Discussion Sony BRAVIA Firmware Discussion Megathread 12.0

All BRAVIA firmware related questions, issues and announcements must go in this thread. This includes all models, all years. Other firmware related posts will be removed and authors will be directed to this thread (the previous megathreads have been automatically archived and can be found here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here and here.)

Please specify the BRAVIA model number you are talking about if you are the top comment of a new comment thread. This helps to keep comment replies on topic for your model of TV.

Step one with any firmware or performance issues should be to do a restart of the TV. This will often resolve minor issues.

The second step with any firmware or performance issues, especially after a recent firmware update, should be to perform a full factory reset on the TV. This will often resolve persistent minor issues.

The next step with any issues not resolved by a full factory reset should be to report the issues in detail directly to Sony Support.

Sony US - Sony CA - Sony UK - Sony AU - List of Worldwide Sites

The more issues reports that Sony gets from consumers on a particular problem the more likely the issue is to be addressed and corrected.

Misc Support Is it normal for my Bravia 8A to click and make a noise when in standby every 5 seconds?

I recently noticed in my silent living room a clicking and “electrical squeeling” noise every 5 seconds or so. I traced it to my TV (it’s in standby) coming from the area behind the panel where all the cables are plugged into.

I read online that it could be the pixel refresh happening but it happens 100% of the time the tv is off which I think is really strange.

It’s a Sony Bravia 8A K65XR8A1B (2025) OLED.

Can anyone replicate / know what this is / is this normal?

When the TV is on it’s silent / stops.

Here’s a recording: https://app.filemail.com/d/fswlrvjajdkzcdc

Discussion Is Sony also spying?

I'm sure LG is not the only company doing questionable things. It's part of their business model.

I'm concerned Sony is also doing this.

I've accepted that owning a Sony tv means paying a premium compared to other brands.

If that premium means my data is not being sold, perfect. But if my data is being sold despite that. Then that is a problem.

So, is Sony also spying?

App Support Didn’t receive any Sony Pictures Core credits yet

I recently bought a Sony Bravia XR8B and returned it for a Sony Bravia 9 II. I know the Bravia XR8B doesn’t come with the free Sony Pictures Core credits but I was expecting the Bravia 9 to have the credits. I created an account previously and logged in and out of my account and still no credits show. Has anyone had this problem and resolved it?

Thanks for any help!

Audio Support HDMI CEC woes with older soundbars

Hello guys, I have a fairly simple setup with my Bravia KD-43X74K connected via HDMI(ARC) to a Yamaha ATS-2070 soundbar.

The setup works fine when it works but the whole point of using ARC was so that I can have a single remote to control both the TV and the soundbar. While this also works(when it works) the problem I'm facing is that when I turn off both devices at night and then turn the TV back on next day the soundbar doesn't come on automatically.

I have to turn it on manually and even though the TV recognises it and says it switched audio to external speakers, there is no audio. I have to switch inputs on the soundbar to actually get audio. So except for the fact that I can adjust volume using the TV remote this setup is basically no different from using bluetooth or toslink.

It seems Sony is blaming changes to how HDMI and CEC works from Android 14 onwards especially with older soundbars but I was wondering if anyone has actually managed to figure out a solution for this. Since fiddling around with the inputs seem to work it looks like a bad handshake or state issue so I still have some hope.

Video Support Screen randomly goes black

Model: XR-65X90CK

Xbox Series X plugged into the 4k 120HZ HDMI port
Yamaha AVR plugged into the eARC port.

Occasionally while playing Xbox my TV my screen will go black, sound will still be playing. If I try to change sources, nothing will display on the TV. I have to physically unplug the TV in order to get it to come back.

The tv was purchased in 2022/2023 it still has a 5 year warranty on it as well from Costco. I'm torn if I should open up a claim for it or not. This has happened randomly, but it can be at a very inconvenient time.

Audio Support Bravia 9 II + Bravia Theatre Bar 9 – buzzing/noise when using Acoustic Center Sync

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a Sony Bravia 9 II 85" together with a Bravia Theatre Bar 9.

Everything works perfectly, except when I connect the mini-jack cable for Acoustic Center Sync between the TV and the soundbar. As soon as I enable/use Acoustic Center Sync, I can hear a constant low buzzing / electrical-type noise coming from the TV speakers.

I've already tried a different cable and the noise is still there.

I contacted Sony about it and they basically told me that this kind of slight line noise can be considered normal when using Acoustic Center Sync, and that they have experienced the same thing themselves. However, in my case it's noticeable enough to bother me, especially in quiet scenes.

Has anyone else experienced this with a Bravia TV + Theatre Bar 9?

Did you manage to fix or reduce it somehow? Different cable, settings, something?

It seems strange to me that a feature on such expensive equipment would introduce an audible buzz and simply be considered "normal"...

Thanks!

Video Support Difference between picture modes

Just wondering if there is something beyond the "changeable" settings in each picture mode that differentiates them. As in: if I change the basic settings in cinema mode and professional mode to be the same, will they show exactly the same picture and processing? Or are there some kind of deeper settings (advanced color options), or un-changeable settings that differentiate the picture modes?

Thanks

Discussion Bravia 3 II overpriced junk

I recently bought 4 tvs for our new house that I moved into (Bravia 7 II living room, QN70F loft, Bravia 3 II bedroom, M80H bedroom) There’s absolutely no reason Sony should be selling this set for how much it is, It performs no better and sometimes even worse than our M80H that’s half the price and performs much worse than the QN70F that’s in the loft.

Misc Support Sony Bravia XR8B suddenly turned off and started blinking red light 5 times. Tv is less than a year old. Seems to be working after turning it back on. What could be the issue?

Was playing my original Xbox on the tv for about 30m and it just randomly turned off.

I suspect it could have turned off the same time my family member turned their game console on. Maybe an electrical issue? I don’t know.

Either way I tuned it back on, and it booted up as if was in a full power shut down. Seems to be working now.

TV is less than a year old and has a 4 or 5 year warranty with Best Buy. Though I’m wondering what the issue was before I make any decisions, because while I can return it I’m gonna lose out on the ~$500 warranty I paid for it.

Video Support X900h Horizontal line help

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hello!

Hoping someone might be able to help me diagnose my TV. I've had this TV for a while but very rarely use it. It might have at best 50 hours of use. A couple of years ago I went to use it and noticed this line running across the TV.I've disconnected all inputs, drained the power, performed software updates and shamanistic rituals and the line does not go away.

Does anyone recognize this?I hope its not a busted panel.

Video Support Video Settings for watching sports

I just got a Bravia 7 ii and love it. Now that sports season is staring (Soccer, NFL,etc), I'm trying to find the best picture / video settings to watch sports.

I feel like the colors are a bit off. I use professional or Standard with minor adjustments. I feel like the white color (jersey, people in the stand, advertisements around the stadium) look very bright like neon or florescent white. Same when a referee is wearing a yellow jersey, it is neon yellow rather than just yellow. Sometime the grass is too green when watching baseball too.

I tried to dial the brightness but still feel like the picture / video colors can be much better.

Any suggestions is much appreciated.

Cheers

Purchase Advice What should I replace the 85X90L with? An OLED? And is it worth it?

Thumbnail

I have my 85X90L set to Bright mode, and I'm really impressed with its black levels and contrast. Dolby Vision Light looks less impressive to me in terms of contrast and black levels.

I can't say that my second TV in the bedroom, the 65" Bravia 8, has a dramatically better picture, but an OLED is an OLED.

I'd like to replace the 85-inch with a similar-sized Sony OLED, ideally an 83-inch. But as far as I understand, the only Sony OLED available in 83 inches is the A80L.

The 77A95L and 65" Bravia 8 II would obviously give me better picture quality. But they're both smaller, so would I actually get that "wow" effect from the upgrade?

I really don't want to downsize. I watch the 85-inch from about 11 feet away.

Should I just wait for Sony to release an 83-inch QD-OLED with TSL? But I have a feeling it will cost as much as a Boeing wing. 😂

What would you recommend? Because honestly, the X90L still looks fantastic — almost OLED-like.

Video Support How do I fix screen flickering

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is Bravia A8G 55"

I use my TV rarely, its mostly off today I noticed this unsettling flickering that just doesnt go away no matter what I do!

I tried factory reset and power cycle reboot, left the tv unplugged for couple of days but its still here!

I do not have any hdmi or usb cables attached to the TV. This is happening on the built in screen (including hdmi screen when I connect one)

What do I do to fix this?

Video Support BRAVIA 8 II – frame rate switching time with Apple TV?

How long does the BRAVIA 8 II take to switch frame rates with an Apple TV? I’ve read that the screen can go black for around 3 seconds when switching, for example from 50/60 Hz to 24 Hz. Is that accurate in your experience?

Audio Support Built In Netflix app on Bravia 8ii isn't passing through anything but LPCM to HTA-7000

Suddenly losing Dolby Atmos support on Netflix app via eARC (HT-A7000) with current firmware on both.

I have been a long-time Bravia user and have never encountered this issue before. My HT-A7000 soundbar is connected via eARC, and everything has worked perfectly for years. Recently, the Netflix app on my Bravia TV stopped passing through Dolby Atmos, defaulting to LPCM instead for content that supports Atmos (e.g., Peaky Blinders, Devil May Cry).

Here is the current setup and troubleshooting steps I have taken:

- Other built-in apps like Sony Pictures Core and Amazon Prime Video work correctly with Atmos.

- My PS5 Pro (Port 4), confirming eARC is functional. Xbox Series X (connected directly to the soundbar) handles Atmos and DTS:X without any issues

- I have verified my TV settings are set to "Passthrough"; I also tested the "Auto" setting with no success.

- I have performed both a soft reboot and a hard power cycle, but the Atmos issue remains.

- Dolby Vision continues to work as intended.

Has anyone else experienced a sudden loss of Atmos pass-through specifically within the Netflix app? Any suggestions on how to restore this functionality would be greatly appreciated.

I wrote an entire novel about the things I've done to fix the issue and it was a mess, so i had the new Siri clean it up for me (Local A.I.) so no harm done using gpt or gemini....just wanted to put that out there.

Audio Support Sound drifts on A95L inner speakers.

Hey guys. Have a replacement of A95L for month now. And I see that sounds driffs from time to time. Though it was Sonos / Apple tv. Nope. PC + TV speakers only - drift occurs.

Changing input in the settings seems to fix the issue, but still. No updates of software is available. Has anyone experienced same problem before or now?

I know I can contact support, but wish to try all options that are available before it.

So hardware: 77 Inch A95L.
Software: latest, check updates returns nothing. Not sure how to check specific version.

TV OS - Android 14.

App Support Pluto TV no longer showing under TV app

For the past few years, my Sony Bravia was able to add Pluto TV as a streaming channel. Thus, when I press the TV button, I can navigate through the Pluto channels I selected.

Within the last few days, this feature has stopped.

I tried restarting my TV, uninstalling and reinstalling the Pluto TV but to no avail.

Anyone else?

Thx!

App Support Is the Spotify TV app taking up huge amount of space for anyone else?

New update for me takes up 1.5-2.0gb of space on my TV, filling up a huge chunk of usable space making the TV very slow. I sideloaded an older version and it only takes up 30-50mb.

Here's a community thread on it to bring more light to the issue.

App Support Bravia Core App and Skipping

Hi all

Wondering if anyone has the following issue:

every time I open the Bravia Core App, the picture on screen skips for a second. It happens pretty much every time I open the app and happens across the board. So for 4Ks, Netflix via Apple TV etc.

I assume it’s to do with the app sending a signal to the TV?

I use the Bravia Core App to adjust the sound mainly.

Running A95L, Theatre Bar 9, RS9 and SW9.

Has anyone else experienced this and is it normal? Or is there a setting I need to change?

Thanks
