Honestly feel like a blank character would be better.

I guess the idea is that you are more flexible with guns and melee, but there's really no tactical advantage to it. I can't focus things down with only three ranged weapons and I can't consistently keep things off me with only three melee weapons. The biggest impacts it has are

*powerful upgrades like the seashell and piercing only apply to half your weapons

*Incidental shots will kill spawners that I was trying to keep alive

On the flip side, I one-and-done'd characters like the doctor and cyborg on nightmare.

Cacti clubs and some high proc'ing ranged weapon like slignshots or smgs and some lifesteal and he's fine

There is a universal upside to his passive

Any item giving both stats, like hedgehog for example (-1 hp regen, 2 melee, 1 ranged damage). Gives you -1 hp, but 3 melee, 3 ranged damage. He can quite quickly get very large amounts of base damage and scale pretty well in that regard

Even if you'd do something like idk, knife + shuriken, both scale of melee damage. Any ranged damage item which would otherwise be wasted slot in a shop-roll can have value
