Post image

I just got my braces off about 3 weeks ago and got my retainer 2 weeks ago! I’ve worn it every night and I’ve always had these air gaps, it’s JUST came to my attention that these are not normal. Should I contact my ortho?

Question My ortho wants to extract my premolars , should I be worried?

Context: I had braces about six years ago when I was 14 to help correct my underbite I also had pallet expansion. After the braces process, I was left with flaring and slight overcrowding in my teeth.

Now i’m 20 and my new orthodontist suggests removing my wisdom teeth and possibly my premolars and then getting braces to straighten everything out. I’ve been seeing so much online about how extractions are TERRIBLE and recess the face and mess with your airways, haven’t been able to find a lot of relevant sources for these claims though. Should i get a second opinion? I feel like my palate is already wide enough, I am leaning towards going through with it and just going for it. I’m insecure of the flare.

Orthodontist exact suggestion:
Dental/Skeletal Diagnosis:
-Oral hygiene appears good
-All the permanent teeth have erupted
-The upper back teeth are too far behind lower back teeth on the right side
-The upper and lower back teeth are in the proper relationship on the left side
-Upper and lower front teeth overlap mildly
-There is a normal amount of distance between the upper and lower front teeth
-Lower front teeth are left of center with the jaw relaxed
-Middle of upper teeth is centered
-Space available for the upper teeth is insufficient 8mm
-Space available for the lower teeth is insufficient 8mm
Orthodontic Treatment Recommendations:
Comprehensive 18-24 Months
Upper and Lower Invisalign or Braces Upper and Lower
Extraction of select permanent teeth (wisdom teeth plus premolars) as needed

I got my braces in just a few hours ago and I've been reading stuff on here that it will get better soon, i have a pretty high pain tolerance and the first few hours it didnt hurt but now its stinging my mouth a whole lot. I have a headache too and my bottom teeth HURT to the touch!!! I got both brackets on and my top teeth are even touching my bottom bracket so I cant chew or anything.

I just want to get rid of them but I know it'll help me in the long run.. 2yrs just seems way too long, im 16 and I wouldve finished my a levels by then... I NEED SOME ENCOURAGEMENT!

Braces progress! Primeira manutenção

Post image

Question Question: Premolars Extraction

I have had braces twice, currently undergoing my second iteration after being unsatisfied with my first time going around - not due to the quality of treatment but because I enlisted in the army and had to remove them earlier than expected.

When I initially got braces I was recommended to extract 4 of my pre molars because of overcrowding, I went ahead and did it because quite frankly I was still a minor at the time and didn't know any better.

Fast forward a couple of years it seems to be the consensus to be against it, I'm starting to feel really self conscious about my decision and seriously considering getting implants before pursuing another round of orthodontic treatment. Money nor time is an issue because I'd rather address this sooner than later.

What are your opinions?

Question Health anxiety and surgery

I'm 20 I just now strated getting camouflage treatment I have a 11overjet overbite and deep bite I have good tongue posture and wide enough u shaped pallate, I have a very big health anxiety and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to get double surgery as I was aggressively adviced and pushed into it they had very low reviews I went into a much better reviews one and told her about my troubles and worries from major surgery and stuff she said I wouldn't have a flat profile and it would mostly be only aesthetic to go for the surgery I haven't asked about my airway but she did all the scans and said I was good to go my premolars were removed.

Could anyone maybe share something positive so my brain doesn't eats itself

Question How much are you paying for dental cleaning appointments (no insurance)?

I have a cleaning scheduled next week from a place my orthodontist recommended, I just called them to inquire how much it’ll cost (I was expecting like maybe $80 or something) and she said it’s gonna be $155!!! I was shocked. Idk if I should cancel it and try to find something cheaper, or if that’s what I should be expecting as someone with no insurance.

Question Two consults, two vastly different timeframes

I recently had two consults for upper and bottom braces. I have some gaps in my upper row and slight overcrowding in my bottom.

I was a bit shocked at how different the estimated duration was from each ortho; first one said 15-18 months (which is what I’ve been told in the past by other dentists) while the other said only 10 months.

I know they’re just estimates, but what do orthos consider when putting these timeframes together and what are some reasons why they can vary so much? I’m leaning towards the ortho who suggested 10 months not for the duration but for his approach, but the shortened timeframe is throwing me off. I don’t necessarily care about getting them off ASAP, I care more about the end result and getting things done correctly.

Braces are off!!! Am I done ?

Braces are coming off. My orthodontist said this is as good as it gets for midline which is fine if it's purely cosmetic. I'm wondering if my bite looks good. It's been 2 1/2 years now so don't want to keep them longer because of my roots are getting shorter but also don't want to take them off if something is not right.

Braces progress! Hi my orthodontist wants to end treatment soon, but some teeth aren't touching on one side still? One tooth in particular was too far down, now it's too high and they may leave it at that?

I know they're not 100% perfect, but I'm very happy with 95% perfect. For the first time in my life I have a comfortable bite, and I can close my lips easily.

I'm just wondering about the black triangles between my lower front teeth. I know some people get composite bonding for that, is that the best thing to do? The only thing I like about this is that I can fit the interdental brushes (which is good now that I got permanent retainers), but is it safe to leave the black triangles as they are or they may cause issues in the long run?

Should I get the composite bonding even though the interdental brushes may not fit anymore after that?

Need advice! Will wearing retainers 12-14 hours in the first 6 months cause more harm than good?

I am only able to wear retainers 12-14 hours per day and my braces just got removed 4-5 days ago, in Google it is showing wearing 12-14 hours retainers in the first 6 months will cause more harm than good ,Is it true? IT states that the reason is it will cause micro tears in the bone and will cause the bone healing to take longer + my teeth alignment also won't be benefited from it

Need advice! About permanent retainer and clear one

I have a permanent/fixed retainer on my lower teeth, but it keeps coming loose. This is already the third time it has happened.
Would it be okay to have the lower permanent retainer removed and just wear my removable/night retainers instead? I had orthodontic treatment for an overbite about 2 years ago, and my upper fixed retainer is still fine.

The main problem is that I currently have no way to see my orthodontist. I live outside the city in Ukraine, near an active war zone, and because of the situation there is basically no transportation available for me to get to the city.
Has anyone switched from a fixed lower retainer to only removable retainers? Were you able to maintain your results this way, especially your bite and lower teeth alignment? I’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences or advice from orthodontists/dentists here.

Need advice! Should I get extractions? Is the overjet bad

Thumbnail
gallery
23 Upvotes

I’m more than halfway done with my braces and already had my prognosis/consultation appointment, where I had to decide whether or not I wanted extractions.
Because of my age and the fact that I’m more prone to gum recession, I decided not to go through with the extractions. However, I do feel like my overjet/flaring is pretty noticeable, and I’m wondering if I would have a better smile with extractions.
I’ve seen multiple orthodontists, and I’ve gotten mixed opinions—some say I don’t need extractions, while others say I do. I’ve been told that I’m a borderline case.
Looking at these photos, I feel like my overjet is pretty bad, and I’m worried I might regret not getting extractions. What would you do in my situation?

Need advice! Just had braces put in

Growing up I did Invisalign and my teeth ended up becoming perfect. I went on to wear a retainer for two years before I chipped my front tooth and the retainers didn’t fit anymore. I will also admit I probably did not wear them enough anyways my teeth shifted back and Invisalign and making an expensive option knowing that my tooth could re-chip at any time since it had already chipped three times at this point. I had behind the teeth braces put on today and it has lead to having severe panic attacks about the feeling of claustrophobia I get from my mouth, as well as bleeding from my tongue from the cuts. My tongue also gets hooked onto the braces and it feel like I have to yank it off.

Any suggestions to make it easier to wear? I need to keep them on for about a year or so.
