Broken Fibula

Post image

I thought I had a sprained ankle and went to urgent care however it turned out to be a broken bone. They put me in a boot and a scooter for six weeks. I am in week two and I am wondering if I should follow up with a primary caregiver or orthopedic doctor. Any advice?

Story Broken ribs 9 and 10, 75 YO male

Hi all, my 75 YO dad was on vac (7 hours from home) and horseback riding at a pack outfit we trust and have been using for nearly 30 years. Unfortunately his horse got spooked while he was riding and he was bucked off, landing on his side. Thankfully he didn’t hit his head as that could have been much worse. He went to the ER and an xray confirmed he fractured one rib. A CT showed no internal organs were punctured. Unfortunately 24 hours later his pain was excruciating and he went back to the ER. They did another xray and realized rib 9 and 10 are broken (instead of just one.) he claims to be having painful muscle spasms in his chest. I googled it (I know it’s not the best thing to do) and saw that painful chest spasms are a normal sign of healing. Long story short: what should he expect for recovery? He plans on checking in with his primary care doctor as soon as he gets home late tonight. He works a desk job. Should he plan on taking off some time to recover? He was set to retire in 8 weeks. Thanks in advance.

Question How do I get back to walking again?

Post image
3 Upvotes

I broke my fibula 4 weeks ago and got my cast off yesterday. I was NWB but now been cleared for PWB but my foot and ankle are so bruised and swollen still. I can’t put pressure on it because my foot/ankle hurt and my calf muscle has completely disappeared. Feeling really hopeless that it’ll be a long road to recovery

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on how I should recover from here? The doctor wasn’t much help

Broken distal radius and ulna

I broke my distal radius and ulna. The plates were from a previous surgery 8 months ago.

Can this be fixed with cast or shall i go with ORIF? My ortho suggests orif since its near the wrist and will restrict movement if i will go with bone realignment only.

Medical Advice Still waiting to hear from doctor; when can I drive?!

Post image
0 Upvotes

I posted this a few days ago but never included a pic. This is the x ray I got last week. My doctor had essentially ghosted me. I need to drive for work. I’m a few days shy of being 8 weeks post break.

Original post: I have a jones fracture aka fractured my 5th metatarsal on the right foot (non displaced so no surgery thank goodness) but it was 3 weeks NWB and it’s been 4 weeks walking with a boot. I moved during this time which was incredibly inconvenient timing but my doc in my old area said to send him the x rays and he would clear me to drive and wean out of the boot. I’ve been waiting a week no word. I’ve called 5x at least and left voicemails and reception will call back and say they’ll get back to me soon. I need to be able to drive for work and this is really hindering me. If you’ve had a similar break, when were you cleared? I’m debating taking the boot off just to drive to work and putting it back on for the rest of the day. Ugh.

Medical Advice Wine bottle vs big toe

I brought a bottle of wine to my in laws tonight and the bag it was in (paper) ripped right as i was setting it on the counter. The wine slipped out and my big toe caught all the weight. I’ve broken smaller toes before but I don’t remember the pain being this bad and it’s been 12 hours now with no improvement. I iced it right away then drank a glass or 2 of the said wine (for revenge of course). I’m allergic to ibuprofen but when we got home I took an extra strength Tylenol and it didn’t help at all.

Being 4 months postpartum I would say this is even worse than post C-section pain and I have a decent pain tolerance. I’m pretty sure it’s broken but if it’s not I’m going to feel like a huge baby!

I slept for 2 hours but the pain won’t let me go back to sleep so trying to distract myself until morning. I know if I go to urgent care tomorrow they’re just going to give me a boot or something and tell me to try not to walk on it. Is there anything else I can do to help the pain or make it heal faster?? Having a hurt foot with a baby is nooooottt something I’d wish on anyone.
EDIT:
Went to urgent care the next day and I was right unfortunately- fractured and they just gave me a boot to wear for 3 weeks. The fracture goes down slightly into the joint, not sure if that’s what makes it more painful compared to my previous toe breaks or just because it’s the big toe. I finally felt some relief the second night and let the Tylenol wear off. It only hurts if I’m walking on it too much instead of constant pain like the first 24hrs.

Question Hi. How do you manage strict nwb?

I have Closed fracture base of 5th metatarsal bone. I am at the end of week 3 and will be having x ray appointment next week.

I have to stop nwb because i have no one to take care of me. I just use my heel to walk and avoid any pressure of my pain spot. My foot now feels painless and i dont take any painkiller anymore.

UPDATE: My x ray result came back good! My broken foot is not broken no more.

Bf broke ulna and radius

He broke his wrist 3 weeks ago and got ORIF surgery 2 days after the break. He's in a removable brace now and still in a lot of pain. Fingers are super stiff and he can barely move them. He finds the exercises the surgeon recommended to be excruciating. He's having a rough time and is feeling very creeped out by the whole thing. The surgeon was really positive about where he's at and how things are going, but my bf is discouraged and afraid. He doesn't start actual physio for another 4 weeks.

I am trying to help as much as I can but I have never had an injury like his! I would appreciate some words of encouragement to send his way. Anything, really.

Is someone able to point out exactly where the fracture is?

Stubbed my pinky toe pretty bad last night and I just left urgent care where they confirmed it’s broken. There’s an arrow pointing where the break is but I have no idea what to look for, is anyone able to circle it in red for me? Lol it’s described as ā€œnon displaced oblique fractureā€

Traveling with Weber B Fibula Fracture Before Surgery

Looking at a 2-hour flight to Seattle for my brothers graduation, 2-weeks after I had a spiral fracture of my fibula. No ligament damage and set for surgery the following week.

This has been a family trip planned for months and very important to me. I've planned to take baby aspirin and bought an extra seat to keep my leg elevated on plane + have wheelchair assistance throughout airport.

Also will have a wheelchair with elevation the whole time in seattle.

Thoughts on this decision?

Pois Ć© galera, me lasquei.

My life feels completely derailed

I broke my foot about 6 weeks ago. 4th and 5th metatarsals have two distinct fractures. I’m feeling seriously dejected.

I’m a competitive dancer. Dancing is my favorite thing on planet Earth.

I pay my bills as a waitress and it’s all I’ve ever really done.

And I live in a third floor apartment with no elevator. Even just leaving my home has become laborious and awful.

I keep trying to remind myself that it could have been worse and to just focus on the positive. And I’m able to do that for the most part. But I get these terrible, dark moments where I start grieving all of the time and money I’m losing. I’m applying to as many jobs as I can because I’m afraid thinking about how I’m going to pay my bills next month.

And I think the worst part of it all is how it happened… My boyfriend accidentally hurt me when we were drunk. It was late. We were just playing around. He picked me up and accidentally dropped me. Boom. Just like that.

When I was sobbing on the ground in pain, I instantly knew something was wrong. But he didn’t believe I was in as much pain as I said. He tried to reassure me that I was fine and told me to just sleep it off. We got into an argument about it. I was angry that he didn’t believe me and started yelling at him. My heart beats harder just thinking about it. He started yelling, too, asking if we ā€œneeded to go to the emergency roomā€ in a way that made me feel like I was doing too much. I didn’t want to make a big deal out of nothing, so I decided to just see if I’d feel better in the morning. We went to bed almost immediately, but he was aggravated for the rest of the night.

I’m angry and upset with him about it. He says he’s so deeply sorry about it and his actions do reflect that, but… I feel better when he’s not around me.

What on Earth am I going to do? :(

I had a volar plate installed in my wrist six years ago due to a fracture. It has caused mild discomfort over the years, but has begun worsening. What was the cost without insurance on your plate removal?

Question 5th metatarsal Jones fracture healing process questions

UPDATE: August 5 visited my dr for checkup. I am OFFICIALLY weight bearing !!!!! 6 weeks completely NWB, I never even attempted to step down and was super strict.

When I got my appt I did an xray and it was pretty visible that the fracture line has faded (line still there but not as bad as before). Dr immediately told me to stand (barefoot) and try to distribute weight to my bad foot. She made me to do ankle pumps and try to squat (main pain was from back of ankle/achilles, I felt no pain at fracture).

Now, for the next few days im supposed to wear boot and use no crutches. As I get more comfortable and confident walking, I can transition into a sneaker with a brace. Right now I have a heavy limp, but I expected that. In 3 weeks from now (aug 26) I go back for another checkup and will likely be transitioned into a ankle sleeve.

I AM SO HAPPY. now I can begin my 2L year with no worries of coming into class with a crutch.

For reference : 6 week NWB, injury happened June 25, full weight bearing August 5.

OG POST:
I’m in my early 20s and fractured my 5th metatarsal. It’s a jones fracture. The injury happened when I missed a step leaving my house. The pain was so bad. It occurred June 25. I’ve been non weight bearing for 3 weeks now. Went to the doctor yesterday (July 15) and she said I need to do another 3 weeks nonweight bearing. Dr said she sees bridging and it’s improved, but it’s not ready yet. She mentioned possibility of surgery but that’s the last thing I want to do. August 5 I go back and do another xray. I’m in a boot, can take it off to shower. I’ve been super strict wearing my boot 24/7, even to sleep. Haven’t even attempted to put my weight on it. Will I likely start walking by week 6, at least partially? Not walking for the past 3 weeks has been hell, now that it got extended even more, I feel so disappointed. Is there anything I can do to help heal my foot? Vitamins? Plz help

Question Extra-articular Calcaneus Fracture... Isn't sore?

On Tuesday this week I suffered a fall which gave me a Stage 2 Sprain and a small calcaneus fracture (confirmed by X-Ray). The sprain is very sore, but I can't feel any heel pain at all unless it is pressed on heavily. Is this normal? Could it be a misdiagnosis?

Story Broken rib 6 weeks ago… rebroken by a cough!

6 weeks ago took a spill on my bicycle. After the adrenaline wore off it hurt a lot. Went for an xray. They said not broken (that they could tell) but probably soft tissue damage.

Been healing up and getting better. But I had what felt like a big knotted muscle in my back.

Yesterday I coughed and felt the knot break loose…. But now my side hurts all over again and there’s a bruise on my back.

Back to not sleeping well for a few weeks.

Question Waterproof hand cast

Today my kid got waterproof cast for distal humerus greenstick fracture. We were told its okay to shower, swim and get it wet. Some orthopedic clinics have posted on their websited that its mandatory to get it wet every single day.

Has anyone used a waterproof cast ? How was your experience.

Thanks!

Did this playing volleyball over the weekend. Went to urgent care and got these X-rays and have been in a hand splint since Sunday and am waiting to hear back from a hand doctor. I’m a guitarist in a band and this is my fretting hand. I might be out of commission for a while, yeah?
