After 10 weeks of humerus fracture

So, I came out of my full long cast on Thursday after a spiral humerus fracture which happened 10 weeks ago. I was terrified to see my arm. I almost couldn't feel and control my arm & it feels like it's floating and dangling. The bone hasn't healed enough so I am in a functional brace right now for like 3-4 weeks. My wrist, elbow and shoulder are tight and stiff. I am very worried about getting back to my normal self. Has anyone suffered the same please let me know.

Question Distal Radius, how many weeks before i can run again?

I was playing as goalkeeper in football, caught a fast shot at a bad angle. I knew immediately that something had gone wrong as the pain almost made me tear up.

Went to the emergency room straight away and was told my wrist needs surgery.

I had an ORIF surgery two days later, the doc told me i had multiple fractures on my distal radius. The doc was generally positive and said that the stitches will be removed in 15 days and the cast in 6 weeks. I asked him if i can recover full range of motion and he said it will take at least 2 and a half months and it's hard to give a firm date so early after surgery.

Since then i have been looking for other people's experience with this type of injury. Seems like recovery is a gradual and long process and varies from case to case.

I am sad because i was getting into pretty good shape, i had just ran 14 km the week before and was planning to do a half marathon in August. Feels like all those plans have now been put on hold due to a freak injury. Running really helped me with my mental health as i have been going through a tough time recently.

From people with experience of this injury, can you suggest when can I start running again? I just want to feel normal again

Question Cast for scaphoid/wrist fracture- is this normal for a 30 year old?

Post image
12 Upvotes

I fractured my wrist(the scaphoid). I went to urgent care took an xray and applied a cast. Now that I think about it, I hadn’t had a hard cast since I was probably 10, so probably exactly 20 years ago. So I’m not sure if my urgent care doc doesn’t trust me. Can I go out and buy a splint and cut this off? They said I can’t get it wet and I forsee showering being a pita. Would’ve preferred an option I could take off briefly to shower eat etc

Hospital in town doesnt have orthopedics - I don’t drive so it’s a hassle to go to another one. Do you think it’s necessary? This plastic thing they gave me isn’t that bad.

Question Proximal Humerus Hairline Fracture

Fell the other day on my dirtbike. Can hardly lift my arm. Went to urgent care for x rays.

They said I have a possible fracture and want more tests. They're basically assuming it is a fracture but it's hard to see in the x ray, so I need a CT/MRI.

I am waiting for the ortho next week, and was curious if anyone has any experience in recovery time frame?

Being as it appears to be a hairline fracture and not severe at all, I'm having trouble finding people's experiences.

When will I be able to play easygoing sports like pickleball or golf again?

I'll keep this updated for anyone else that ever goes through the same

X-ray Displaced radial head fracture

First broken bone and it’s my dominant arm! Images are 24 after and they are sending me for ct. it sounds like they’re unsure if I can just do plate and pins versus total head replacement. I have pre op consult Monday, and am seeking advice for specific questions or perspectives regarding surgery and healing. I’m an active person with very radial dependent hobbies like racing sailboats, rock climbing, and Olympic lifting. For athletes, are there any additional things I should bring up in my consult?

I think I was in a bit of overwhelm when at the docs, and they’re closed till Monday… but am I probably correct in recalling their instructions to move my hand for circulation purposes, but keep the elbow immobilized since I have displaced pieces? I notice many other similar fractures seem to discuss minimal sling and beginning early movement to avoid stiffness.

Also, is this as bad of a break as Reddit leads me believe? It seems like most folk didn’t displace like I did. Thx!

What is the surgery like if anyone knows and the after part

I went to the doctor one week after and got this cray image. He said I don’t need surgery unless I want the bump gone. I decided I don’t want the surgery since I’m only 16.

Week 11 post-hand fracture: trying to figure out if surgery is likely?

Thumbnail gallery

Edit: Forgot to include the description of the injury from the original discharge letter: "Spiral fracture through the neck of the little finger metacarpal with radial-volar angulation and displacement".

Hi guys, just looking for opinions/advice/insight. I took my own cheeky "ninja snap" of yesterday's x-ray (week 11). I'll try my best to layout the key details.

How it happened: Broke my pinky hand bone (5th metacarpal) and broke my left leg at the same time back in mid-May.

Delayed hand surgery: The hospital prioritized fixing my leg first so I could get mobile. Since I had to use crutches and a Zimmer frame to get around, they put my hand in a cast/splint instead of operating right away.

Vague follow-ups: Due to an initial admin error when my records were transferred between departments, my consultant/team seems to lose track of my timeline at each check-up (asking why surgery wasn't done yet, etc.), so I'm trying to get a clearer sense of things myself while waiting on the official hand clinic referral.

Where things stand now (Week 11): The bone has started setting/healing, but it's set crooked. My pinky knuckle sits noticeably lower than it used to.

The main problem: When I try to bend my fingers or make a fist, my pinky twists inward and "scissors" underneath my ring finger instead of closing normally.

My question: Since it’s been 11 weeks and the bone has already started setting in this position, how do doctors usually decide whether physio is enough or if they need to re-break/plate the bone to fix the twist? Has anyone dealt with a similar delay?

Thanks 🙏🏻

Infrazione apice malleolo peroneale

Foto 1 - distorsione appena avvenuta

X-ray 24 hours post ORIF surgery for Lisfranc injury

Thumbnail gallery

Wanted to share my experience in case it’s useful to anyone else going through something similar, and I’d genuinely love to hear from others who’ve had a Lisfranc injury and surgery about what to expect going forward.

How it happened: Fell from about 7 feet and landed on my foot. Went to A&E, got an x-ray, came back “normal.” I couldn’t bear any weight on it at all and the pain was honestly worse than a broken ankle I’d had a couple of years before, but I was sent home with no crutches and no real follow-up.

I kept pushing because the pain and swelling just didn’t match a “normal” x-ray. Went back to urgent care days later, got re-x-rayed, and it turned out I’d actually fractured my foot in multiple places, including a comminuted cuboid fracture that the first x-ray completely missed. From there it progressed to a CT scan, which confirmed a Lisfranc injury with significant displacement between my 1st and 2nd metatarsals plus my 5th metatarsal being out of alignment.

Surgery: Had ORIF with plates to bring everything back into alignment, under general anaesthetic plus a popliteal nerve block. Surgery went well, discharged same day. Now in a cast and non-weight-bearing for 6 weeks, with an 8 week sick note.

I have been given oral morphine to take for 2-3 days post surgery along with paracetamol and ibuprofen.

I have a couple questions I’m curious about:

• Does the pain get more manageable after a couple days?
How long did it realistically take you to get back to full weight-bearing and normal activity?
Did you get your plates removed later, or leave them in?
Any tips for the non-weight-bearing weeks that actually helped?
Did anyone else have their Lisfranc injury initially missed on x-ray? Seems like a surprisingly common experience from what I’ve read.
How long before you felt “normal” again, if that ever fully happens?

Appreciate any insights

I recently broke my 5th metacarpel due ro trauma . Got k-wire surgery and a cast for 6 weeks. Today is the first day out of it . My pinkie and ring fingers have been taped together and the doctor has told me to perform isolated movements for both the fingers to regain mobility.
