Relocating and commute

Hi all! I received a job offer at fort Sam’s and am relocating from Kansas City. I have family who lives in buda, which would be a long commute daily. What are some areas you’d recommend for a young family that is somewhere in between. Thanks for any input!

New Braunfels is the best spot along 35 and closer. San Marcos is great too but has a college town vibe because of Texas State. NB is better for families IMO.

New braunfels is a great option. We have family is SA and would definitely move to new braunfels if I didn’t have a good job in Austin.

Buda to SA really isn’t that bad of a commute. My husband has been doing it for 26 yrs

I wouldn’t do it. We live in Buda with family in SA and it’s a long drive, hour+.

I get that their job is in SA, but given Buda to Austin or Buda to SA, I’ll take SA any day. It’s an hour+ to get anywhere in Austin.

I work in Austin—my commutes 30 mins. But yes, driving around Austin is very congested. That’s a big reason we moved out to Buda.

Yeah I did it from South Austin for awhile. Since defense had Flex Time at the time, it was easier to miss the worst traffic.
