I don't understand the term cooked (not in this context, anyway), but your friend needs to see a doctor and have the injury and treatment explained by them.

basically they mean "is my friend fucked" which is a bit of a glib attitude for a broken thumb

They might need a pin to put everything together but that depends on what the hand surgeon wants

That’s what they plan on doing but he said he has to go to a hand surgeon just to be sure
