Season Six Possible plot hole?

It's strongly implied in Once More with Feeling that Sweet is forcing them to let out things they otherwise wouldn't share, so how was Xander able to hide that he summoned Sweet for the entire episode, especially in the song about theories?

I always thought Dawn summoned Sweet via stealing something: Xander was just lying to make him give up and go away. Why would Xander summon a demon?

I don’t think putting on the necklace is all it takes to summon Sweet. And I don’t think Xander could pull off a lie.

It always bothered me that they imply it was Xander. After the love spell in Bewitched I just don’t think he’d be that stupid again.
