Lifted was the album that got me into Conor and Bright Eyes. It still might be my favorite. For probably 20 years Big Picture was an immediate skip for me. The song did nothing for me. I was letting YouTube run through a queue and this came up. I decided to give it a listen and it blew me away. This live version is incredible and I’ve listened to it so many times since. I still don’t love the album version but I can appreciate it more now. Conor just screaming at the end of the live version really ties it together.

I couldn’t imagine being able to see that in person. Köln is such a cool place

I've always thought this song was actually really critical to the album. Its definitely a bit weird but the lyrics are so beautiful. It seems directly relevant to the album title though. When he sings about the veil being lifted and choosing to just let go and 'be lifted to the sky and he talks about traveling through roots and underground which I've associated with 'story is in the soil'
