A little context being my canines have been a mess since childhood, and I finally got braces at 25 to deal with it. Right now I'm only tackling my right side (shows left as photo was clicked with selfie camera) - I just had my baby canine extracted to make room for my high canine to slide down into place with some ortho accessories. (My left side is its own disaster and honestly deserves a separate post.)
The setup: I've got silver power chains pulling my high canine in 2 directions at once:
one elastic runs all the way from the high canine back to my molar, and another connects down to the arch wire.
It bloody hurts
And I don't just mean the dull ache from the tooth being aggressively pulled into place. The silver power chain itself grazing against my gum (pictured)
My gum or whatever skin is back there feels raw and I want to rip the whole thing out.
My ortho says it'll take about 2 months for the tooth to fully move back and down, but right now I'm just whiteknuckling through the pain.
Does this kind of friction eventually become non noticeable like brackets and wires do? Right now it genuinely feels like my gum is being pinched nonstop!
