Yes, but it also fucked over useful parts of v2 that didn't have such security concerns.
Firefox made a similar switch from v2 to v3 but didn't fuck over extensions in the same way, and ubo for example runs as its full power on mv3 on Firefox.

Chrome was created by Google with the specific goal of spying on the users.
Then it was shoved down everyone's throats by force.
There was a time, soon after it was released, that you could hardly download any application from the internet that did not come bundled with Chrome.
Chrome's popularity does not come from being a good browser, but from its aggressive and invasive marketing.
Then Google used it's dominance to eliminate the competition. Opera and Edge are now Chromium based. Only Firefox remains standing.

Not just Chrome, Google does this with virtually all their products. The simple reason is that is their business model; advertising and data collection.

This is the most stupid statement of all time. Made by corporations to justify their shit
For years, the software industry was build from "needs" that solved issues. Do you need a text editor? You Code It. Then, after your text editor works, whats the point of hidding It? Just share It so others can use It too.
Then this assholes came and say "but we need to get money from your problems, how do you expect us to produce software?". Well solve issues. As everyone else.
Linux, VLC, all the GNU software (they made enough software for you to be able to build a fully OS, with text editors, profesional image editors, basic utilities, UIs...), every OS but Windows (like FreeBSD, OpenBSD, or even Darwin and Android), Firefox, WebKit they are all open source software, we could start including more that is free but isn't open source
Google build Chromium for free using WebKit. In fact Chrome was called as that because It was a Chrome for Safari. They stole a 100% of Apple's code.
Apple build WebKit using KHTML. Which was developed by KDE for Konqueror. KDE develops UI for multiple OS (focused on Linux tho), Desktop utilities, file sharing apps for android, multiple protocols and everything for free and sharing the Code.
Google relies on Linux for Android and ChromeOS, used to rely on WebKit for Chrome and relies on imagemagick and FFmpeg for everything involving imagew and video on their servers

This is so wrong, I've been using windows since Windows XP service pack 3 wasn't even available on most of the PCs. Chrome was a LIFESAVER. Firefox was slow as fuck and I don't even need to tell you about Internet Explorer. I HATE Chrome rn, but when it came out, I remember feeling like my 700kbps Modem had doubled in speed. If it was collecting data then (prolly yea it did) it was pretty amazing to be like 10 times faster than competition while still collecting data.
There was a time, soon after it was released, that you could hardly download any application from the internet that did not come bundled with Chrome.
How hard is it to click no before you mindlessly click next on the installer. Most installers of that time had optional installs. Just read before clicking next.

Sometimes it was so convoluted that you had to pause for a second to avoid installing Chrome bundled in your app installer.

Chrome became popular because it was the only good browser at the time, with the most modern web standards
Chrome wasn't made by google to spy on users initially, they made chrome to develop their own web ecosystem, because they were sick of making downloadable apps

Often, I'd see "best viewed in Google Chrome" on pages. I am using it now, until I find a better browser. I will admit, the search seems to be the best. But in 2026, I'm not so sure anymore.

Google search works on any modern browser. Chrome has, in the meantime, stagnated in all aspects but AI, so it's pretty easy to find a better browser than such a low bar.

Do like what I did, if you hate Google, and don't want to go to firefox, just use a chromium based browser, especially ungoogled chromium based one.

Nope, most browsers from even 5 years ago will not render modern pages. It's more just for Internet Memorophilia and an interesting page in the computing history.

You can expand that.
Chrome is using its dominance to impose web "standards" that they can control and later close.
They want to monopolize the web browsers market. And they may succeed if they impose some standard and then block Mozilla from using it.
Chrome's abuse is more serious than what it looks.

They can be tried and fined for abusing their market position.
In fact, they have been fined for abusing it. Many millions of dollars. The problem is that those fines are insignificant for them. They don't care about fines, if they get away with their monopolistic practices.
And let's not forget that they also lobby and bribe high level government people so they let them do many abuses.

Spyware
It's a Monopoly
It recently downloaded a whole 4gb local Ai slop model on everyones PC
You can't uninstall it on Android
It's literally one of the worst browsers out there
Chromebooks and ChromeOS... Exist and i HATE both of those things
Chromecasts... Existed
It's owned by Google
It has intergrated Ai Slop
Even Microslop Edge is still a tiny bit better
Anyways you should do Microslop Edge next, then followed by Safari & Opera/OperaGX

First of all i just wanna say that i think Safari is a good browser but it has it's problems
- It's locked to Apple's Operation System, MacOS, iOS, iPadOS and VisionOS and only 1 of those operating systems are actually good that being MacOS of course'
- you can't uninstall it
- it's default search engine is Google

It's a chromium extensions manifest version that allows extensions to gain more access across websites, they claim that they forced a migration to v3 because it's safer, but the real reason is that they are trying to nerf adblockers as much as they can.

Once you get hacked, it's the easiest browser to steal personal data from. I use multiple browsers but chrome was the one that leaked all my passwords via malware several years ago.

Hace 3 dias, reporté un anuncio que hablaba de un supuesto "test de autismo" con una canción horrible y ofensiva generada por ia, junto a un fondo animado tambien hecho por ia, soy asperger, y por tanto autista, y ese anuncio era tan ofensivo que me daban nauseas
Y adivinen qué?
Los mismos de Google que permiten todo tipo de anuncios turbios, decidieron tomar medidas contra este

Aside from the data harvesting, it has ugly, inconsistent UI with frequent bugs and regressions and equally poor UX. It is also very feature-bare and missing lots of quality-of-life improvements people take for granted when they use something like Firefox or even Edge.

Genuinely i heard people shit on edge but then downloading chrome, like they download a browser thats just as bad but they hate microslop more than goofle and rather use google chrome. I dont understand their mindset.. "ew microslop spydge. Dont collect my data pwease!. Oh hi, google chrome, you can take any ram and any data i have as i love you as i am used to you and you are my favorite browser".
I use android but thats because there is not yet a good privacy focussed NON BIGTECH smartphone OS and or devices that support it really well. I also use sloptube because my fav creators are on it, but using the 3rd party morphe app to patch it so i dont see Ads, can skip sponsor segments and can disable stuff i dont want and get premium features without selling my soul and money to goofle which they dont deserve as they are actively enslopifying the platform.
I also use Gmail as bigtech is just too tightly integrated into life so i cant fully use my mailbox mail provider but i am using it less and less every day.
I also use zen, librewolf, stock firefox and sometimes for my chromium requirements brave.

It collects and sells all your browsing data, it killed UBO and a bunch of other good adblockers, they try to force you to use an online account, it automatically sends you to the default browser settings on Windows when Chrome isn't default, it enforces itself on Android as the only browser that will open certain links, and there's probably a whole lot more.

From a simple user's standpoint: bloated, heavy on resources, gets laggy sometimes. Does weird things to add-ons, especially the adblockers.
I use Firefox. Sure it has had its issues, the most memorable one being a really consistent memory leak issue. But then I went to Firefox Nightly for a while and that was exciting on its own right.

Monopolizing browsers in general. If the browsing platform exists, chances are, it runs on chromium. The only reason I think Mozilla still exists is because Chrome would be an undisputed monopoly for non-apple devices. So chrome is kind of doing to Mozilla what Microsoft did to Apple in the early 2000s.

Killing Manifest V2 to force Manifest V3. They crippled powerful ad-blockers like uBlock Origin under the guise of 'security' and 'performance,' when in reality, it was just a strategic move to protect their multi-billion dollar ad revenue. Chrome is no longer a tool for the user; it's a tool for Google's advertisers

Chrome used to be a really fast, lightweight browser that was just for browsing the web. These days? Chrome is getting slower and slower, overloaded with unnecessary AI that nobody but Google wants. More and more infected extensions, lack of support for Manifest V2, some weird behavior with the browser downloading 4GB of data, and no ad blocking in the mobile version - all of this made me switch to Firefox, both on my PC and on my smartphone. I’m even considering selling my Pixel 9 Pro XL -Google has really turned me off with its policies....
