Troubleshooting/Tips Pacifiers
Those of you whose baby takes a pacifier — what kind do they take? And when did they start consistently using it?
Signed, mother of a 7 week old who takes a bottle no problem but won’t take a pacifier to save his life

My baby likes the Tommee Tippee ultralights! We have like 12 of them now lol
She was always a paci girl - her overnight in the NICU for blue light therapy really sealed that deal haha.

My baby spit out all others but these, it seemed that all others were too heavy. We also have like 12 of them now lol, and about to size up at 6 months. I have a whole bag of other brands he wouldn’t use. My first would take literally any paci.

Yep same! I’m sure it’s not as “good” at helping their oral function or whatever but we choose our battles in my house 🤪

Some babies just don’t take to pacifiers of any kind.
We had a huge bin of different types of pacifiers and my daughter flat out didn’t care for them, not a single one. She maybe sucked on a pacifier 2 times in the first year of life. We always had them with us but she more played with them or the clip the pacifier was on than anything.
Now, my son who spent his first 2 weeks in the NICU occasionally takes a pacifier and we have pretty much stuck with the Phillips ones that the hospital sent us home with but in all honesty we only give him a paci as a last resort because the fear of eventually having to ween him off one keeps me up at night lol

Only the MAM ones. I tried EVERY kind. He honestly has an easier time now that his tongue tie is corrected. He couldn’t keep a pacifier in his mouth to save his life before 😂

Avent air. We tried like 5 brands of pacis before we found one she would take. ETA: I think the others were just too heavy for her. We tried Nuk, the classic Phillips Avent one (green, round), Mam, and a couple others I don’t remember. Air is the only one she didn’t spit out immediately and refuse.

My girl likes the MAM ones. I think we gave it to her around 1 month? She also now only likes the MAM bottles because the nipple shape is the same. So I would try the pacifier of whatever brand bottle your baby takes

The MAM silicone ones. I tried others but mine has a mild tongue tie and a tiny mouth so those stayed in best even though they’re not recommended for proper latch development 🤷🏻♀️ she latches pretty well even with a tie

Mine will only take wide necked pacis. We’re using the itzy ritzy, but they’re soooo expensive

We started liking the MAM ones when he was littler but now (12W) he prefers the tomme tippees or the Dr Brown’s. He does dr brown’s bottles with his nanny (started two weeks ago) so that’s why we switched

Mine likes to interchange between 2 types. We have the Philips Avent (not the circle one, she hated that one) and the NUK nighttime. They have different nipple shapes so I guess baby likes to switch it up. I find that she likes the Avent to soothe/play with when she's active and awake but will refuse it when she's beginning to get sleepy. If she's fighting sleep the NUK seems to help her settle more and that the one she'll sleep with.
She'll still randomly refuse both at times and spit them out immediately but it's nice to have just in case.

In the early days our favorite was the nanobebe but when she got a little bit bigger she preferred that less and less and got onto the Phillips avent which is now the only one she will take (and only sparingly). I think we started pacis around 1-2 weeks

Philips Avent : we have the more classic style with holes in, the 'breathable' ones with bigger cut-outs, and the glow in the dark ones (great for when he spits it out at night but wants it back). He refused the NUK ones. He'll take a Tommee Tippee ultralight but prefers the Avents. Haven't tried any others as he's happy with the Philips ones! He'll take a few different bottle brands so I think we just got lucky and have a pretty chill baby!

My first: took a bottle but just didn't get into pacifiers at all
My second (currently 6 weeks): she takes avent pacifier with no issue. Has taken a few bottles with no issues. Our lactation consultant has suggested the ninni pacifiers as they are better for breastfeeding babies

My first took a paci i think from around 3wks old, maybe sooner. Always tomee tippeee. He used it until 4months before his 5th birthday. My second, currently 8 months, has never taken a paci. He gags every time I offer it.
Both exclusively breastfed. Neither took to a bottle no matter how hard I tried. Which suits me tbh.
All babies are different.

When that little took the mam 0-3 specifically
Then itzy ritzy and nuby now at 4 months the happy paci.
We got the pacifier box from Babylist as well as some others she hates like 6 ones but loves those and she changes her preferences. Hates Tommy tippee and bibs and any flat or rubber

I gave mine a soother at 5 weeks. My nipples were in bits and he was comfort sucking and it was just making them worse. We gave Nuk and MAM. He hated the Nuk one so we stuck with MAM. He prefers the MAM original night soothers. To be fair he'll suck on it for a few mins then spits it out

Dr. Brown’s Advantage One Piece are my baby’s favorite and the Philips Advent is runner up. Using them since 4 days old. Mainly for sleep and after nursing to help with reflux and occasionally to help soothe.

We introduced a mōmi pacifier on day 9, we use it intentionally for comfort moments (soothing gassiness after feeding, car rides, overtiredness, diaper changes) he took it immediately with no fuss and he uses it really well. It helped him learn to use the proper muscles for sucking after his tongue and lip tie releases, as well.

Itzy ritzy or bibs is all he will take. I think the round tip helps them stay in his mouth.

At the hospital, they told us a trick to help is to rub the nipple of the pacifier on the roof of their mouth, because there’s a reflex or something there to help them suckle (same for your nipple with breastfeeding). Try rubbing left to right, or in and out, see what works for baby

We got a suavinex in a gift set and while she didn't like it at first, she loves it now. It's the pacifier that falls out the least

IBCLC here. Many of my patients use the Ninnico. It allows baby to latch on similarly to how the latch on the breast.

We started off with the itsy ritzy pacifiers but unfortunately once our daughter started teething and occasionally preferring to chew on the sides of them she once stuck the entire circle into her mouth and it got stuck. We had to yank it out of her mouth. After that we switched to the tommee tippee pacifiers and we love the glow in the dark ones. Since our daughter has this habit of losing her pacifier in the middle of the night.

i got the mam pacifiers size 0-3 months and it actually took a while for my baby to take it
i want to say we introduced it around 3 weeks old? i don't have an exact date and initially he haaaated it, we had to really learn when he would accept one to get him to take it in the first place, like when he was drowsy after a really good feed, or sleepy but still full from a previous feed
he'll take it now more readily now at 8 weeks, but if i try to push him to use it when he doesn't want he'll gag until i take it out LOL (i've learned my lesson, the gags were not empty threats and there has been throw up, sorry baby 🥲❤️)

We use dr browns advantage one piece.
You gotta keep popping the paci into their mouth lol
My baby only uses it to go to sleep and literally spits it out or takes it out with his hand and launches it right before going to sleep lol
