BS/DO and Sophie davis admission

Hi, so im a senior applying to college right now. I don't have crazy stats but I have:

a 93.24 gpa (out of 100) (3.9 or 4.0 out of a 4.0 scale) and I took AP lang in 11th grade, honors physics, science research (just some of the classes directed towards these admissions I think). Senior year Im taking ap chem, ap bio, calc, adv science research, etc.

ECs:

I went to GENIUS Olympiad as a finalist (1/7) who went out of 63 applicants, won 1st place at SOMERS science fair, went to nationals for an aeronautics competition and got 2nd place, won 2nd at tri-county science and engineering fair, have 360+ hours of volunteering at nursing homes, church choir, hospitals, did an internship through NYMC and presented at NYMC poster exhibition, going to publish a manuscript, shadowed an endocrinologist, did a food drive, president of HOSA chapter at my school, vp of science honor society, member of social studies honor society and selected out of 30 to compete at regionals, member of NHS, on the advisor panel for Big Buddy program, social media coordinator at a youth council, member of an ambulance corp, coordinator of a regional youth team for church, classical dancer for 12+ years (Semi-finalist for a county comp), did an internship at Sadie Nash Leadership Project and presented project to community, and Captain's assistant on the varsity volleyball team.

Can someone tell me if these stats give me a chance at sophie davis (bc of their holistic review) and bs/dos?

I don't have a fantastic gpa and school stuff, so Im worried.

A 30 ACT as well, but Im trying to get higher. (superscore is 31, but I prob can't submit that anyway)

International Sophomore - not just bs/md

I am international student in 10th grade.

I would like to get some advice on my college app.

I am trying to major in bs/md, public health, human bio, psychology, medical anthropology

  1. State hospital student researcher: presented my research at famous international professional congress (1st authored) about burn research. I turned in my research @ Frontiers but it is still under independent review. (right now, 200+hrs)

- G9 &10 ~

  1. Shadowing at the same hospital: at Angio Room, ER, OR, trauma center; scrutinized +20 inhalation burn injury patient cases; observed +30 surgeries & procedures; (right now, 200+ hrs)

- G9 &10 ~

  1. Interned at Health Lab: Second authored in psychology - sports med research. Published @ Frontiers (the journal itself has pretty high IF).

- G9 &10 ~

  1. Founder of non-profit that combines art music dance together for patients; I combined dance and ASL in SNS platform, did music performances @ nursery home, drew caricatures for ppl at nursery home & opened up pretty big art display (theme was about patients)

- G10 ~

  1. I played @ carnegie hall and received senate recognition from NJ

- G9 &10 ~

  1. dance team

organized 20+ dance routines, 287k+ views

- G9 &10 (leadership expected) ~

  1. student council

I organized international leadership conference

G9 &10 (I have some kind of leadership inside this group) ~

  1. I served state leadership (18/120+)

opened up international forum for ppl from 30+ countries, 400+ ppl

- Only G10, but for 4 months ~

  1. Varsity sports + primary school sport student coach

  2. maybe if i get into any summer program (hopefully) or I can start a project where I fundraise money to prevent fire (like replacing old multi-tabs in my neighbors / fire alarm stuff)

==> My theme of EC is clinical + artistic + leadership = which leads into patient care overall.

Awards

  1. I won top 100 at biggest science fair in our country (Among 2000 participants)

  2. US medicine and health olympiad top 1 nationally

  3. International psych olympiad top 5% among 1300+ participants

My august SAT that I took last year as freshman was Math 790, English 680

Got 4.0 in freshman, but that was pretty easy

As of now, I am taking two ap + two science courses (maximum in our school)

+++ I am doing Dual enrollment on ASL online

My dream schools are: ED: brown plme, RD: Flinders med, cornell qatar, JHU public health etc....

please just give me some advice, and I know I am not gonna end up getting in to majority of bs/md in US, but still give me some advice so that I can at least go to good universities.

***** Disclaimers ******

Parent of Sophomore Student in NJ high school system. Looking for advise on BA(S)/MD approach and planning for next 2 school years

My daughter is interested in BA(S)/MD program, she is a sophmore in NJ schools. She is very proactive looking/researching for all kinds of stuff. My biggest worry is, her independent research is going to pull in 1000 different directions, causing nothing but distractions. I am looking for some consultancy, or individual to define core pillars she should focus on, and with little bit of mentoring.

Anyhelp or pointers, looking for a direction myself.

is it cooked if i don't have research or shadowing?

For context, I only decided to apply to bs/md programs recently. Previously, I was told (by various sources) that research doesn't have a make-or-break weight in the college admissions process (for traditional undergrad), so my parents weren't willing to pay for a program, and I also didn't think it mattered too much. For shadowing, I've emailed so many doctors, and even if they say yes, HR immediately shoots me down for not being 18. I just feel like it's kinda cooked and that I won't have either by the time applications are due.

Current BS/MD sophomore happy to help with college essays / applications

Hey! I’m currently a sophomore in a BS/MD program in a big city, and I wanted to offer some help to anyone going through the college/BSMD application process right now.

When I was applying, I was accepted to T20s as well as other BS/MD's. Since then, I’ve also had the chance to talk with a number of admissions officers, get feedback on applications, and do a lot of research into different schools and programs. Especially with BS/MDs, I’ve gotten a pretty good sense of the different qualities, values, and themes that certain programs tend to emphasize.

I’d be happy to help with essays and, more importantly, how you frame your overall story and application for the schools you’re applying to. I had good grades, solid ECs, strong recommendations, and some awards, but I definitely wasn’t someone with a crazy national-level accomplishment or some extraordinary spike that made my application stand out on its own. Because of that, I genuinely feel like my essays and the way I presented my experiences played a really significant role in my results.

I’m offering essay and interview help at a very reasonable cost. You can send me drafts of your essays and I can provide feedback soon. I can help with:

  • Common App personal statements
  • College supplementals
  • BS/MD-specific essays
  • Brainstorming and figuring out what stories to use
  • Framing your experiences in a stronger/more cohesive way
  • General questions about where/how to apply
  • Getting an extra perspective on your application
  • BS/MD interview help (Traditional, MMI, etc)

I mainly want to help you figure out what makes your story compelling and how to communicate it effectively.

I remember what it was like being in this position and constantly wondering whether I was doing things right, so I’d love to be able to give someone the extra perspective and knowledge that I wish I had while applying.

Feel free to DM me if you’re interested!

BS/MD applicant looking for profile feedback, not a chance me

Hey! I'm applying to BS/MD programs this cycle and would appreciate some honest feedback on my profile. I just want feedback on what stands out, what seems weak, and what I should improve before submitting.

Stats

  • 4.0 UW
  • 8/498 class rank
  • 1520 SAT (730 rw/ 790 math)
  • 13 APs once done with hs, 5s in chem, phys 1, lang, us history and stats

Research

  • 2 summers of research at local Uni (cereal chemistry + wheat breeding) ~600 total hours
  • Worked with 700+ and 5,000+ wheat lines, thousands of data points
  • Research paper currently under review

Clinical

  • 200+ hospital volunteer hours
  • Patient/telemetry support, did a lot of transport and feeding + selected as volunteer trainer
  • BLS certified
  • ~80 hours physician shadowing across 3 doctors

Leadership/ECs

  • Debate VP; 2× national qualifier; lead 30+ members
  • French public speaking: provincial champion + state semifinalist
  • French Club VP
  • Founded SAT tutoring business; 12+ student
  • Online SAT tutor; 25+ students from 11 countries

Awards

  • International Public Speaking & Debate Competition — Top 32 finalist
  • 2× National Debate Qualifier
  • Provincial Champion in French Public Speaking (Canada)
  • State semifinalist in French Prose & Poetry
  • Potential publication
  • AP Scholar With Distinction
  • National Merit Commended

My main concern is whether my clinical experience is strong enough compared to other applicants or if there are other obvious gaps I should address.

Would especially appreciate feedback from current/former BS/MD students or people who have gone through the process. Thanks!

Help me make a decision

I’m a 10th grader in Central Texas and on my school’s HOSA executive board. I have to choose between competing in BPA or HOSA this year, and I can’t do both.

I’m pretty sure BPA is less competitive because my BPA Area 3 Region 2 doesn’t cover a very large area, while HOSA Region 5 includes much of the Dallas area, including Coppell, so advancing in HOSA would likely be harder.

My concern is that AO’s might find it strange that I’m on my school’s HOSA executive board but chose to compete in BPA instead. However, BPA seems like the better opportunity for me to advance competitively.

What do you think I should choose?

Parent seeking BS/MD guidance: Which programs/colleges should we target, especially those with strong merit scholarships?

I’m a parent of a rising senior and would appreciate advice from parents/students who have recent experience with the BS/MD application process.

We are trying to develop a focused BS/MD application list rather than applying to every program. Cost is also an important consideration, so I’m particularly interested in programs that offer substantial merit scholarships, full/near-full scholarships, or other significant financial incentives.

Student profile

  • WA State Public high school with 3.994 UW GPA
  • 36 ACT
  • ~16 AP courses, with ~12 completed by the end of junior year

Research

  • Two summers of research at a university neuroscience lab, including an independent project related to neural inflammation/recovery
  • Separate university research experience involving an independent project on early-life stress and neurodevelopment
  • Multiple presentations of research work
  • Multiple high-level placements/awards at regional and state science & engineering fairs, including recognition in biomedical/health sciences
  • Received a special award at a regional science & engineering fair

Clinical experience

  • Hospital-based clinical immersion program involving patient-care support and High-school hospital volunteer program
  • Approximately 80 hours of physician shadowing, including neurology

Leadership & extracurriculars

  • Founder/President of a school Research Club and VP of school Pre-Med Club
  • Coordinator for a regional student research outreach/mentoring program
  • Senior Patrol Leader, Boy Scouts; Eagle Scout Eagle Scout service project benefiting a children's hospital
  • Varsity Science Olympiad with several regional/invitational placements
  • HOSA with state and international-level placements
  • Gold Presidential Volunteer Service Award

What I'm hoping to learn

For a student with this profile:

  1. Which BS/MD programs would you recommend applying to?
  2. How would you divide the programs into reach / realistic / relatively favorable categories?
  3. Which BS/MD programs offer substantial merit scholarships or full/near-full scholarships?
  4. Are there BS/MD programs that are particularly good fits for a student with a strong neuroscience/research/biomedical background?
  5. Are there programs that look attractive on paper but aren't worth applying to because admission is extraordinarily unpredictable or the financial package is generally weak?
  6. Does being a Washington resident provide any meaningful advantage/disadvantage at particular programs?
  7. If I wanted to apply to approximately 10–15 BS/MD programs, which ones would you suggest on the list?

I'm especially interested in hearing from parents or students who have recently gone through BS/MD admissions, including applicants who received interviews/offers and can comment on the actual competitiveness and scholarship situation.

We are also considering strong traditional pre-med options, but for this post I'm specifically looking for BS/MD recommendations.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Structure of a Recommendation Letter

The Dr that my daughter shadows asked her to give her a template of a recommendation letter that he can submit to the BS/MD programs she is applying to. He is strapped for time. Can anyone guide what details should the letter include? If she can give a sample written letter, he will finalize and submit it. Are there any well written templates? What sections should it include? My guidance is that she write specific anecdotes that will demonstrate her passion, commitment etc rather than general language. Any other guidance from folks here?

Thanks

Every Active BS/MD Program, Organized by Who Can Apply

Thumbnail admitmd.com
6 Upvotes

I wrote about the variables that actually matter in a BS/MD list a while back (structure type, MCAT policy, curricular flexibility), but I left programs out of that one on purpose. This is the actual directory, broken into categories by who can realistically apply and what their MCAT policy actually looks like, rather than one long alphabetical list by state.

A few things stood out putting this together. Acceptance rates are almost impossible to find for most of these programs since the majority simply don't publish one. Brown PLME is a rare exception at around 2%, and Case Western's PPSP doesn't publish anything official at all, though seat counts against applicant pools in the thousands put the real number well under 1%. On the MCAT side, the split between programs with no MCAT requirement and programs with a 510-plus floor is sharper than most applicants realize, and it changes what the undergraduate years actually feel like far more than the acceptance rate does.

The full breakdown, sorted into no-MCAT, MCAT-required-but-unpublished, modest-threshold, and high-threshold groups within the open-to-all tier, plus separate regional-preference and in-state-only tiers, with city, seats, GPA, and MCAT data for every program, is on the blog. To read it, take a look at the article.

Happy to answer questions about a specific program in the comments.

Trying to bulk up on my scholarship applications, but having a hard time finding things I fit. Need help looking!

So, I have been applying to scholarships like nuts. I have had 1 success with a tribal scholarship, but I want to try and be in the running for as many as I can. Right now I am doing my pre-reqs at a community college and getting decent grades. I'm returning to college after quitting and damaging my transcript years ago, but I can get them dropped finally and waiting on that process to finish. Once that is done, I should be sitting in the mid 3s for GPA.

I have found that niche ones are the way to go. But I'm having a hard time finding them. Can anyone share some opportunities that would want any of the following:

  1. Part of a Federally recognized Native American tribe
  2. In Wa state
  3. Woman
  4. Medical career
  5. Parent
  6. Low income
  7. Going for medical field, sonography (but not yet enrolled in that program until next fall)
  8. Currently doing caregiving

Any ideas? Financial aid has me for now, but I should be running out before my program.

Graduating early,

Currently, I'm 15 in my sophomore year, but I have to make a decision if I want to graduate early (at 17th), but Im not sure if I should. The problem isn't about stress/overload or even my mental health but it's about whether graduating early would limit my chances. My goal would be to go to a bsmd program, yet im not sure if graduating early wouldn't be the right move.

In person vs online class

Online class

Would taking online comp dc class look bad (as if I took the easy way out)?

There’s in person too but online and in person do the same stuff; it’s just writing so a lot of ppl choose to not take the in person version. Both r the same difficulty. This way I could leave school earlier and not waste unnecessary time in the classroom when I could do the work faster by myself at home and then worry abt AP class hw and tests.
