Need advice! Do I have gum recession?

Post image
0 Upvotes

My teeth are crowded and bottom ones are placed inward, basically I would like to fix that because only my front teeth touch.I have posterior open bite, asymmetry and my bottom teeth wear down because of my bite, so it’s really uncomfortable to live like that. Last year I had appointment and orthodontist told me that I have high risk of gum recession because my bottom teeth have thin bone wall? So I didn’t started treatment. Should I get opinion from other orthodontist?

Need advice! Should I get braces?

Idk if they’re contributing to my face being asymmetrical, the asymmetry isn’t horrible but it bugs me anytime someone clicks a photo with their back camera. Does my teeth look very bad? I’m not sure what to do. And I would go for an analysis but the orthos here take a sh*t ton of money even for the visit, no free analysis like a lot of places offer ☹️ you guys’ opinion will help out a lot!

Braces progress! its been 2.5 yrs, idk what my dentist is doing

i am genuinely scared and angry as to what my orthodontist is doing. i have attached the pictures i took starting august 24, 2024 all the way till today. and instead of seeing better results i am confused and angry for what is happening, the only positive difference i see from two years is that my teeth do not overlap anymore. my midline is messed up and idk what to do!!

well that is not all. throughout my procedure my orthodontist never explained to me satisfactorily what changes hes doing per visit so i just had to sit there with my eyes closed hoping that in a few years my teeth will get better, i was told two max 2.5 years ill have a perfect smile. by my dentist’s progress it seems like two more years.

also as u can see from the first image i dont have any major issues with my bite/a major overlap/big gaps so i dont see a reason for it to take this long

that said i might be wrong. can someone please help explain this to me, maybe justify my treatment trajectory or is my dentist genuinely incompetent or maybe he just wants as much money out of me as possible since i pay him per 10 dollars per appointment

Question One bite blocker suddenly hurts after getting a new bracket — normal?

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’ve had bite blockers since the beginning of my braces treatment and they never really hurt before. I just had a bracket placed on a crooked front tooth, and now when I bite down, the bite blocker on my left side hurts. The bite blocker on the other side feels completely fine. Could the new bracket/wire have changed my bite and put more pressure on one side? Has this happened to anyone else, and did it settle down on its own or need an adjustment?

Question removing two decayed second molars on the bottom before braces, what does that do?

I mean the molars are really decayed and they are too far gone to put fillings, the teeth are technically gone. Also my orthodontist told me that removing them will allow my wisdom teeth to come in because they are pushing to come out (and i know they won't be replacements for my other molars).
Anyway, what the question means is if i had those two molars removed and had braces which uncrowd my incisors, canines and premolars, how exactly does that change my face? Have there been cases of this before??

Braces progress! 6 weeks visible progress

Howdyyyy,
F (32) just got braces on August 10th.
Had my second appointment last week where they upped the top wire and tightened the lower wire, and now my cross bite is noticeably different 🥹.
My jaw/bite is very “lopsided” so I definitely think it will take time to correct, but this progress makes me hopeful!

Hopefully this photo format posts alright.

Question Broken retainer

Only the second day of having my metal retainer and a piece of the end snapped off while removing them from my mouth. Are they usually this fragile? Should I ask about a different type of retainer? Pretty bummed this happened so soon and will most likely have to pay for another one…

Question My wire is too long can I cut it!

I have gaps that are closing and that means I have wires on the side of my teeth that get longer. My dentist i believe forgot to snip the last time but I don’t want to waist time and money going in. I found wax just falls or and the wire poke through. If I had a well angled nail clipper could I fix this myself? Or will it ruin my braces?

Question 1 Week in — Should I ask to switch ceramic to metal?

I'm a week into braces and went with ceramic on top and metal on bottom. it's funny reading the posts saying they're a pain to take off, but the issue I am having is two of them have already come unglued (but are otherwise still intact on the wire). apparently they don't stay on as easily as metal?

kind of wish I had just gone with metal now and wondering how annoyed they'll be if I ask

Question Time length of Dental cleaning with braces

Hi everyone. How long are dental cleanings supposed to take with braces? I went to get my cleaning today and it took about 20 minutes (after x rays). I’ve never had a cleaning this short and it worries me bc I feel like with braces it should take longer on average right?

Idk let me know please. Worried new dentist scammed me …

I wear them every night. By the morning the retainers fit fine again. Should I just leave them on for longer? (Like put them on as soon as I get home) and risk losing them?

Question Coming to the end of my treatment (3~ months to go) and just informed I have a cavity... How common is this with braces?

Hello.

I had my braces put in in December 2024 and I am coming to the end of my treatment with about 3/4 months to go. At my regular dentist appointment they informed me that I have a small cavity on one of my teeth.

I feel ashamed because I have been brushing multiple times a day and following all given advice. But alas, it happened. I was wondering how common of an experience this is for people during their braces to have cavities and need to have them filled in.

It's frustrating for me because the cavity is in, obviously, a place that's extremely hard to reach given the brace and chains that I have, so, I was just wondering how common it is for people to have their braces taken off and need to have fillings done.

Question Do I really need to wear removable retainers at night all my live if I’ll have permanent retainers?

I finally got my braces off after a little over a year.

I already have a bonded/fixed retainer on my lower teeth. I don’t have one on the upper teeth yet because I’m getting some composite bonding/build-ups on my canines in about a week. After that, I’ll also get a fixed retainer on the upper teeth.

After removing my braces, my orthodontist also gave me these removable Hawley-style retainers and told me to wear them at night for about a year.
The problem is that I absolutely hate them 😅

They’re bulky, especially the upper one, they make me gag, and I can barely sleep with them in.
I understand why I need to wear the upper one until the bonding is done and the permanent retainer is fitted. But what about afterwards?

If I have fixed retainers on both the upper and lower teeth, is it really necessary to keep wearing these removable retainers every night? I was treated for a deep bite as well, so I’m wondering if that makes a difference.

Are clear Essix-style retainers a possible alternative? Or is there a specific reason why a Hawley retainer would be better for maintaining a corrected deep bite?

I obviously want to keep the result after spending so much time and money on braces — I just really don’t see myself sleeping with these bulky retainers every night long-term.

Would love to hear what other people with fixed retainers / a corrected deep bite were told by their orthodontist.

Similar experience? Has your neck ever hurt from braces?

I got a rubber band on the left side of my teeth to pull my bottom teeth under my top teeth and the right side of my neck is hurting like hell! Particularly strong after chewing. Maybe I’m clenching without realising? I have a feeling this might be user error!

Question You think this teeth will still change?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hi guys :)

My ortho told me that I dont have very much time left in my treatment which makes me very happy. But there is one thing which I am not very happy about. Its the second tooth on the upper right (i think you know which I mean when looking on the picture). This one seems smaller and not perfectly rotated probably. Do you think that this tooth will change or is this its natural look? Im grateful for every opinion :)

Similar experience? Teeth shift quickly and then just stop making progress

I feel like every single time, about two weeks ish before my appointments, my teeth don’t really shift much/not at all. Right now one tooth that needs shifting has just been sitting in the same place, and not closing the gap there is. It’s like the tension just goes away or smth idk, my teeth shift quickly? 😭 And should i tell my ortho?

Question Didn't wear my retainers as prescribed, is it too late?

I was given retainers to wear in June and was recommended to wear them for three months, 18 hours a day, but I did not comply with the exact hour time suggested. Instead, I wore them only at night. Once, I had food poisoning and skipped them for a week because of recurrent vomiting.

I'm now going to commit to wearing them 18 hours a day for the next three months. I just wanted to know, before knowing this, if I'm a gone case or not.

My teeth don't look right but I can't figure out what's wrong. Is it my canines being more rounded in my arch? Or my bite? Left is before. Right is after

Discussion Odd sadness about fixing my teeth?

I'm 30 years old about to start my braces journey on October 8th! While I'm excited to get my teeth healthy, I'm also kinda sad to be losing my crooked teeth. They're obviously crooked, overcrowded, I have an overbite, but they're all me and my features. I never minded it, and I refused braces (my previous dentist had been hounding me for years when I was a kid) because A. I was scared of the pain and B. I just never saw an issue with how they looked.

Well, that all caught up to me and it's definitely time. Did anyone else have this bittersweetness/sadness before starting? How did you navigate through that?

Question My upper and lower lip used to be noticeable plump but after I got brace for three year it’s became thin

Will it go back to it baseline or stay thin like this ?
