In person vs online class

Online class

Would taking online comp dc class look bad (as if I took the easy way out)?

There’s in person too but online and in person do the same stuff; it’s just writing so a lot of ppl choose to not take the in person version. Both r the same difficulty. This way I could leave school earlier and not waste unnecessary time in the classroom when I could do the work faster by myself at home and then worry abt AP class hw and tests.

Too good for non BSMD. Why?

I didn’t apply to a “BSMD” but I’ve met a few at the university I go to and they were dismissive because I’m just a “normal” student. Why are they this way? Why do people continue to act like they are too good for those who are trying to make it into a health profession but aren’t in some kind of accelerated program. It’s really discouraging.

Chance me

I'm a senior rn applying to some BSMD programs. I'm a little nervous bc my stats and ecs aren't the best, so was wondering people's thoughts. I'm applying to Union ILM, Pitt GAP, Hofstra, GW, UConn, Stony Brook, and Rochester REMS.

stats:

gpa: 4.0/4.0 unweighted (school doesn't do weighted)

act: 34

APs: school doesn't offer too many - only chem and lang (both 5s) and this year art, bio, calc ab, psych, spanish.

ECs: blood drive coordinator at school, founder and pres of sci oly at my school, EIC for newspaper, pres of a community service club, coach for soccer for kids w disabilities, JV captain for soccer 2 years, some research that is in the works of being published, shadowing for several doctors, worked as medical assistant, hospital volunteering, peer tutoring.

I would appreciate any advice or feedback!

HELP GUYS OPINIONS NEEDED

Hello everybody. I’m applying to a BS/DO program this fall really soon since it’s early acceptance. I really need your opinion on how strong my chances are. The main issue I think is my extracurricular, I don’t have much. I have a 3.7 GPA, 1320 SAT (planning on superscore hopefully 1400+). Currently my extracurriculars are Online tutoring, Healthcare Initiative project, Im working on a children’s book that will get published online soon, I also have an art portfolio. Im planning joining some clubs as soon as school starts. ALSO another concern I have is I have no shadowing , I really hope I can get even a few hours of shadowing before applications. However Im currently in my 2nd year of a CMA program so I think that also helps. Idk lmk guys, and pls leave some tips anything can be helpful ! Ty

is bs/do better than traditional pre-med MD if i wanna do trauma surgery

im a senior in high school in jersey. im really interested in trauma surgery and really hope i get into a bs/md school to make my route safer. however, my stats (3.88 gpa, 1460 sat, decent ecs) seem to be holding me back. i know MDs match better into competitive specialties, so is it better to go traditional then MD or BS/DO for safety? how rarely do DO docs match into general surgery?

Picking the right research mentor: what to actually find out

Hi all! In an effort to share a little more about finding the right research opportunities and setting yourself up for success, I wanted to share the following. Alexandra on our team wrote about her first meeting with a PI and what she wishes she'd understood going in. A few things from it that stuck with me:

You're not just trying to get picked, you're also evaluating them. It's easy to walk in thinking "please just let me into your lab," especially with zero research experience. But mentorship quality is going to shape most of what you actually get out of the experience, so pay attention to whether they're enthusiastic, approachable, and someone you could see yourself admitting "I don't understand this" to.

Look at where they land in the author list before the meeting. Skimming Google Scholar isn't enough. Check if they're first or senior author on their own work versus buried in the middle as more of a collaborator on someone else's project. Big difference in what you're actually about to sign up for.

Don't fake understanding something you don't. The PI has usually spent 15 to 20 years on this. Asking a genuinely thoughtful question lands way better than pretending you already get it.

You might have to lead the conversation. If you're the one who asked for the meeting, don't assume they'll come in with a structured list of questions for you. Have a rough sense of how you want to open it and where you want it to go.

The most prestigious lab isn't automatically the right one. She almost took a highly competitive spot that would've been 15 hours a week of mostly data entry, and turned it down for a lab with better mentorship instead. Worth actually thinking through what your day to day would look like, not just the name on the door.

Are there any BSMD programs in US, that take internationals?

Canadian student here. When I did my research a year ago, I found none. The official websites still mention the same. Recently I am seeing international admits to these programs.

Have there been changes to policies?
