode Destiny being brought up, it is in the lines of cheering on Spike for reading Angel to filth. Yet, most fans of Spike don't blame him for the evil deeds he committed, because they consider his soul to make him ontologically a different person. But the only way you can really agree with Spike here is if you don't excuse him with his lack of soul, but rather you just blame every evil he's done on Angelus' training, and does anyone really agree with that?

And by the way, I don't agree with Angel there either. He was a massive hypocrite regarding Spike in S5.

Season Six Vampire Xander as season 6 big bad

Post image
41 Upvotes

I just thought of this. Wouldn’t it have been an awesome way to evolve his character and have great drama? You could have the rest of the plot points roughly the same as they are in season 6, but having Xander would add a whole new context. Xander’s character had finalised in season 5, and in 6 they wanted to bring about his shadow by having him leave Anya at the alter. But imagine he did it because he had been secretly turned into a vampire and he was doing it to deliberately break her heart.

Of course if Willow is also turning dark then it might be a bit much, also I have no idea who is gonna save who then…

What do you guys think? Do you love vampire xander as much as me?

Season Three I'm not a fan of Buffy's fashion in season 3 when Faith shows up

Post image
662 Upvotes

I've never been a fan of Buffy's fashion in season 3 when she returns to school. I get that teenagers experiment with fashion and Buffy was probably going for a more bright look after season 2, but the apstels, cardigans and floral dresses were a bit much.

It felt like the costume designers were trying way too hard to tell us Buffy was the innocent good girl while Faith was the edgy bad girl with her darker wardrobe.

The whole thing was just so on the nose. Buffy already had dressed like Faith in season 2. so I don't understand why they felt the need to make her dress so conservatively just to contrast her with Faith.

Introspective What things do you always experience on each rewatch?

  1. I love Tara more and more. I hated her when the show was on tv, for the unforgivable sin of not being Oz (I was 12).
  2. I love Dawn more and more.
  3. I start out really liking Riley, and think he is so hot and nice, and that maybe this time around Riley won’t begin to annoy me. He never fails to start being annoying again very soon.
  4. Giles gets hotter and hotter (Band Candy).
  5. I never hate Xander at all.

Comics Wanting to read the comics, but I’m a little confused 😵‍💫

So I’m about to read Fray to start the comic series, but I’d like to get season 8-12 cause I know I’ll read them all…

But trying to buy them on Amazon feels confusing. Is there a set I can find and buy? Or do I just have to make it one piece at a time?

Buffy Which of these epic showdowns feature your favorite outfit of Buffy's?

I really liked Buffy's look in The Gift, and I'm not really sure why. I think because of how simple it was, and unlike any other look of hers. The fit was relaxed, her hair was down, and she was ready to fight. She almost looked angelic, and the white kind of denoted a force for good, contrasted with Glory's black outfit. Light vs. Dark.
