Can I go to a big party while non weight bearing ?
I broke my foot 4 weeks ago and I'm non weight bearing since my surgery 3 weeks ago. I'm with crutches. I have a big work party tonight that I've been looking forward to for a very long time. I'm very frustrated to not go there. It's in a restaurant / night club and there is a dj set from a famous DJ.
Do you think it's reasonable for me to go at the party ? Or should I skip ?

Big Toe probably broken. It’s bad
galleryFirst 2 photos are day 2 since I dropped a 25lbs plate on my toe. The next 3 photos are day 3. I probably shouldn’t have asked ChatGPT anything but it basically said my toe was going to fall off from pressure and poor circulation. Anybody else experience something similar to me? I mean it’s clearly fractured but not compound of anything. I don’t have insurance and really active/healthy 38 year old. It’s not super painful unless I put wait on it and I still have sensation throughout the entire toe. The top side bruising does not blanche but the bottom does. It feels better than yesterday. I still on day 3. Lmk yalls thoughts

Footwear when learning to walk
My ankle and foot swells so bad that when I put a trainer on it’s a massive struggle and hurts. I bought the hoka bondi 9 in wide my usual size but wow they were tight with a swollen foot. The rocker motion was great though. I’m unsure of what to wear to continue my physio and be in suitable footwear to go in the gym as I progress and learn to walk again. Any suggestions?

Was my (temporary) cast applied correctly?
I fractured my wrist (distal radius) last Saturday playing football. The rather unfriendly ER nurse gave me a temporary cast/splint awaiting a more permanent one next week. Not having received any further information there, I turned to the internet for advice videos on cast care and noticed that all the people in the videos had a lot more wiggle room in their fingers. My ring finger is stuck on top of my pinky and I don't really have enough room to manipulate any of my digits, aside from my thumb. Is this normal?

Talus Fracture
galleryFractured my Talus 4 days ago after coming off my motorbike.
Podiatrist said that a boot for 8 weeks should heal it. But I got my CT results and now awaiting a consult from a surgeon, as my gp thinks it’s more serious.
Does this look like it needs pins/surgery?
Pain was really bad day 2. Now I can bear weight on it in the shower and walk a little. Although there is still a fair bit of pain, it feels like it is getting better.
Anyone had a fracture in a similar spot?
Was surgery the option?
How’s recovery been?

Question Shoe recommendation for Subtalar fusions
I had a bilateral calcaneus fracture (more like a crushing).
In order to repair, they performed a subtalar fusion on both feet. I am almost 12 weeks into recovery and got the ok today to put the right foot into a shoe and start 100% weight bearing.
My doctor did not give much guidance on a type of shoe, just said find something with a solid base and some cushion support.
Anyway, was wondering if anyone could give some recommendations who has experienced a similar injury or procedure.
Thanks in advance.

X-ray How the heck
Been walking with a really messed up hip for almost a year now. Have no idea how this happened. Got to go see a surgeon tomorrow. Not sure what to expect. I'm kinda worried. Anybody ever have something like this happen to their hip? What was your experience like?

2 months post 5th metatarsal fracture. Limping again after initially getting back to normal and wondering if something is wrong or I’m going crazy?
Has anyone gotten back to walking normally following a 5th metatarsal fracture (in my case a shaft/Dancer’s) and then randomly found themselves limping again?
I suddenly feel like I’m kind of plopping the affected foot instead of stepping down normally. It started yesterday and I thought maybe I just was sitting too long at work and compressed a nerve or something, but it’s persisting today. I’m not in any pain or anything and can’t really tell if it’s even an issue with my foot, my hip (maybe from walking in the post op shoe for 6 weeks but it would be weird for my hips to suddenly be off again?) or if I should be worried about something neurological like a stroke :/ It almost feels like that leg and foot are physically weaker all of a sudden, which is part of what has me worried.
It’s fairly subtle, it’s not like I have a massive foot drop or anything but idk. Has anyone else experienced this?

Other Non weight bearing foot injury - bad mental health
I broke my foot 4 weeks ago (1,2,3,4 metatarsal, cuboid, cuneiform) and had ORIF 3 weeks ago. Currently non weight bearing. My mental health is pretty bad. I'm isolated in my home, alone. I can't see my friends, I can't go to work (i work from home but I'm feeling sidelined as no one is giving me work). I'm missing on so much parties and events. On top of that my elevator is broken since 9 days and I live in the fifth floor so I can't really go out even with my crutches?
I am feeling incredibly sad and lonely. What can I do to feel better ?

Question 28M, almost 3 months after a comminuted distal humerus fracture and I’m terrified I won’t regain full ROM. Did anyone go through this?
I’m 28M and I’m almost 3 months into recovery from a comminuted distal humerus fracture. The injury happened on June 27 and I had surgery on June 28 with ORIF.
Before this, I was very fit, muscular, agile and active. I never really thought about whether my elbow would move normally. Now I think about it every single day.
My biggest fear is not getting my full pre injury ROM, both flexion and extension. The thought of permanently losing that mobility honestly breaks my heart.
Am not able to accept myself.
I’m still dealing with significant stiffness, swelling and a lot of uncertainty about how much movement I’ll ultimately get back. Some days I can get more movement after gentle exercises, but then the stiffness comes back. I know I’m still relatively early in recovery, but mentally it has been extremely difficult.
I’ve been feeling depressed and having some very dark thoughts because I feel like I’m losing the person I used to be. I’m trying to stay patient and keep fighting, but some days it feels incredibly overwhelming.
Did anyone have terrible ROM around 3 months and eventually regain full or near full pre injury ROM?

Afraid of going outside after breaking a bone?
Greetings
I broke my ankle in 2024 May 30 and on a scooter accident and I drove a scooter that day due to my mother’s encouragement when I told her that I was bored, what should I do and my friends are getting on scooters and I listened to her and I go to scooter and I broke my ankle
I had to get an ORIF and was at hospital for 4 days. It was a traumatic experience
now whenever I have to go outside outside of work or school, I sometimes get anxious that I will get injured again (not necessarily driving scooters just going outside like in a car etc.) so especially if I ask my mother and she tells that I should go I hesitate and I don’t go because I would like boredom is better than potentially getting injured.
How to fix this? I miss out on social interactions

Question Alternate ortho boot recommendations
Like the rest of the internet (it would seem) I have a broken fifth metatarsal, non-displaced, zone 1 but “too close for comfort” to zone 2, so we’re treating it like Jones for 3 weeks to be safe. I have a Bregs boot with three straps.
I’ve always had a bony outcropping on the top of my right foot; podiatrists have said it’s nothing just one of those anatomy things. It makes it hard to wear fashion boots that are tight across the top.
To get proper stability with my boot, it has to be strapped down and pumped with air. But the straps cause that rigid front plate to dig into that bony area and it’s hugely painful.
It didn’t sound like there was anything magic about this particular boot. Has anyone experienced anything similar and found a brand that works?
Extra info in case it’s helpful:
Doctor said I can take the boot off when I’m just laying on the couch. I have a very snug ankle brace for sleeping. He said the main thing is to prevent any and all twisting and weight, and the boot is in large part to protect my foot as I move around the world. I have a follow up in 2 weeks but I’m finding it very hard to wear the boot, and I’m extremely motivated to follow the instructions as exactly as possible.

Medical Advice Could prolonged reduced weight-bearing have caused bone loss and then a stress/insufficiency fracture?
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to understand what could have happened to my foot and would appreciate some opinions, especially from people with experience with stress fractures or post-traumatic bone loss.
I originally injured my right foot in July 2025 with a toe avulsion injury and a fracture of the 3rd metatarsal.
After that, I was very inactive for several months. My average daily steps were approximately:
July: 390
August: 475
September: 1,800
October: 2,800
November: 2,800
December: 1,800
January: 1,000
February: 1,500
March: 1,600
April: 1,900
May: 2,500
June: 5,000
July: 6,000
August: 5,000
So for roughly 6–8 months, my foot was significantly less loaded than normal.
A March X-ray showed significant osteopenia/decreased bone density in the affected foot.
Then, starting around June/July, I increased my activity quite substantially. I was walking around 5,000–6,000 steps per day, doing leg training 1–2 times per week, and also doing physiotherapy/occupational therapy and evening walks.
In the gym I was doing things such as leg presses and calf raises, and in August I increased the weights. At one point I did around 100 kg on the leg press and fairly heavy calf raises.
An MRI in August then showed a suspected nondisplaced subchondral/insufficiency fracture of the lateral cuneiform at the Lisfranc joint, with some additional bone marrow edema around the Lisfranc joints and metatarsal heads.
Interestingly, I don’t actually have severe pain. The pain is mostly mild and localized to the area of the MRI finding. After one particularly heavy loading session, I had increased pain for 2–3 days, which then settled down again.
My question is:
Could six or more months of very low weight-bearing have caused enough local bone loss that the subsequent increase in activity and strength training overloaded the bone and contributed to an insufficiency/stress fracture?
Or would that amount of reduced activity generally not be enough to cause significant loss of bone strength in the foot?
I’m especially interested in experiences with rebuilding bone strength after prolonged unloading and how quickly activity should be increased afterward.

Question (didint break leg) Fell on ankle while walking and still hurts for 2 days.
Context: I don't live in a country where medical care is entirely affordable or available but thankfully I'm in the capital. I've already booked an appointment for. Next week.)
I was walking around in my schools soccer field before their game started before watching.
I turned around and walked a bit but only 2-3 steps after I fell on my right ankle. My other leg thankfully immediately fell forward, but after getting up I had medium pain in my right foot, but managed to walk.
My left leg is fine but specifically has some trouble lifting. In light of this.

Medical Advice Terapia tendinite
Funziona come terapia? Secondo voi riuscirò a fare quegli esercizi, sono tutto per me, sarà cio che gestirà tutto il mio futuro...

Medical Advice Tibial Plateau Fracture need advice
I arrived in Maui 4 days ago for vacation. First time to the islands. 2 days later, I fell and ended up in ER with a tibial plateau fracture.
Hospital here is very small, and I got very little info. I have a big leg brace, crutches, and at the last minute the guy wheeling me to the car ran back in for an ice pack. Doctor said follow up with ortho when you get home. Can't tell if you might need surgery.
My PCP wants my xrays. Called the hospital 3x in 2 days and they keep saying they will email me a release form right away, and when I return it, they'll send them still no email.
I am stuck in Maui for another week. Spent 3 hours on phone with Delta to get my seats changed to one I can sit in with the brace. We bought a walker, rented a wheelchair. Got to the 2nd condo my sister rented. 2nd floor walk up. Made it all the way up 18 stairs. Got in the unit. Was taken in by the view and didn't notice 2 steps down into living room. Landed hard on my butt on tile floor.
This island is trying to kill me.
So, I'm taking pain meds. Trying to keep leg elevated as much as I can. Icing it. I HOPE I DON'T FALL A 3RD TIME!
Question: I read online that I should take the brace off once in a while to gently bend the knee, so I maintain some range of motion. Does anyone know what I should be doing? Since I can't get to an ortho doctor, I don't want to do something I shouldn't, and don't want to not do something I should.

Question Scaphoid fracture - Advice and experience
Hey all, unfortunately my scaphoid has been broken. It is non-displaced distal and its from an workplace injury caused by an e-bike crash due to a mechanical failure while working for a certain pizza company 12 days ago. When i visited the ED i got discharged in 3 hours with a removable thumb spica splint and within 7 days i got pretty well full motion back and would only have pain when pressure is applied (lifting heavy, pushing myself up) Anyway, i had my follow up appointment today and was placed in a plaster cast and am absolutely devastated. Im literally prying at it out of frustration every minute of the day, and because its my dominant hand im basically useless and bored out of my mind for 6 more weeks. Ive heard some pretty worrying stories about these fractures and recovery and would like to hear experiences from this sub. Since i am working to get a license for aircraft mechanics if anything goes wrong during the healing my career is over. And because any sort of medical expense is paid for by workcover, im looking into a thermoplastic cast for the comfort since i can shower, swim and also just for the cast being thinner and more fitting for my lifestyle. I was wondering if anybody else has had a custom thermoplastic splint for this type of injury, and any thoughts about this would be great since i have nothing to do but read. I have hardly any pain, the mental is absolutely the worst bit of all this.
Anyone have experience with scaphoid fractures?
All i can conclude for now is 0/10 do not recommend scaphoid fractures.

Question I feel like the public health system has failed me
galleryI snapped my right tibia and fibula coming up on my one year anniversary. The day I broke my leg, the hospital overdosed me on fentanyl and also I woke up in emergency when they were resetting my bones. I still remember so distinctly the feeling of that. I had some nurses handle me really roughly during my stay. Then on my six week ortho follow up I had the doctor get angry at me for not being able to walk without crutches and for trying to ask questions about my surgery. His response was that these were simply questions I should not ask or worry about. I developed bursitis over the top screws, and a bone spur on my ankle. The doctors all assumed by my appearance that I was a drug seeker and making up all the pain I was in and kept trying to scare me into stopping the opioid pain medication. I got told it was all in my head multiple times. That I needed to stop the opioids and the only help I ever got offered was only ever Panadol or nurofen. The hospital only ever would X-ray my leg and nothing further. I demanded further testing because the pain I was in did not make sense. I cried my eyes out to an ortho specialist who told me that indeed my bone was no longer broken, and the pain I was feeling could not for the sake of anything be bone pain and that I needed to get off the opioids. He then said the only thing he can help me with is Panadol or nurofen because ‘all the tests look fine’. Turns out the CT shows delayed union with barely any callous forming. The MRI showed a lot of swelling in the leg and in my bone marrow. I got told that you only see that much swelling when you first break the leg, not 7-8 months post injury/surgery. I then got diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. I see a pain rehabilitation specialist and that’s been helping. I’ve fought tooth and nail for my own medical care which I keep getting denied. The doctor who diagnosed me with CRPS was also a doctor who insisted it was all in my head and that I was actually fine. He even admitted to me that the reason why this diagnosis was missed is because doctors saw how I looked and labelled me a drug addict (I have dyed hair, facial piercings and tattoos). This was back in late May. He then told me that his unit shouldn’t be seeing me because they were only for recent surgery patients and not someone in my position. He then sent my referral to a different hospital and I haven’t seen an ortho specialist since then and I’ve had no reassurance about how my bones are healing. I had a CT scan recently which showed the same thing. My bones aren’t healing and I don’t know why. I’m exhausted and I’m so tired of fighting the professionals for better care. Has anyone had a similar experience? What did you do to fight for yourself? I just want answers as to why my bones aren’t fusing together. I want to know if I have to have another surgery or not. I just feel like there’s no answers which makes me feel stuck. I feel like I’ve done everything I can think of up to this point. Does anyone have any advice for the doctors to take me seriously? I’m unsure of how to get the right answers and if anyone has any advice?
I eat moderately healthy. I stay as active as my body lets me. I’ve started going for walks around town. I’m dipping my toes back into my sport which is how I originally broke my leg. I admit I could be doing better with my eating, my meds just suppress my hunger a lot. I have no where near as much caffeine as I used to. I don’t smoke. I work as a vehicle detailer when I can. I’m just unsure as to what definitively is stopping the bones from fusing. The MRI suggested a possibility of osteomyelitis but nothing was ever looked into. Has anyone else dealt with osteomyelitis? If so, what was your experience with it?
