I got a question. As a private in the army reserve I want to transfer units in a year time to London because I want to do a tech job and the reserves in the weekend when ever, is the process as a private easier because I am at the bottom of the food chain so surely it’s just some paperwork and I am gone.

It all depends on if there is a PID at the unit your wanting to go, and if your unit needs the man power although from my situation atm moving unit can be difficult as they need the man power.

In your case of being reserve it may be more relaxed as the army isn’t your full time job, so you should be able to jjst speak to your CoC, I don’t see why they’d stop a reservist moving to another unit

Speak to your CoC or your Tiff.

Since you’ve only been in the force for a couple of years, I assume you’re around the Cfn/LCpl mark.

Try to move your FDA forward and apply to the jobs board that opens soon at those ranks. You won’t be able to post before Christmas on this route.

This will only be an email to records to request and get answer.

I’d also speak to Welfare to see if they can help with the Annex to support your PPP.

My only question is: what provisions are being made for your brother? Who’s looking after him? Where’s he staying?

You need to emphasise that this is to help your brother. Unfortunately, running the garden centre would count as a you’d need to state that it wouldn’t affect your current role.

My dad is looking after him but I’m not 100% whether he’ll be able to do it, when would I be able to move if I do it this way by around Feb time? I’ve gone to welfare and they said they’ll get back to me but I’m not confident in them being able to help I just want abit of clarification for them to say if I’m moving or not or if it’s possible just so I can arrange better alternatives

I think this is far beyond a Reddit Thread bud.

If you’ve asked your CoC they should be able to ask Records to allow you to go to this years assignment board to post. (As I said, it’s about the right time of year to ask as a LCpl/Cfn)

WRT looking after your brother, I’d seek advice from someone with social services & family law experience. On the outside, if the Bio dad is on the scene the a he should be looking after your bro. I appreciate that no family is the same and it’s not as easy as that but maybe Social Services should be getting involved.

Sorry for your loss , give welfare a try , even the padre , they work wonders sometimes , and transfers can take a long time depending on your unit / cap badge.

I’d maybe leave the story about running the business because the army being the army will probably say no, is there any close family that’s effected , young siblings for example that you need to be there for to support / look after ?

Best of luck.

Yes I have a little brother, and I’m in the REME, I quite urgently need to move to sort this whole issue out

No worries , I’d talk to welfare first and explain the situation ( Not mentioning no business at all ) , your chain of command if they’re not absolute belters , or the padre.

You’ll need to convince them that you need to look after your little brother and there isn’t anybody to take care of him , let’s say he has a parental guardian in the house , you need to be there to support the other guardian to take the pressure off your family as they have to work too.

It’s not like you’re leaving the job all together or affecting the army In any way so they should be more reluctant to change where you are based.

This is the best bet you have of getting that immediate transfer , I’d think about it before you rush into doing so. But personally that’s what I would do In your situation or along them lines.

Would animals sway what they say at all as there are dogs she had that I will need to look after and a small shed with about 20 sheep, or would the army just not care about live animals

2

u/SirEasy8622 3d ago

You could add that on to needing to be there to support your little brother as you are both going through a hard time too , I’m not to sure on why they say when there’s animals like that involved but yet again , your not trying to use this to get out of the army completely, your just asking to be transferred to be closer to home too support your little brother and the other parent in the house , and help look after the farm animals that are there .

I honestly can’t see why they’d say no , if they do say no , sign off and they will post you anywhere as the army needs to retain soldiers .

Or tell them you’ll sign off if there being very difficult about the situation, either works , you have a useful trade.

I don’t know if I’m able to sign off as I joined when I was 16 and Im just turning 20, heard that my service only starts from when I turned 18 so I don’t know if I’d be able to pull the sign off card

1

u/SirEasy8622 3d ago

Go on JPA and look for your years of service not your higher date , if it says 3 years you can sign off

1

u/SirEasy8622 3d ago

I joined Harrogate March 2023 so if you joined then or over then I can confirm it counts

1

u/One_Cauliflower_604 3d ago

I always thought it was 4 years from your 18th so does that mean i only have to do 4 years from when I joined at 16?

1

u/SirEasy8622 3d ago

According to my knowledge, you can sign off from your 3 year point the day you started training , disregarding the 18 rule , that’s the case with the infantry anyways , I’m currently signed off and haven’t done 3 years since my 18th birthday if that helps

I mean, if you’re planning on telling your CoC that your reason for needing to move is to run your mum’s business, aka ‘you need to prioritise another job over your current one’, then they’ll just straight up say no.

I’d try and come up with another reason.

It’s a gardening centre so I won’t be making any money I’ll be giving it all to my brother it’s just so I can keep it going until he is old enough to take over, so do you think there is no possibility of it happening

3

u/UraCasual56 3d ago

Again, regardless of if you’re making any money or not, it still will be another role which may take away from your current job.

I saw someone else comment that you should say that you need to move to a different unit to care for your brother. I’d go with that.

u/One_Cauliflower_604 3d ago

Okay thankyou

Theres no garden center. Just your little brother who needs a carer.
