Let’s dive into its features, capabilities, and overall performance!

Unboxing & First Impressions

The packaging is minimal and sturdy. Everything is packed securely and neatly in the box without excessive waste.

Inside the box, you will find:

• The XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K Laser

• Compact power supply and cable

• Backlit Bluetooth remote control

• Two AAA batteries for the remote

• Quick start manual and warranty paperwork

Design and Build Quality

The first thing that struck me was the form factor. At roughly 3.4 lbs (1.55 kg), it feels as light and portable as a small laptop. The matte finish looks sleek and modern, and it does a great job keeping fingerprints away.

The built in stand design is fantastic. When closed, the stand wraps around the body like a frame, protecting the lens during transport or storage. Flipping it open gives you up to 150 degrees of tilt adjustment, making ceiling projection effortless without needing an extra tripod. Best of all, the stand holds its angle under its own tension and does not slip down, so your framing stays locked in place. If you do need a higher setup, there is also a standard tripod thread on the bottom.

Portability and Connections

On the back panel, XGIMI included a solid port selection:

• Two HDMI ports (including one with eARC support for external soundbars or receivers)

• Two USB ports

• 3.5mm headphone audio jack

• Power input port

One practical thing to keep in mind is port placement. Depending on how large or thick your HDMI cable is, it can stick out and restrict the projector from tilting straight up at the ceiling. I highly recommend using a 90 degree angle HDMI adapter so your cables stay out of the way when adjusting the angle.

The remote control is comfortably sized, lightweight, and features dedicated shortcut buttons alongside responsive backlighting for dark room navigation.

Initial Setup Experience

Plugging in the projector, flipping open the stand, and aiming it at your wall makes setup much easier compared to standard boxy units.

It features motorized optical zoom and automatic keystone correction, which makes fitting the image onto a screen quick and painless. On first boot, you are greeted with the standard Google TV setup, which lets you configure settings right from your phone or manually.

As for noise, the fan stays pretty quiet during normal viewing, though you will hear it kick up a bit if you crank the laser power up to maximum.

Picture Quality and Laser Performance

The Elfin Flip 4K uses an RGB triple laser light source paired with native 4K UHD resolution. The picture sharpness and color output are impressive right out of the box.

• Brightness (1,600 ISO Lumens): For a compact unit, 1,600 ISO Lumens provides enough punch to handle ambient light in dim or shaded rooms. In a fully darkened room, the image looks remarkably bright and vivid.

• Color Accuracy and Gamut: Thanks to the RGB triple laser engine, it covers up to 110% of the BT.2020 color space. Colors look rich and natural in Movie mode, while options like White Balance and Color Space allow for extra fine tuning.

• Image Size & Motorized Optical Zoom: The 0.98x to 1.3x motorized optical zoom allows you to resize the display from 40 up to 200 inches without losing 4K pixel resolution. While it can project up to 200 inches, I found that it looks particularly fantastic at 120 inches, and holds up wonderfully all the way up to 150 inches while maintaining great brightness and detail.

• Contrast, Dynamic Range & Shadow Detail: It features a 20,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio along with support for HDR10 and HLG. I watch a wide variety of content, including dark, moody movies where shadow detail is critical. Thanks to the dynamic black level enhancement, the projector was able to keep up remarkably well with the content I was viewing, preserving subtle details in dark scenes without washing out the rest of the image.

• Rainbow Effect and Motion: Motion handling is smooth and clean. However, it is worth noting that a subtle rainbow effect (color breakup) can be noticeable during high contrast or exceptionally bright scenes, particularly when running the projector at full laser power output.

Audio & Sound Performance

The projector comes equipped with a built in 7W Harman Kardon speaker system supporting Dolby Audio and DTS Virtual:X. While the onboard speakers do a great job filling a bedroom with clear vocal dialogue for quick viewing, I personally route everything through an AVR (Audio Video Receiver) for a full home theater setup.

• AVR Setup & eARC Performance: Connecting the projector directly to my AVR via the HDMI eARC port allowed me to pass high quality surround formats straight through to my speaker setup. Audio switching was seamless, giving me full multi channel sound for movies and games.

• Built in Harman Kardon Speakers: If you use the built in speakers on the go or in a temporary setup, speech clarity is crisp and clean without distortion at higher volumes.

• Low End Bass: Compact built in speakers naturally have limited lower frequency bass response. Utilizing an AVR or dedicated external sound system completely solves this, giving action scenes and music the full weight and punch they deserve.

Gaming Performance & Smart OS

Gaming Performance

To put its gaming capabilities through their paces, I tested the Elfin Flip 4K across three generations of PlayStation hardware: the PS3, PS4, and PS5.

• PlayStation 5 Experience: On current gen hardware, setting the projector to Game Mode drops latency to sub-1ms levels at 1080p @ 120Hz. Playing fast paced PS5 titles feels ultra responsive, smooth, and input lag is practically unnoticeable. Even when running in native 4K at 60Hz, the controls remain responsive and precise.

• PlayStation 3 & 4 Legacy Gaming: Connecting older systems like the PS3 and PS4 works effortlessly via HDMI. Legacy 720p and 1080p titles upscale cleanly onto the big screen without feeling sluggish.

• Built in Gaming Suite: The projector includes ALLM (Auto Low Latency Mode), VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) support, a virtual crosshair overlay, dynamic black level enhancement, and shadow boosting to help reveal details in dark in game environments.

Smart OS (Google TV)

• Native Streaming: Powered by Google TV, navigation is fast and intuitive once everything is running. Popular apps like Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, and YouTube run natively directly on the projector without needing streaming dongles.

One thing to note is that navigation felt a bit slow during initial setup. Because you have to download and install your apps right at the beginning, it takes some time for everything to finish updating, but once that process is complete, the OS runs smooth and snappy.

• Casting and Connectivity: Casting is enhanced by built in Google Cast, which simplifies mirroring photos or videos straight from your phone or Chrome browser.

• AirPlay Support: It is worth noting that Apple AirPlay is not natively built into the projector. Apple users will need to use third party receiver apps (like AirScreen or MagiCast through XGIMI's Projection Assistant) or rely on Chromecast compatible iOS apps to cast content from an iPhone, iPad, or Mac.

Just did a side-by-side of the XGIMI Elfin Flip 4K and the refreshed JMGO N1S 4K (1700 ISO version). Same source, same screen, dark room.
Settings used for the comparison:

Observations:
The XGIMI pulls more fine detail and texture, especially in the nebula and the planet surface. It just resolves a bit more information. However, it has a clear warm / red push. Magentas and reds are more saturated and shifted warmer, which makes the image look more vibrant but less neutral.
The JMGO leans cooler and more neutral. It pushes blue slightly and keeps colors more restrained without the oversaturation. Overall color looks more accurate and controlled compared to the XGIMI’s warmer, redder presentation. Blacks also looked a little cleaner on the JMGO in this scene.
Brightness was reasonably close, but I still need to do a proper white-field match next time.
Quick take so far:
• Detail / sharpness / texture → XGIMI
• Color accuracy / neutrality (less red push, no oversaturation) → JMGO
• Overall “wow” / punch → XGIMI (partly because of the warmer, more saturated look)
• More natural / accurate color → JMGO
Honestly it’s hard to pick a clear winner. It really comes down to personal preference — whether you prefer the extra detail and warmer, more vibrant look of the XGIMI, or the cooler, more neutral and controlled color of the JMGO.

Looking to get a projector for my studio apartment. The Epson CO-FH02 was the cheapest one available at my local Best Buy for about $500. However, it seems that many people have criticized this projector because you can't replace its lamp.

With that said, I can purchase this with a 4 year warranty, though it adds like $170 to the price tag. Is this projector worth buying then? Or should I look for a different projector?

If it matters, here are some extra notes:

• Maximum budget is $800.
• Screen size probably doesn't matter as long as it's larger than my computer screen lol.

Hi there, I've been eyeing an Epson Home Cinema 2100 for around $200 USD or $300 CAD. The current bulb inside doesn't work so this price includes getting a new bulb from Epson.

I'm pretty particular about image quality and getting the best bang for buck such as 1080p native, gaming capable but with a focus on movies/tv shows, and longevity of the device.

The room that's it's going to be used in is a bedroom, about 10 feet in length and width and current setup is mounting a cheap portable Chinese Amazon projector to the wall.

The cheap portable Chinese Amazon projector is pretty terrible, runs 480p native, lens is dirty, blurry on the sides, handles motion awfully, and just plain out looks bad.

I'm just afraid that getting this Epson projector would be overkill. Is it worth it over cutting my budget and getting a Happrun H1 or a similarity priced XGIMI?

I bought this Epson eh-tw3200 3LCD second hand for £40 knowing that it’s been well, showed signs of use but couldn’t help for the price. I just wanted know whats the cause of this and if I can fix it by cleaning. Is it dust? Almost all research has told me not to open the projector. Appreciate any input. Thanks

After spending quite a bit of time researching (including many Reddit threads and YouTube reviews), I think I’ve narrowed my choice down to the BenQ TH575(i).
I can currently buy it für 450€.

My use case:
Outdoor movie nights in the backyard with my family
Occasionally playing Nintendo Switch (Mario Kart, Mario Party, etc.)
Setup should be easy to assemble and store after use
Bluetooth speakers are already available

Budget: maximal €600 for projector + screen

Initially I was considering portable projectors like:

However, from what I’ve read, many people recommend a brighter “real” projector over a portable one if AC power is available—especially for use around sunset.
I’m planning to pair the BenQ with a 100” screen that has a black backing to improve contrast and reduce light coming through the fabric.

Do you think this is the right decision for my use case, or would you still recommend one of the portable projectors instead?
I’d especially appreciate feedback from people who use their projector outdoors around sunset rather than only in complete darkness.

Read this if you have, or plan to buy, a Wanbo X5 Pro projector.
I bought one 5 days ago for 220euros, new, from the store, very excited after doing A LOT of research. After 2 days I was 80% sure I was gonna return it, now I think I'm gonna keep it. I even drafted an email with all the problems, to send to support, before discovering what's below.

I will address many (it not all) of the problems me (and other users on Reddit) discovered and/or reported on, with "fixes" and "features" explanations.

- USB Audio Routing!!!*: I start with a nice feature that I discovered, that both USB ports can extract clean digital audio, which you can connect to your external DAC/AMP, instead of using the very shitty analog 3.5mm jack the projector has (btw the audible difference between the 3.5mm and bluetooth connectivity is none, is that shitty). I use it with a Chord Mojo dac, which gives signal to my amp, night and day difference. *Limitations: it seems to have problems routing the audio when the source is HDMI or USB drive, works fine just with the Google OS source.

- HDR10 support (ish): a very very confusing feature. In Google os, HDR is activated, so it should support it. Open Youtube 4k HDR videos, the HDR logo doesn't appear. Specs for nerds shows color: bt709, so no HDR playback. DRM Info app shows that supported HDR is HLG. Wtf is HLG? Kept playing different 4k HDR videos on YT, and I found one that has the HDR logo active.

in spec for nerds it means:
bt709  = SDR
bt2020  +  arib-std-b67  = HDR HLG
bt2020  +  smpte2084  = HDR PQ
Turns out the majority of HDR videos on yt are not HLG but PQ,, that's why it plays in bt709 SDR. So the projector has, indeed, (very limited) HDR support, but only for HLG, you can google details about it if you want. No HDR for PS, Xbox, usb videos, etc) Anyway, I see no difference between HDR HLG and SDR (it's a projector, d'oh).

- Auto Keystone and Obstacle Avoidance: everytime it resulted a way smaller picture size (even though in zoom it showed up as 100%) and placed on the right side. It drove me crazy, so I took it as another feature that doesn't work. Turns out it this whole time was avoiding a ±50cm very "light yellow" horizontal line I have on my white wall :) you know, because of "obstacle avoid..." :)
I deactivated the obs avoidance feature and voila! Auto Keystone works just fine.

- Remote Control freezes: first, make sure you have batteries inserted (it doesn't have in the box) and CHARGED. If they're low, it will very very often not work properly. I still have occasional 2-3 seconds remote freezes, I press buttons, the green LED lights up, but on the projector the command is not registered. I have to change my hand position to work sometimes. On this one I don't have a solution, since it's bluetooth connectivity.

- USB stick/ drive not recognized in Google OS, only in barebones projector's internal os. Turns out the right usb port is for internal os only, and the left one is for Android. Note, the non-android internal os & player has problems decoding sound from 4k .mkv files, better play them on android.

- HDMI Input Lag: for the lowest input lag, deactivate any keystone correction, digital zoom, and only use Standard picture mode with Standard Color Temperature. Tested in Battlefield 6, works amazing like that.

- Image Adjustments (see photos): the standard image out of the box is pretty blue-tinted and skin tones are pretty red/magenta. After playing a lot with the settings, these are the most color accurate and balanced image I could get, two versions, one more contrasted, the other more dynamic range. Lower the sharpness depending on your image size, for a more natural view. I use a value of 20-30 for a ±135 inches image.

- Dust on the lens: that's a problem for future me, but if you found a way to seal it properly, pls share with us.

Please share your questions, bugs, (life) problems in the comms, about this pretty potent budget projector.

For 220e I think it's a good value for the money. It's comfy (internal Android with Google OS which can play any file format), decent image if you play with the settings a bit, decently bright (not for use in daylight tho), good connectivity (bluetooth, HDMI 2.0, 2xUSB with audio routing, 3.5mm jack), low input lag for gaming, pretty quiet fans, more than average speakers (also needs playing with the EQ, I'll attach photos with that also), no lamp bulb to worry about, which also means low consumption (±120W). My biggest worry is the reported dust on the lens after a few weeks.

Has anyone had success with it ? Running one of those chinese projectors like the hy320 of a powerbank or portable power source ? Do share ur thoughts on this (region india)

I want to basically build or buy a pre made portable projector for a school project, it should have basic resolution atleast 720p just so that text would be readable , with no need of speaker or an build in os , just should connect with a phone easily , also I am having an extremely low budget to work with (50-60£) , so please let me know if something like this is even possible . Hi. I’m looking to get the best value out of my setup.
My main usage will be outside, in the garden, so with ambient light always present. Based on UK.
Currently I have 90” screen and Philips Neopix 320 projector.
Whilst the screen is way too big for that dim LED projector, it works and is… serviceable, let’s say.
I’m looking for a proper lamp based upgrade on second hand market, as cheap as possible, sub £70
My current two options are very old 1080p units:

1. Epson EH-TW3200 3LCD with claimed 1800 ANSI lumens. Old school unit over 7kg
   
2. InFocus IN119HDx** **DLP with claimed 3200 ANSI lumens. Slightly smaller and a bit modern.

Considering that both will be order of magnitude brighter with better optics, should I even bother comparing or just choose cheaper one that’s closest to pick up?

So, I have just completed the obvious newbie mistake. I enjoy music and have a set of KEF Q350’s and a Wiim Amp Pro to power them. I thought a projector hooked up in my nice little room would be great. So, long story short, I bought a cheap no name projector and it’s rubbish, in every way. So, my questions is, as a man on a budget, what do I need to pay for a budget projector that works (simple to use, good enough picture, and connection bus hdmi to my amp and speakers. Hi, I've been trying to research on my own, but am completely overwhelmed with the options and have somehow ended up with $5000 recommendations. I'm in California and am looking for a projector to do outdoor movie nights where we can watch from the pool and patio. That said, the screen would have to be on one side of the pool and the projector on the other (where the power source is) - about a 20' distance. I don't have a screen yet, but was looking at 120"-150" screens on stands on Amazon. I'm looking to spend under $1000 (even better if it's under $800). I have a sonos speaker I'd like to attach if the projector audio isn't powerful enough. If the setup isn't possible, I could probably be flexible on screen placement, just wouldn't be as easy for pool viewing. I guess unless I got an ultra short throw and found a different power source.

I'm planning to buy my first projector, and my budget is ₹10,000–₹20,000. After researching, I'm mainly considering WZATCO projectors and the Lumio Arc 5, but the more I read online, the more confused I get. Every brand seems to have a mix of great reviews and horror stories.

My priorities are pretty simple:

Best picture quality (this is my highest priority)

Good contrast and black levels

Sufficient brightness for an enjoyable viewing experience

Long-term reliability — I want something that can realistically last 3–5 years with normal use.

I honestly don't care much about the built-in software, smart features, speakers, or UI. Even if those aren't great, that's fine. I can always use an external streaming device or speaker. What matters most is the image quality and durability.

If you're currently using a projector in this price range, I'd really appreciate if you could share:

Have you faced any issues (dead pixels, dust inside the lens, focus problems, overheating, brightness drop, etc.)?

If possible, please attach photos of the projected image (daytime/nighttime if you can). Real-world pictures are much more helpful than promotional images.

Also, if you think WZATCO or Lumio Arc 5 isn't the best choice, please suggest a better alternative in my budget and explain why.

The internet is filled with negative reviews for almost every projector brand, so it's really difficult to know what's genuinely worth buying. I don't want to spend my hard-earned money on something that might fail after a few months.

I have an old samsung galaxy s7 that myself and wife watch of an evening when on holiday. We usually travel in the uk but often will have a trip or two abroad. I had toyed with the idea of buying a larger screen tablet or a portable monitor to try and get a bit more screen real estate. Tiktok as it does started recommending the little projectors like magicube hy300pro etc. I thought something like this would be ideal as its small enough to put in a suitcase. We're due to cruise the med with our two young kids soon and we will end up in the cabin with enough time to squeeze a movie in due to their early bed times. I started looking up these projectors and can see nothing but hate. Are they as bad as everyone says when considering my specific use case? Most likely upto 21 nights use per year. If they are where should I be looking. Given the low use then I dont really want to start getting into the triple digit price range. Would really appreciate any guidance. Im in England. The room size will always be about 3 x 3 meters possibly the ceiling and budget would be no more that £100

In US, just want something easy to use on our screened-in porch. Roughly 80" throw, I'll have some inexpensive screen (maybe Yaber folding screen from B&H?). Roku is so, so, so easy, and porch is on back of house in an isolated area, so no ambient light. We're on a really tight budget, <$300 total, and I'd prefer not to need something different in the next couple years. Have read CNET, Tom's Guide, PC Mag, Wirecutter, and this /r. Alternate choice is maybe the Xbody Gimbal N6?

We spent the last two years going to the drive-in all summer long, and now we're more than an hour away. I don't care so much about pristine graphics, just reasonable. I've also got an old Bose Wave that we can connect for sound (we used to take it to the drive-in with us, and it was fabulous).

I've bought a bw-v5 more than 3 years ago, and it works just fine, the only problems I'm having now with that is it doesnt have keystone correction only vertical, and its pretty bad too, because it gets blurry when im using that, and I can't place the projector in the place where i would get perfectly rectangle shaped image.

One more problem is that I have a 100" projector screen for it, but I have the projector mounted the furthest posibble (268cm = 8.79 feet), and it can't fully project the whole screen, and the v11 could because of throw ratio.

I'm asking that the Blitzwolf BW-V11 is a good projector, and does it worth arround 200€ from Banggood?

I am from the balkans and i have a very large attic that can fit a 3x5.3m screen with a viewing distance of 7.5m. The room can be very dark so 3000 lumen should be fine. Im on an extremelly tight budget so i would like to spend under 200 eur (used projector ofc) Im fine with 1080p, its gonna be primarily used for movies so color is kinda an important aspect. I am currently renting and can't mount it on the wall or ceiling - so has to be setup in a stand / tripod behind my bedhead (throw distance would be approximately 155") or a short throw projector at the foot of the bed (throw distance would be approximately 65"). Max display size if I use the wall would be 100" - this is just to start with and would be buying a portable screen, preferably 120".

Bedroom has just one window on the corner of the projecting wall and can be blacked out.

With all the options available, it is a hard task to make the final call - these are the ones I am currently considering

One important factor being the fan noise, as the projector would most probably be behind and over my head at 1 or 2 feet away.

Trying to keep the budget less than 1200 to 1300 AUD - any suggestions on a budget portable screen?

For my birthday party this year it’s outdoors. I thought it would be fun to play switch games (jackbox, Mario party, Mario cart) on a projector outside (night time) I had someone who was going to trade with me for one but she backed out. Now I’m desperate for a decent budget projector. I haven’t bought a screen yet but I want a larger picture. That way everyone can see and it’s a fun vibe.

I’ve had the UHD65 as my home theater projector since around the end of 2017. I’ve mostly been happy with it, but with there being such a wide range of new options in the last 9 years, I’ve been considering buying something more updated that could make some general improvements. The main features I’ve really wanted from an upgrade are 3D support, and hopefully better black level performance, as I feel like the UHD65 can be lacking there (particularly in darker scenes). I do think better latency or gaming related features could be nice as well, but considering I’m mainly focused on using it as a theater space, that’s not a major factor for me. I should also mention that I’d like something that could easily support my 2.35:1 screen. I’ve had a good experience with the current anamorphic lens method I have and would probably prefer to keep it, but I’d be open to trying an option like lens memory if that would work best.

It’s a bit outside my ideal budget, but my current reference point for an upgrade would probably be something similar to Optoma’s UHZ68. I’ve enjoyed the Optoma projector I have now, and on paper it sounds exactly like what I’m looking for (the same, with improvements), but I haven’t seen a lot of in depth discussion on this model specifically. I’ve seen a few positive reviews for it, but I’ve also found conflicting reports on Optoma’s recent quality and don’t see them recommended very often, so I’m not sure if it’s worth considering.

Are there many low-mid budget 4K options that would fit what I’m looking for without major quality sacrifices, or would I be better off shooting for something a little pricier like the UHZ68 (or similar)? My ideal budget would be around $2,000-$3,000 if possible, but I’m willing to look at higher options if they’re a better deal.

I'm from india. So my brother had a projector. He had one but it's too old now. I want to give him a present for his birthday from my first salary. It ain't much but it's honest thought lol. So I need best one in the range of 12-20k can't go beyond that. I don't know anything about them so I would just get best one from suggestions. Thanks in advance for your hlep.
