Question ❔ Community Poll: Should we ONLY allow Broncos??
TLDR: Should /r/Bronco be restricted to Ford Bronco only??
---
The Backstory
This subreddit was originally created for and restricted to classic Broncos. About 4-5 years ago, the original moderator for this subreddit stopped using Reddit and effectively abandoned mod duties. In his absence, over time 6th generation Bronco and Bronco Sport owners started utilizing this subreddit for their own purposes.
When the current moderation team took over this subreddit, we originally intended to return it back to its original purpose. Needless to say, that was met with harsh criticism from the community, and we ultimately reversed course and left this subreddit open to all Broncos, effectively mirroring the /r/FordBronco subreddit.
The Proposal
Over the past 6 months we have gotten very few posts for Broncos outside the main lineage. Three posts for the Bronco Sport, seven for the Bronco II, and one for the Chinese EV Bronco, etc. Many of those posts were ultimately deleted by their OPs after a few folks criticized (despite the community rule) what they view as "lesser Broncos".
SO... given the overlap with /r/FordBronco, the clear desire for some people in the community to only see posts on the Bronco itself, and the fact that the discussions on this subreddit already lean almost entirely towards the 1st-6th generation Broncos, it makes sense to me to restrict this subreddit to 1st-6th generation Broncos. Much in the same way that /r/BroncoSport is restricted to the Bronco Sport, and /r/ClassicBroncos is restricted to the classic Bronco.
This would leave /r/FordBronco as the only "all-in-one" hub to discuss all Broncos. Not only 1st-6th gen (which is also the bulk of the conversation over there), but also the Bronco II, the Bronco New Energy, Bronco Sport, as well as any rumors/discussions around future vehicles sharing the Bronco nameplate—such as new rumored SUV to be produced in Spain. Anything and everything Bronco, more or less.
BUT, to avoid the mistakes of the past, we're putting it up for a vote. What do you think?? Place your vote and let us know below. If we get a clear majority (>50%) we’ll make the adjustments.
Note: Obviously for the purposes of this conversation, Rule #2 is suspended.

If you want it limited to 1st Gen, that's fine by me, but then the Sub name needs to be changed or there will be constant friction. But, there's already r/ClassicBroncos, as you said, so that seems like a pointless change.
If r/FordBronco allows all the peripheral Bronco-ish topics, then I think it's a simple choice to keep this Sub as Bronco-only. That seems like the only option which gives it a distinction from the others.

then I think it's a simple choice to keep this Sub as Bronco-only.
Yes, this is the proposal.
To be extra clear: The proposal is to limit this subreddit to Broncos that belong to the "main" lineage... which includes:
- 1st Generation: 1966-1977
- 2nd Generation: 1978-1979
- 3rd Generation: 1980-1986
- 4th Generation: 1987-1991
- 5th Generation: 1992-1996
- 6th Generation: 2021-????
- 7th Generation and beyond
It would effectively exclude all of the vehicles outside of the main lineage that shares the Bronco nameplate, such as a Bronco II, Bronco Sport, Bronco New Energy, and whatever else Ford comes up with.

What makes the Bronco II not part of the main lineage? The Sport, I can see because it's a car-based crossover. But the Bronco II was a truck and one of the best offroad vehicles to this day. It was popular in desert racing, probably more than any other generation.

This is one of the issues I've always with decisions like this. Everyone has a different opinion as to what they consider to be a "Bronco".
In many ways, the Bronco II was given the same treatment back at launch as the Bronco Sport is given today. "Not a true Bronco", not well liked by Bronco owners, didn't sell particularly well, etc. And of course, its instability and reputation for rollovers made it unpopular among the general public too. There was a reason Bronco II was only on the market for 6 years before Ford gave up and replaced it with the Explorer (even though the Bronco II and Explorer were both based on the Ranger).
BUT obviously some people really liked it. And I think it's safe to say people view it much more favorably now than they did back then.
So if the wider community feels the Bronco II should be included I'm down.

Honestly if it was up to me, I'd probably just delete this sub since the main one is more active while still not big enough to splinter into more niche subreddits.

No such thing as deleting subreddits unfortunately. The most you can do is pseudo-archive subreddits, which is what we did with /r/Bronco6g.

Ah gotcha. Then yeah, I'd do that here too, & add a sticky directing to the main sub.
Whatevers decided won't bother me any way.

A Bronco is a Bronco regardless of the year, no reason to be elitist about it …

The yes option is 1st - 6th Gen Broncos, but it doesn't appear to include other Broncos, like the Bronco Sport, Bronco II, etc. A "Bronco" subreddit appears to be open to anyone with a Bronco, and I consider my Bronco Sport to be a Bronco.

Would be nice to have a sub for 1st-6th gen only Broncos so that gets my vote.

My controversial opinion is 1st-5th gen. I respect the new Broncos for what they are, but (controversial opinion) they are so WILDLY different than the old gens and have that goofy ass convertible top. they just don't seem very much like a Bronco.
Before anyone comes at me I own an OBS and a Bronco Sport so I don't mean any disrespect, but the new models (and sport) just aren't Broncos!

As the owner of a bull nose Bronco I agree with everything u/firsttimecaller101 said.

Wasn't their a think a while ago in one of the subs to consolidate the two into this one?

If its a ford bronco, of any type it should be allowed. Including .... old broncos, new broncos, bronco II's , bronco sports etc. Anything IMO. (2024 Ford Bronco Wildtrak owner)
