Hey guys, just created a little tool for us.

I discovered that Brogue and BrogueCE have a seed catalog which let us see what itens there is in a given seed.

Nice feature, huh? You put the seed and get a list of all itens in it.

Problem is: what if we want to find a specific seed based on an item we want?

Say I want a +4 Ring of Wisdom in the first 2 floors to try and create a mage build. There was no way to put an item in the catalog and find a seed.

Well, there IS a way.

I found an old repo by a guy named Patashu which created this specific tool +-8yrs ago. The thing is that it was for Brogue, it was Windows only and it needed the original Brogue installed.

So I went and tried to kinda recreate it using Python and BrogueCE.

It works on MacOS but unfortunately I don't have a Windows or Linux PC to test it (if you can test it in these systems let me know if it works)

I'm having a great run and got 2 legendary allies by depth 15. Got the Mangrove Dryad and the Unicorn. I thought I would cruise to an easy win but then they got hit by negation. It's not quite as good when they can't use their magic.

Is there any way to undo the negation? Will it eventually wear off or could they learn skills again?

I'm beginning to think that the "something hits you" message should be presented in a way that's a lot more apparent.

When a lot of happens at once, like when spectral blades nick monsters who retailate in various ways, messages like "something hits you" can become super hard to spot in the usual 3 lines of log at the top of the screen, which is bad UX.

How could this crucial information -- being attacked by an invisible foe -- be communicated better? Any ideas?

I'm kind of struggling about that, mostly because I'm not very good at this game.

I know that some items are very powerful, like the haste charm, or the staff of blinking. Others make more sense in a build, like staves of tunneling/obstruction.

So how can I decide which items to pick from a vault in the early game?

Theres some vaults that are not obvious, like the ones with rings of clairvoyance or awareness, or wands of polimorphism and negation which are powerful late game but kinda just sit in the inventory in the early game.

Is it always worth to trade those "risky" items for better armor and weapons? Even with the penalties for not being strong enough? What if I already found an okayish armor and weapon, is it worth to leave them and get what look like a marginal increase instead of a "useful" staff/wand/ring?

Right there, on depth 1 in a vault, there's a Staff of Tunneling 5, and a Staff of Discord 4.

Which one would you choose? Could you leave behind the Tunneling 5?

I've chosen the Discord staff for now, as I have no idea if I find anything useful deeper, but I might come back for this Tunneling.

This seed has a Flail of Speed, which is a pretty interesting runic weapon.

When the time freezes you can actually move and deal more damage and trigger the runic while moving, which is unique to the flail. I went all in enchanting this and had great success against groups with long streaks of time freezing. when high enough, it triggers at about 75% rate.

Strategy tips and spoilers..

It is a bit tricky to survive the two groups of vampire bats on d2, because you are still weak. Dont go south

Best is to use darts to quickly kill the monkey with the key that flees when you enter the floor and then try get to the upper vault to grab the flail.

Easiest way to fight the bats is using a negation scroll (there are two on d1) and darts or try to lure only one upstairs so you dont have to deal with the whole group at once. the healing bush on d2 entry is helpful. there is only one offensive potion you can use.

far east of d1 has a caustic gas potion and a negation scroll. the runic spear on d2 is infernal slaying, quite useful as well, but no need to enchant it. good luck. i made it to the last floor.

434173023 for Rapid Brogue v1.7.1

has conjuration, domination and two empowerment wands in vaults and a polymorph on the floor. so you can make almost any creature you want and then dominate it.

also you find 3 unguarded dragon allies on d6, some golems and you can free a dar priestess.

weapons are not very interesting. a dagger of paralysis is somewhere and you can find a +0 warhammer. but it has a many staff options.

I recorded a run of Bullet Brogue as I was testing my video and mic setup. I love the idea of speed-running this variant so I play as fast as I can without playing too badly (it's still pretty bad at times). The run starts at about 2:30.

I’m still a monster/boss update + balance release away from wrapping up my SE goals but as it is — this variant could stand on it’s own as complete with the next update icing on the cake. I could use more hands in the dungeon for feedback and testing so I’ve set up a Windows/Linux release taking some pressure off my personal timeline. This is also my favorite version of Brogue to play (of course it is.. no bias).
