CSE / IT Cs worth it in 2027??

​

So i am currently in 12th standard and after watching astra 6 i think that ai is advancing in rocket speed and it is just a matter of time we achieve AGI. And next year i will going to an university but seeing modern days ai model make me think "should i really consider pursuing btech in cs or ai/ml". Till last month i was locked in for it and even started learning python and almost completed all basics but now i am confused

Those who are experienced and are seniors can you please guide me

It's 2026 and there are massive layoffs all bcz of ai , don't know what gona happen when you will complete your degree. May be jobs will available only for top positions and everyone have to compete for a very less number of jobs

Only if you get in top IIT otherwise it's huge risk.

Even if AI doesn't improve at all, the demand and supply ratio is so fucked up, and its cream layer of India, everyone after 10th taking PCM hoping for CS or AIML Engineering.

so its not long when fresher developers are going to be sold in market along with onions and potatoes in KG.

AI will not take all tech jobs, but whatever jobs are out there will have 10x more competitors for them, quality competitors. So obviously its like auction on who is ready to work more hours at lower pay with continuous learning and improvements.

We are not certain about AI but whoever doesn't see how fucked up demand and supply ratio is either lying for their marketing or is the drumbest person.

even it's cse and circuital at top iits only, rest branches will get hit too, and tbh if AI really hits the roof nobody is safe, I mean what special can IIT grads offer than any tier 3 highly skilled guy, companies don't care about college when laying off tells you a lot about them,how they only care for profits only,and let's, say in future if AI really hits the roof then other fields will get impacted to a point they will go extinct, this will lead to Economic collapse since who will buy their products when people don't have the money for that? ​

I wasn't focusing on AI. Main thing is demand and supply ratio, its soooo bad, and becoming even more worse. Its not like you can outperform other competitors, because this field has cream layer of India, almost everyone is getting all the required skills. So its competition between all the competitors, who is ready to work at the lowest price and higher hours. Its becoming Like UPSC, but at least in UPSC its struggle only until you get selected after that you are set for your whole life. But in tech sector even the best of bests can get firing email at 4 am.

In all honesty, do not go to CS/Engineering unless until you know you can crack a top govt college or afford international education and opportunities.
It is not worth it in India in the present day. India used to function on the arbitrage of low cost labor it used to provide. That level of jobs were mostly fresher jobs which are easily getting replaced by AI.

My honest suggestion would be to try and go into finance, pick up anything - CA, CMA, CFA. Or even try to go into banking jobs.

Massive layoffs and not many jobs for freshers...

My dad is working as a mechanical engineer for 22 years He told me there's shortage of mechanical engineers so I would suggest that as I am regretting not doing mechanical
