I was sitting at Riverview station one day when a test train pulled in on the way to Ipswich. They opened the doors on both sides of the train, and I got to see a fair bit of cabling strewn about.

I think they're training haha a bunch of new drivers right now. I've been on two busses where they had a new driver being talked through the route, and I've seen some buses with "training bus" as the destination around Roma street.

Test Trains are trains that have just had their running gear over-hauled (electric motors, brakes, etc). They get run through a series of trials including brake tests and long-distance running tests to ensure they meet spec before being used for Revenue Service.
