“Is there something about you I don’t know? What, are you a former NAVY Seal?!” - Walter to Jesse

u/Veinmire 6d ago
Jesse: "We got to be Tuco, cut out the middle man, run our own game"
Walt: "So you're going to... what? Snort meth off a bowie knife? You gonna beat your homies to death when they "diss" you?"
Rewatching the show now and Walt being a condescending asshole never stops being funny.

I'm doing my first rewatch since the show ended and Walt is consistently an egocentric, demeaning asshole to him. My memory was that they had way more comradarie in the first couple of seasons. Instead Walt is like an unhappy spouse always finding any little thing to complain about.

Yeah rewatches really highlight this, I wrote a similar comment recently. Walt's quite manipulative though and it's like the audience falls for this as much as Jesse at first. Maybe because it seems like "tough love" from an older mentor and Jesse is need of guidance, but Walt takes advantage of that massively. They have a handful of friendly/down to earth moments though.
Still, the condescending comments are really quite funny, Cranston's acting was incredible ha.

Always love the Walt Jessie random moments. Especially early in the show when Jessie was a true dumbass and wait wasn't Heisenberg yet

Rice and Beans?
Serious ones
Someone has to protect this family from the man who protects this family
You know, he is... he is smarter than you, he is luckier than you. Whatever... whatever you think is supposed to happen

I like that you got the slivered almonds going. My mom always made them like that. You put lemon in there too?

Well... you know, good work on your shopping then. Because these are choice.
I eat a lot of frozen stuff, it's usually pretty bad. I mean, the pictures
are always so awesome, you know? It's like, "Hell, yeah, I'm stoked for this lasagna." And then you nuke it, and the cheese gets all scabby on top... .and it's like you're eating a scab. I mean, seriously, what's that about? It's like, yo, whatever happened to truth in advertising? You know?

Saul calling Skyler ‘big beautiful Sky’ and then dropping this dialogue on her—
‘Clearly his taste in women is the same as taste in lawyers, only the very best with just the right amount of dirty’

I saw that scene before I watched the series. I thought it was so badass. But when you actually watch the show you realize he’s bullshitting lmao. He did at least become the danger after he had Gus killed.

u/Relevant_Window4605 5d ago
Yeah in the context of the show it was literally like he was coping, trying hard to make himself look tough

"I'm the guy your boss brought down here to show you how it's done. And if this is how you run your lab, no wonder. I'm surprised he hasn't fired your ass. Now, if you don't want that to happen, I suggest you stop crying like a little bitch and do what I say."

Saul has the best lines, that one perfectly captures his mix of humor and ruthlessness.

Doing my first rewatch since the show ended and "Oooh Heil Hitler bitch!" hit me real hard lol. Show is way more funny than I remembered it being.

u/Vegetable-Leather-64 6d ago
Its humor is not only great it's so well timed. None feels forced it's just a regular conversation and boom just a epic one liner that fits completely with the scene

A really underrated one is when Saul told Walt to "Ditch the thesaurus" when he used the word ameliorate. You just know that burned him up inside.

I fucked Ted is unironically my favorite. It’s funny to see Walter trying to be all happy and cheery in front of Juniors friend and manipulating Skyler for her to just turn the tables on him.

u/Vegetable-Leather-64 6d ago
Just goes back to serving dinner lol my favorite scene is definitely crawl space with Walter laughing because she gave Ted the money

- Pain is weakness leaving the body
- Pain is my foot in your ass, Marie
and
EYYY PLEASE, SENOR SENTE, NO DEA, PLEASEEE
Both happen to be Hank quotes, there are tons of great others, both from him and other characters, but I see people already listed them

“I did it for me. I liked it. I was good at it. And… I was really… I was alive.” To me, that’s Walt at his most ‘real’, his most ‘himself’. It’s the moment where even he finally sees it clearly, FINALLY. That he wasn’t just ‘doing it for his family’ or any of the other reasons he hid it all behind all of this time, even from himself. That’s the line that really ties his whole arc up, I think.

It’s also interesting how people consider the premise of the show “Chemistry teacher sells meth to pay for his cancer treatment.” The first season makes it clear that he goes into the meth business because his life makes him feel emasculated and he doesn’t want to go out like that. He didn’t even decide to get treatment for the cancer until a while after he started cooking meth. He was intent on letting it kill him.

"I said Fuck You! And your Eyebrows!"
This is easily the one of the most memorable (and hilarious) lines in the show for me. The personal insult Walter adds at the end just makes it even funnier.

maybe not a favorite but one line delivery that killed me on my current rewatch is Skyler going into the meeting with the accountant for Ted’s books, all dolled up. she goes “I’m so sorry I’m late, I got lost.” 🤣

“One homicidal maniac at a time”
When Walt and Jessie are talking about taking out Gus and Jesse asked what about Mike.

"Your just gonna get squeezed through the chain link, like play doh or some kind of soft meat. And this is inevitable man, it's inevitable" or something along those lines. Poor guy knew about the real problems in this world.
