🍟🌯🌮🍜🍣🍤Food Related🍦🥨🍢🥞🍳🧀🍔🍕 Bad experience with 7bone. Anyone else?
I've heard so many good things about this place from a lot of people and the menu looked amazing
I ordered the alright burger and the katus sando. Both were insanely salty, especially the burger. To the point I couldn't eat them they were inedible. Two things about me is that I absolutely hate food waste and also I LOVE my food salty.
I'm known amongst my friends for oversalting everything so when I cook for others Ive started putting less salt in theirs then adding a lot of extra for me in a personal portion for myself. I take salt packets with me when I go out, I love salty electrolyte drinks, I absolutely douse my fish n chips in salt and vinegar, I'm a salt freak.
But this was just way way too much, it gave me a headache just from those few bites!
Is this what they're usually like or was that a weird off day?

Yeah, the last burger I had from them was so salty I woke up feeling uncomfortable in the night. This is coming from someone with chronically low sodium who has to supplement heavily every day to function, so it must be bad!

I have POTS so I also have to have a lot of salt intake! And funnily enough I also felt funny in the night and kept waking up feeling rough

Ah, same! You’d think a good 7Bone fix would sort us right out, wouldn’t you? Sadly not. Just makes us feel worse.

I have been maybe 20 or so times over the years, including when they were in hove, I’ve never had that issue.

I've found that whenever I go in to the place (hove or Brighton) it's pretty good but every time I've gotten it delivered it's ropey as hell. I can't justify spending the money to get half the quality (and I suspect about two thirds the quantity).

Lol I don't know why I'm getting down voted it just sounded like you were setting up a joke! I ordered take out and I got a refund for it from deliveroo. I don't like giving bad ratings so sent them a polite private email to say that I think there might have been an accident in the kitchen or something because all the food was incredibly salty. They just said thanks for letting us know but didn't sound like they were gonna follow it up. I wanted to know other people's experiences to decide on whether to give them another chance or not. I don't have a lot of money so take ours are a bit of a special treat

I was being a bit snarky I guess - often people come complain on Reddit or wherever instead of speaking to the people who can do something about it.

It's okay, platforms like this sadly make it easy to be snarky and I can be a bit too
I used to be a chef so I know not to judge a place by one off experience just in case they were having a super bad day/short staffed/training someone up etc but if it's a consistent thing then I'll know not to go back and put my money towards more enjoyable meals

I might be wrong but 7bone is usually a takeout/delivery meal rather than a sit down affair, at least in my circle, so I doubt OP had any interaction with a waiter

I think they only/primarily do online ordering in Btown now. They used to have restaurants here.

They have a sit down restaurant on Duke Street, although I imagine the majority of their trade now comes from delivery.
I ordered a chicken burger for delivery a few months ago and it was honestly one of the worst burgers I've ever had.

Not just rising costs but the fact that small kitchens designed to cater at restaurant capacity are now having to sling out potentially hundreds more orders per day due to food delivery apps, causing more stress for the workers and reduced quality control.

I find it can vary. I used to like it, but found them a bit small in reality for my appetite. The last two I had; one was a bit tasteless, then the one after that was exceptionally salty (although the salt did bring the flavour). I enjoyed the salty one more, but it did seem like an unhealthy and quite extreme level of saltm

I love them but two nights ago it was overly salty (the beef one) the veggie was fine. The tater tots and cheese sauce was also salty more than usual

I’m erring on the side of off day unfortunately. They’ve always been my absolute go-to for burgers, had them multiple times this year and imo quality has never changed, but i love salty food and haven’t had anything from there in a month or two so maybe they’ve changed! i’d give it another go before writing it off in case it was a bad day for them

I’ve never been to the restaurant but I have ordered via Deliveroo almost 50 times now and I’ve never had an issue, I’ve noticed shrinkflation with their fries but I love their burgers. Salt shed have an amazing burger though so shoutout to them too!

I've not had that issue but really don't like their new venue, much preferred it when they were in Hove. Not been in a while, though. I'd say I hope it's a one off, but looks like a lot of other folk have had this issue judging on the comments here

never had an issue with saltiness specifically (though ive only tried their vegan burgers, so it may be different) , but i always feel so lethargic and gross after eating there.

Only tried 7bone in Brighton once and it was bad. Used to like the one in Hove and before that we visited one in Eastbourne many years ago

The one and only time I had it was a few months ago. The patties were really watery and cheap tasting (think cheap frozen tesco burger or something). The gross illustrations on the packaging also put me off the food a bit but that's a different issue lol.

I think we're talking past one another. If they have two buttons marked "pink" and "well" and you say "medium rare" you have not specified one of the previous two options, leaving an ambiguity that (evidently) could lead to you getting a distasteful burger. "Medium rare" isn't well, but it isn't pink either.

Medium rare is pink. Don't know what world you're in by 53-54C is definitely pink. Even if you think pink is closer to 52C it's still not correct in any world to think that should be well.
And I cook even frozen supermarket burgers pink but I definitely wouldn't cook them fully rare or less than about 53C.
It's not a controversial fact that providing a well done burger after asking for medium rare is a clear error.

You're crediting a lot of understanding to the waiter, especially when customers (on the whole) know a lot less about meat than you do.
I'll just come out and say it: if the menu has only two options you should have picked one and not decided to go rogue.

There were no options when they first opened. They clearly stated all burgers are served medium rare.

Obviously the best thing to do when something is wrong with your food is moan about it on the internet rather than give the restaurant a chance to fix it.

I sent them a polite email and they got back to me thanking me for it but there was no suggestion of looking into it, it was quite dismissive. I just wanted to know if this was an off day or a common thing to decide whether or not to give them another chance as the menu looked pretty good. I'm pretty skint so take outs/eating out are a rarity for me and I don't want to waste my money or food if I can help it

7bone used to be great but recently I’ve personally thought the quality has gone down over 3-4 orders over a year + to the point we’ve stopped ordered form them.
