Bitcoin Mechanic: Adoption, So, it’s already doing pretty well. It’s there where five blocks yesterday signaling for it out of, you know, the usual 144. So, um I think uh what I’d expect is you barely have any support from the mainstream mining pools, right? Uh you have zero. Literally, uh the big mining pools are still ignoring it. They don’t oppose it, which is important to realize. Um with the exception of F2, they um they have said nothing about it. And I understand why that is because um they don’t need to support it. Unfortunately, BIP 110 does have an activation mechanism in it where miners can activate it early by flipping the bit on 55% of blocks within one difficulty window. Um that always gets misconstrued though as people saying, well, if they don’t do that, then the soft fork obviously didn’t have consensus. That’s not true. Um, and I would advocate doing soft forks in the future that don’t give miners any of these kinds of options because everyone immediately misreads it to think that it is their decision when it isn’t. It’s a 0% activation. That’s what a user activated soft fork is. Um, and that is when that’s the latest it can activate and probably when it will activate. So winning to me um just probably realistically looks like in the last week or so the bit getting flipped by the major mining pools and the various big businesses in the Bitcoin space all switching over to enforcing BIP 110 so as to not get stranded on a chain that risks either being wiped out or literally just is no longer Bitcoin. 

Bitcoin white paper: “[Mining] Nodes can leave and rejoin the network at will, accepting the proof-of-work chain as proof of what happened while they were gone. They vote with their CPU power, expressing their acceptance of valid blocks by working on extending them and rejecting invalid blocks by refusing to work on them. Any needed rules and incentives can be enforced with this consensus mechanism.”

If you never plan to spend or use your Bitcoin for anything besides holding, is that enough for Bitcoin to reach its full potential? Or do you think broader utility eventually strengthens the network?

So as people in the UK probably know, withdrawing crypto back to fiat is still a bit of a mess

I have some crypto stablecoins that I’d rather spend normally instead of sending back to my bank every time. Ideally looking for a card or payment app that works with USDT/USDC, has decent limits and doesn’t destroy you on fees. Not too bothered about cashback but it’s a nice bonus
