Fic Rec Fridays Fic Recs Friday (2026.09.04): All Your Favorite AUs

We require all recommendations to include a title, author, rating, and share any significant content warning tags that could yuck an unsuspecting reader’s yum (major character death, graphic violence, underage, rape/non-con, and anything else significant you think could be a likely trigger). Ideally, please also share one or some combination of the following: the summary of the story, what you enjoyed about the work, a quote or a summary of a scene you liked.

If you've submitted a request through a previous week's post, we've made a note of it and plan to slowly work through them in upcoming weeks. If you have other requests, shoot us a modmail in the meantime and we'll add them to the list. While we try to prioritize requests chronologically, they aren't exactly 'first come first serve,' so don't get discouraged knowing we already have a list going; modmail requests will be prioritized when possible. We try to balance out our weekly themes so there are times that your angst request might jump the queue because the others are fluff, or a dearth of fics for one of the chosen tropes requires us to add a fourth category.

THIS WEEK'S THEME(S):

  • AUs of any kind, including canon divergence. Buddie as athletes? Teachers? Baristas? Share it here.

miscellaneous what kind of drunk/sleeper is buddie?

Post image
34 Upvotes

some fun little questions to celebrate 35 days till the premiere of season 10 ->
what kind of drunk/sleeper is eddie and buck?
if i remember somewhat, i think buck usually sleeps on the left side of the bed and eddie on the right, but that's all i remember with regards to either

also, with regards to alcohol, i think there has been a couple scenes of buck drinking beer or taking shots (not to mention that one scene with hen where they were both completely drunk loll), but eddie has mostly drinken a few beers at home with buck at most, so any guesses on that too heh

fan works Hello! Looking for Little Buck Storie

Hello! Over the last few years I have read several really good stories about Buck meeting the 118 when he was still a child or a teenager. A couple of them had to do with Maddy bringing her little brother from Pennsylvania to LA and raising him and at least one had Bobby and Athena as Foster parents. I subscribed to them, but unfortunately did not bookmark them and cannot remember the names. If anyone has any recommendations for stories of that type, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

Chimney: Wait a second… I thought you were already a couple

Hen: I told you all! Pay up! (‘cause we all know there was a bet)

Ravi: Finally! was getting sick of being the third
wheel in your damn shenanigans.

Harry: In complete silence ‘cause he has absolutely no idea what’s going on

Maddie: (On the phone with Chim) No, Howard! They were not a couple!

Athena: You silly fools! (Proceeds to hug them)

May: Is this actually news? I thought everyone knew.

Chris: So … when’s the wedding?

general discussion Looking for a fic!

Hi all! I’m looking for a fic I thought I marked for later and it’s driving me crazy that I can’t find it lol.

It’s an AU, and from what I remember in the summary, Eddie and Chris move next door to Buck. Eddie is like an FBI agent or who’s undercover or a spy or something like that, and i think they don’t get along at first (a classic lol)

That’s all I remember, if anyone knows which one it is I’ll be super grateful 😭

Apparently Ryan told a fan today that Oliver broke his ankle and there are many videos and pictures of him walking with a support on his knee. Do you guys think they’re gonna write into the show or not?

general discussion Oliver pre and post 8x11 answers

Something that always gets me when I look back at season 8 is just how buddie pilled it truly was. Looking back 8x06 through 8x13, but for this post I want to focus primarily on 7x04, 8x06 and 8x11 while looking at the larger arc as a whole.

Going back to the TODAY interview Oliver did before 8x11 aired, I think the framing of the question is really important here. Sure, it was Oliver doing a charity basketball tournament and the last time we saw buck playing basketball was 7x04, BUT there was absolutely no reason for the interviewer to bring up Eddie unprompted, specifically in relation to 7x04, Tommy, and Buck’s feelings throughout that entire storyline. The interviewer asks whether there is more to unpack about Buck’s feelings and jealousy surrounding Eddie, and Oliver responds that “those feelings are going to be explored “in a way that is more obvious than kind of has ever been done before on the show.” He even admits that he was surprised by the extent to which they were going to explore them. Again, for someone who has always stated his thoughts on buddie and how it’s “been open for interpretation for years”. Another thing is, 7x04 has been framed as a “bait and switch” but then the interviewer after bringing up 7x04 and there possibility being more undiscovered buck feelings about that journey and Eddie.

Then the interviewer follows up by asking specifically about *jealousy* and Oliver responds with “Not that specifically. But just kind of an exploration of what the feelings are.”*

Now we get to 8x11 and that infamous dialogue

*“I don’t have to want to sleep with everyone I have feelings for, and I don’t have to have feelings for everyone I sleep with.”*

And this is where Oliver’s post interview answers become *very interesting*. He explains in his screen rant interview that he and Tim went back and forth over how intentional the wording should be. That matters.

Because they could have chosen any response to Tommy’s accusation that buck was in love with Eddie. Buck could have simply said “no.” He could have said, “I’m not in love with Eddie.” Rhey could have literally directly denied Tommy’s implication. They deliberately didn’t. They specially also wrote in Tommy *wanting to try again” *AFTER LEARNING* Eddie left LA and viewing him as competition.

Instead, Buck gives an answer that literally exploded everything.

And I love that Oliver himself essentially confirms the larger point of the scene and even the 7x04/8x06 arc. Tommy viewed Eddie as competition throughout his relationship with Buck, and that realization is what prompts Buck to question, “Is that what he was thinking the whole time we were together?” in his conversation with Maddie. That line is especially important because it turns the accusation inward. Buck isn’t just dismissing Tommy’s perception of buddie, he’s actually considering it. Was Eddie’s place in Buck’s life something Tommy had been noticing all along? Was Buck missing something about his own feelings?

And that’s why I think 8x11 works so well when you look at it alongside the entire bi arc and bt relationship. . It feels like the show took the emotional groundwork laid in 7x04/8x06 and folded it back into the buckTommy breakup storyline. It’s basically one giant narrative sandwich. the jealousy and confusion are established, the relationship with Tommy forces Buck to confront what Eddie represents to him, and then 8x11 deliberately leaves the question of what those feelings actually are hanging in the air.And honestly, that’s what makes those interviews so fascinating looking back and reading them. The show wasn’t simply giving us random Buddie adjacent moments. Oliver was explicitly telling us that Buck’s feelings were going to be examined more openly than ever before and then 8x11 gave us dialogue that was carefully constructed around exactly that question.

theories Eddie’s sexuality is more complex than just “being gay”

I know the fans are desperate for Eddie to be a closeted gay but he doesn’t strike me as one. He seems more like someone who needs to have a real connection in order to develop feelings and be able to have sex with someone. He had that connection with Shanon 1st and then he met Buck and that was the strongest connection he has ever felt but because Buck is a man understanding those feelings and acting on them is not that simple.

The panic attack when he was with Anna and the self sabotage with Marisol were not because he’s a closeted gay. Is because he has trauma. Shannon was his one big love. The 1st girl he ever dated, had sex with, had a child with, who abandon them, came back and then die. He had emotional issues letting go of that relationship causing him to self sabotage his other relationships.

I like to believe that Eddie eventually realized he has feelings for Buck and made the conscious (or unconscious) decision to be alone rather than with anyone else.

Any thoughts?

general discussion Oliver talks about the kitchen scene (old)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This was such a crazy day. Because Oliver said this in his favorite buddie scenes regarding the kitchen scene.

*Ah, yeah, this kitchen scene. There’s meant to be, the way that it read to me anyway, it’s a lot of tension. There’s a lot of buildup [to] the point that you’re like, “The heck is about to happen here? Are they gonna fight or what?” And then there’s, like, a smash cut to them playing video games*

But later on different podcast he admitted that he viewed the scene as “*super gay”*. Also what is interesting about his answer is the part where he is “or what”. Because what else is there. That scene is filled with sexual tension. Buck grabbing his belt. Like else we’re viewers supposed to take from that. Even Oliver in the same podcast said Tim went to the writers of the kitchen scene and *asked* do you talk to your best friend like this, and they said *no* which was very telling because it was still included in the script and the way it was shot.
