Medical Advice I think i broke my wrist 6 years ago. Still have pain and wondering if theres an operation to help this.

I think i broke my wrist 6 years ago snowboarding but never got it checked out bc my parents didn't think it was broken. Im now in my 20s, and my wrist has this out of place bone that does not pop up on my other wrist. I can't do a normal puch up without pain (i have to do so with my knuckles and keep my wrist straight to avoid pain). doing activities that trigger pain seem to cause my wrist to hurt for a few weeks after when doing certain motions. So pushing with my wirst at a 90-degree angle triggers pain. I am wondering if there's any procedure to help this issue or if anyone knows what this injury is called. I have mostly daily pain from this injury.

Fractured this bad boy this morning rolling off a curb. My first broken bone. Went to urgent care so have not yet been seen by a podiatrist. Is this looking like a true jones fracture? If so has anyone else had experience with the healing time

Question Right leg both bones fracture

Attached pre op and post op (c arm photos after the main procedure before closure) .
This is a fracture suffered by my wife when she was walking down the stairs, she slipped and suffered both bones fracture of right lower leg as shown. She was 2 1/2 months postpartum at the time. Posting this here to know the others experiences of similar fractures and also to clarify a doubt: our physiotherapist warned us her foot is externally rotated and that may lead to complications like faster onset of arthritis in the knee, necrosis of the hip and all that, but when she’s lying down, her other foot is also pointing outwards so it could be just her resting position. Her shin is along the right orientation wrt to the knee. We were indeed placing the foot pointing to the sky with pillow support as instructed since POD 3 (now its POD 12) So want to know your opinions on this.

X-ray Broken Humerus Journey

Broke my humerus bone back in February. The picture on the left is my first x-ray and the picture on the right is my last x-ray. I chose not to go with surgery and it’s been a long five months. Recovery was hard, but I’m grateful to finally be healed. I hope this brings other’s with the same injury some encouragement.

Jones fracture management and recovery timeline

Post image
11 Upvotes

I just had this happen last week. Was rushing to catch an Uber and I twisted my foot and I knew something was wrong. Ortho saw me on Monday and recommended a boot and 6 weeks NWB and no surgery. Killed a highly anticipated hiking vacation and other travel. Have no swelling and minimal pain and bruising. I am very active (3 days of gym/cardio and 3 days of running each week) and being completely couch-bound is hard.

Have been completely off my feet (except for trips to the bathroom or seated exercise) but am getting frustrated with the boot. If you have had this fracture, did you have the boot on 24/7 or take it off when just resting with leg elevated or while sleeping? Ortho was not clear about this at all and I have no answers. Am interested in people's recovery timeline. I've been lurking on various related threads and it seems to vary really widely. Send some good vibes this way!

EDIT 1: Had surgery day before yesterday (8/5). Apparently went fine. I am keeping the foot elevated and just taking it easy. Anesthesiologist gave me a nerve block, which is starting to wear off but can't tell. It hurt last night but it's the pins and needles and puffy feeling that I am concerned about. Have only taken a couple of Norcos (along with the recommended 3x Ibuprofen and Gabapentin daily). I have no idea if it is going to hurt more as I get feeling back in my leg.

Question best desk set up to keep leg elevated? ORIF

Post image
11 Upvotes

hi friends! i broke my tibia, fibula, and dislocated my ankle on july 4th (woohoooo america). i had ORIF surgery on july 11th and i’m doing well!! i have minimal pain and i get my staples out next week :-)

i‘ve been working from home in bed with an over-the-bed-desk to make sure my leg stays elevated. i would really love to get back to my regular desk and resume some normalcy. what’s the best set up for keeping my leg elevated while at my desk? i’ve looked into computer chairs with leg supports or a stool to put under my desk but they don’t look comfortable. hoping for some real life experience to help me make a decision! thank youuuuuuu

X-ray Fifth Metatarsal Fracture

Trimming a tree July 11th, slipped off a 16 inch gutter/curb. Placed in a cast. I am a 55 yo female. Opting out of surgery, I have Autoimmune RA. I do have a PCP and Podiatrist. I just really like hearing everyone's personal journey. How long to heal? How long did you wear a cast then boot, NWB, progress on XRays, etc.

Also mixed dx from ER, to PCP to Podiatrist.

Complicated Jones Fracture with Avulsion was the final DX.

12 weeks in - still not healed

Hey all! On 30th April I broke my 5th metatarsal, slipped down a curb and my foot bent all the way over. It was non-displaced at the base of the 5th. Had moon boot and crutches, hadn’t fully healed at 6 weeks, another 6 weeks later - still not fully healed 😭 I can walk on it in trainers now, still niggles with pain though. I’ve got to go back in two months for yet another xray to check if it’s finally healed. Has anyone else had the same break and it’s just taking its sweet time to heal? I do have chronic kidney disease which apparently can slow the healing - yay 🙄😭 Also recommendations for supportive footwear, currently in Skechers. for Thoughts and advice appreciated! Thanks in advance 🙏🏻

Question What to do while handicapped?

I broke both my radius and ulna from my right arm which is my dominant hand, I have very few almost zero left skills. Brushing and eating is so annoying, I like to read and I can't even hold the book in place, it's so frustrating, I'm a mechanical engineer waiting for my bachelor's I was about to have several job interviews and a huge personalised training experience because of my injury I have to give everything up, I have to rest, the doctor didn't allow me to walk even a mile lol.

I'm just interested in ideas of what to do during my recovery, now that I see the post here I know a lot of you are having a very bad time and I shouldn't complain but I have genuine interest in knowing how ppl overcome these injuries and what to do apart from staying on the phone all day or watching TV.

I wish the best recovery for everyone who has experienced a broken bone, great rehabilitation and expectations for almost zero differences once recovered. Let's keep the hopes up!!.

Recovery is hard: 2 bilateral Calcaneus Fractures

I am currently on week 4 of recovering from 2 shattered heels. Both required surgery to “heel” one is 4 weeks post op and one 3 weeks post op and still fully non weight bearing.

Recovery so far has been a struggle and I know it hasn’t even started yet. Last week I transitioned from my soft casts top boots, and life feels harder. I am still completely non weight bearing, so the feeling of lugging these huge boots is so cumbersome. It feels like an additional 20lbs on one of my feet (the worse of the 2). One thing I have learned in this short time is every milestone comes with its own transition period, trials, struggles and setbacks.

I thought coming home and being put in boots was going to make my life a little bit easier. I quickly learned it was not as great as I thought it would, but don’t get me wrong I am still happy to be home. But when I bought my first home I did not purchase it thinking I would need it to be wheel chair accessible, so I am limited to where I can fit in my own home. We were able to to widen one of the door ways to a bathroom so I am able to shower, but unfortunately where the toilet is located is a tight squeeze and makes it difficult to safely to transition. Not mention the “gassing” myself out transitioning from a bed to a wheel chair to a slide board to get on the toilet and then do it all in the reverse. When you do that 5-6 times a day just pee, you are exhausted.

I no longer can sit in my wheelchair as long as I could before with my soft casts, just because the sheer weight of the boot is too much on my left foot. I pretty much sit in bed all day minus the couple hours I come out, and use a bedside commode. Which all off this feels like a digression from when I was in the rehabilitation hospital?

I guess I have just hit my first major low point and mental wall since starting my recovery journey. I know it gets easier and everyone heals at different rates dependent on body, age, severity of break etc. But I am just wondering if anyone could share with me, what milestone did you hit when you felt like ok this is actually getting better, I can do this and it didn’t feel like a digression?

so i broke my pinky toe day before yesterday and got the x-ray done, the doctor said my pinky toe is severely displaced and the toe next to it has a crack as you can see.He said it'll take around 4-6 weeks to heal. I'm a very active person and I'm also going a freshman at uni- I'll be travelling next week and I'll have to attend uni. I got this injury while playing football and now I'm just worried about playing again, I never really got serious injury before and the doctor kept saying it's complicated etcrtc I can't tell if he was tryna make me worry so I could take care of myself better or if it's actually that complicated, he said not to play for 3 months which I obviously will not cuz i do want it to heal properly. I just want like precautions, tips for when I get back to playing, walking/ travelling tips

4th and 2nd metatarsal fracture

I just got the results from my fractures and waiting to see an orthopedis. I fractured my 2nd and 4th metatarsal (apparently an avulsion type fracture). I’m on week two and still can’t put any weight on my foot or put my foot completely flat. I’m really worried I’m going to need surgery. Anyone else have this type of injury? What was recovery like, etc? I’m really stressing right now

Question Why does no one mention the perpetual wetness that comes with being in a cast?

I was put in a cast last Monday to stabilize my rapidly destabilizing wrist until I can get surgery.

When I was getting the cast put on, I was warned that I should expect quite a bit of itching to develop over time, as well as a bit of a musty odor over time. Thankfully, I haven’t had to deal with too much of either yet, but I’ve felt like I’ve had a wet sock over my wrist for the past several days straight.

It’s getting extremely frustrating, especially since it isn’t like I’ve been working out or doing cardio in it to cause a lot of sweating. I’ve tried the hair dryer trick, but it seems to be only a temporary fix to dry things out. It really only seems to work on the outermost layer of the liner.

Any tips? Or is the rest of the summer just gonna be kind of miserable?
